What causes you the most anxiety while on the water under power?

One night my buddy and I were partying in Annapolis docked at ego ally… we ended up staying till dark and had a transient slip at your marina. In Kent narrows…. Cross the bay on plane with a bad moon…. I didn’t do that again.

For this reason, I hold the dinghy down to the swim platform with turnbuckles and quick release snap shackles with a T handle on it. I can have the dinghy released from the swim platform in about 20 seconds with no tools.

I used to run at night often, long distances sometimes. Then one time during the daylight I got tangled in a fish net. I got to thinking, what if that happened at night, I wouldn't want to be going under in the dark to cut it loose, that was the end of my night running.

I bought the quick release shackles last year but never got around to the turn buckles…. I notice you don’t have lock nuts on the turnbuckles….. do they not loosen up ?…. Can you tighten them up enough by hand

I have to get rid of my rachet straps this season

I have a stainless adjustable wrench I use to put the last few turns on the bow turnbuckle. Since I took those picks I put lock nuts on the 2 stern ones so I don’t have to adjust them every time I put them on. Slide the dingy Fwd a few inches attached the 2 stern ones then slide it back and put the bow on and tighten. I can have it strapped down in under a minute. The bow turnbuckle doesn’t loosen without a lock nut.

some time ago i blew a cooling hose after the impeller pump which turned my engine into a big waterpump sucking water in and then discharging it into the engine bay .

The engine did not overheat and i finally noticed after i saw some steam out of the air intakes as well a strange noise because the pulleys started to run in water . At this moment i had already a massive amount of water in the engine bay and the stern sat low .
I shut off the engine and started to pump out with the bilge pump . ( only manual switch on that boat )

Since that i have fear to take on water

Hence the BOREL alarms on my boat, which include additional LOUD alarm for the high water level bilge pump switch.

ALso have a 3 gang bilge pump counter, AND Simply Safe water sensors (for when I'm away) and I position one of the simplysafe cameras on that bilge pump counter.

I'm running for the second place A.R. position behind Tom Mott :cool:

Hitting submerged stuff....logs, trees, etc, at night the channel markers can come out of nowhere and other boaters especially bass boats at night flying across the water with their docking lights on and you know they can see you at all.

BTW that's a pretty cool knife linked above. I had to take a swim when I got tangled up in milfoil this year. Both outdrives could barely turn and I was glad to have a serrated steak knife on board to cut it off from around the props.
