I have a 1990 310 Sundancer that has water stains in the cabin headliner. The boat had some water leaks in the past that were repaired by the previous owner. I understand this was a common problem on these older Sea Rays. The boat is in perfect condition other than these stains and it kind of bugs me. I've had the headliner professionally steam cleaned and tried all different kinds of cleaners and nothing seems to work. I was quoted $6k by a local trim shop to replace the entire headliner. I just don't want to spend that much money. Does anyone know if there are any companies in Michigan that will paint/stain these headliners? If so, it seems that this would be a cheaper solution than completely replacing it.

I owned a 1993 37 express that leaked from day one. Sea Ray actually recommended a cleaner to get rid of headliner stains. As I recall, they recommended a spray product from Wesley's for cleaning fabrics. I bought the product. You sprayed it on the headliner directly on the stains which were brown on the beige headliner material. Then you pressed a clean white towel to soak up the cleaner without moving it around. It did a great job of removing the stain. Unfortunately the stains came back after a good rain or running off shore in a sea. I spent a ton of money trying to find and fix the leaks on that boat. The fixes would work for a while and return. I began to believe that the hull/deck joint was simply not up to the task of running the boat on Lake Michigan in a 2-3 foot sea without flexing and allowing water to work its way inside the boat.

Could that cleaner have been clear majic? It isnt made by westley anymore.Meguires bought it then sold to blue coral then discontinued it.I have the same problem due to leaking hatches and possibly windshield screws and horn screw leaking.Am rebedding all this winter but want to clean headliner while hatches are pulled.Has anyone found a new product or system that works for cleaning the stains? Was thinking upholstery cleaning machine or steamer but dont want to introduce more moisture if i dont have to.Would a pro carpet cleaning company be best?

I tried every cleaner that I could find, and none worked. I eventually ended up spray painting the liner with a beige color paint that closely matched the original color. Since then the liner has stayed clean and the stains haven't bled through. It's been 2 seasons since I did it. I used regular spray paint from Lowes.

Thanks,I do have the ability and know how to dye it ,also the materials (Except the activator),i still would like to clean it first though. My upholstery shop says to clean with odor ban then rinse with water but i hate the smell of that stuff, the gf sprayed some in my trunk of my 56 and it took a long time to air it out, like 6 months.

I had the same issue. Nothing would get those water stains out. I finally found something that did. It's called brown out. http://www.steam-brite.com/pros-choice-brown-gallon-p-84.html

Spray it on full strength and leave it for a couple hours. Then go back and spray it again and wipe it up. Might take a few applications. I have found it will remove every water stain on my upholstery. I had some huge water stains in the v berth where the rub rail was leaking. Fixed the leak and used this to clean the stain. My mid cabin was full of stains and it took those out.
Just be patient. I had spots I was sure wouldn't come out, then I came back the next day and they were gone.

its made by pros choice and is now called browning treatment.do a search for pros choice then find browning treatment ,then search for distributors all in one place.Ok heres a link http://proschoice.com/html/stain_removal.html

this is great, just need to find a place that don't want more to ship it than the product cost. I would like to see some proof on my boat before I took a gamble on this $40 product with shipping will work. If it works it would be $40 to get ride of some frustration well spent. I did a light bleaching on it a few years ago, most part it looks ok, but some days it worse than other's.

Hey bbc where are you in michigan ,we could split a gallon if not too far.

Hmm...I work in Durand right off I-69.

I can just take a trip up to mid Michigan's children s museum someday. I was looking for a place to buy two gallons and not take such a hit on shipping. No luck yet

1956 olds

I ordered two gallons for for 40.78 from www.prochemsupply.com Shipping was the same on one or two and 5% off for liking it on Facebook. So if you want one, let me know. Like I said, I can take the kids to the Children Museum in Saginaw some weekend.

Im in,i wont need it for about two to three weeks,i want to finish my engine maintainance and get a little further on the buffing and waxing.Just give me a time and i can meet you.and a dollar amount so i will be prepared.I live in Flushing and drive through saginaw most saturday mornings on the way to the boat if that would help.If its a week day for the museum trip i work at graff chevrolet in durand.I will pm you my cell .Glen

I ordered it online. Can't remember if it was the site I linked to or another. Been a coup,e years and still have the same gallon. Good stuff to have for cleaning water stains.

A couple tips when using this.
It's not instant like cleaning a window. It's best to spray on, rub it in, then give it another spray and walk away for a couple hours. Then come back and spray and wipe again. I found the best results when I sprayed and then left for the night. The next day the stains were either gone or ready for another treatment.
If you spray it on hard surfaces it will leave a white powdery residue. Easy enough to wipe off, but just be warned. I went bonkers with the stuff and need up cleaning windows, hatches, doors of all this white residue.
If you have tried cleaning anything already and you used a product that had a fabric sealer or scotch guard in it, it will take longer for this chemical to react.
I had a rust spot in my headliner from a windshield screw that wasn't sealed. I used some 3m stuff to clean it. I used the brownout on the headliner to get the water stain out and it took a lot longer to work. Still got it though!
You coul pretreat the fabric with this stuff the day before, then get a hot water extractor and use that the next day. I did that on my mid cabin stains. Worked great, but those stains were fairly light.

Good luck!
