Water Stains in Headliner

Wally world carries an Oxi clean product in the RV section that works great. I am traveling now and cannot check the label until Tuesday. Just spray it on wait overnight the stain is gone

Been there done that. Oxy clean, meguires upholstry cleaner with oxy clean, 3m carpet and upholstry cleaner, spot shot, everything in the cupboard we had for dog stains.
Just passin along what worked for me me after countless products. Finally found one that made a difference. I think mine were tough because the PO let things get out of hand. My stains were years old I'm thinking.
Always good to try the all though.

An update on the browning treatment.I sprayed the crap out of the entire forward headliner with it,wear eye, hand, and breathing protection.I left it overnight then resprayed it again the next day not quite as heavily.I left it to dry for a week then rented an extractor carpet cleaner from home depot for 4 hrs and used some rug doctor upholstery cleaner to go over the entire headliner(i also did a few spots near a forward hatch and wanted to clean the whole thing anyway).I then ran a small fan with hatches open for a week on low to help dry it out.I also cleaned the carpet the same day in the same 4 hours. It came out very nice, there are a few residue spots i vacumed up after it dried and i had to clean the hatches and forward mirror afterward. The wife was surprised at how nice it worked.I did go in and clean the anchor locker a month later only to have water seep through the bulkhead at the mirror,i immediatly shopvaced these spots, the next week there are white residue areas there and will have to vacume them again. All in all i would say it worked.Glen

I still have to try it. it sounds like you had good results I hope I have the same.

I only used half a gallon, and an industrial trigger sprayer from ace hardware,i would use a small garden sprayer if i did it again.

How is the browning treatment working? I tried to spray some on today in one spot. I need to clean the whole boat out to do this. The stuff get's all over everything. Curious if the stuff is working and staying looking good.

I seem to still have a small leak somewhere, the result is white residue coming through the fabric where the water decides to exit the foam backing.I vacumed it today and the residue pretty much disappeared.I need a weekend without other plans and weather besides rain or extreme heat to re seal a few screws in the windshield and where the center vent window actuator is mounted to the dash.

The hatch on my pachanga 27 started leaking and I have the nasty browning around the hatch too. I hope to be able to get rid of the brown stains and address the leaking hatch.

Regarding the the hatch leak. My plan is to remove all the screws on the top side and clean the decking and underside of the hatch trim. Than build up a layer of silicone between the hatch and the deck so the silicone can act as a gasket and then re-install the hatch trim over the silicone. Maybe use very fine shims in each corner so the hatch doesn't tighten too much squeezeing all the silicone out? Also assuming it must be "flexible" caulking.

We bought our boat at the end of the season last year & the interior was in really rough shape, water & mildew stains everywhere inside the cabin. We immediately had it professionally steam cleaned with very poor results not to mention is cost a small fortune. Anyone have any tried & true suggestions on how to make these stains disappear? We have tried oxyclean & clorox solutions which helped somewhat with the mildew but not the water stains. We have no visible signs of leaks so I'm not sure how the water stains got there, however this boat did come from the Jersey coast & could have been through a hurricane.

I had good results with West Marine mildue remover (spray bottle). It was a small area to deal with. Probably a 6 sq inch area, but it worked well.

Browning treatment! only used it on one small spot last summer, it did work.

I used Tilex on the fabric material. Be careful, it has bleach in it, and if spatters will lighten "other areas". Spray directly, use a brush to work it on, and the stains disappear. Not good for vinyl headliner.

This video shows how to remove the stains from the headliner
50/50 mix of bleach and water. It doesn't hurt the underlying adhesive

Siriussr, question for you... I noticed you "joined" CSR 2-1/2 years ago, but didn't post until today - and then it was with a youtube video into 3 old posts. It's as if you purposefully searched those threads out to post the video. Is this your video? Do you make money on these? I'm often hesitant to click on videos in posts like this as I wonder if they aren't some type of spam. It's normally a good idea, when first posting, to introduce yourself. Just a friendly tip!

Hi Lazy Daze, yes, this is my video. I don't make any money on these. I joined a few years ago while looking for our first boat, and then used these threads to help figure out how to remove the stains on our headliner after we got it. From all the threads I read there was really no answer, or the answer required a lot of work and special cleaners. When I figured out this method was so easy in comparison, I thought it might be good to contribute to those threads I used to try and find my answers.

I apologize for not going through the normal routine of introducing myself. With that:

Hi, I'm Kevin, and I am addicted to boating :)

Well, then, let's turn this into... "Welcome aboard, Kevin!" Ain't nothing wrong with being addicted to boating - most of us are! It sounds like you found a boat? Go ahead and update your signature with the info.
