Upper Chesapeake trip: Kent Narrows, MD to Potomac River - destinations to visit along the way

Sure, fair enough... but the main channels are scenic too, in the grand scheme of things... and it sounds like he wants minimum potential for kerfuffle for his upcoming "delivery" trip with new-to-him boat and an unfamiliar navigation area.

Totally agree that you don't need ANY trouble on your first trip...stay away from potential grounding in known skinny water. By the way...not sure if you've done it but TowBoat US or Seatow subscription is well advised before you head out.

On our visit last year, we went to a new restaurant named Corah's Corner, liked it a lot. I was just looking at the map to refresh my memory, I see the house restaurant at St. Michaels Marina (Seafood House?) next to Foxy's has closed and been replaced by a new place named Blu Miles that opened this month. It's getting good reviews albeit from a small number of patrons so far.

It’s on Main Street, just to the north end of town.

Yeah, there are two other transients here plus us. Limoncello was a disappointment, service was not that great, we sat around a long time waiting. So did the tables around us. Sprout was great for coffee.

Goodbye St Michaels, what an amazing charming town destination. That Sea Ray sedan was anchored outside the channel all weekend.

Maybe number one on our list now. Minus the traffic and loud cars on Talbot Street. We were told it gets pretty crowded and packed in season.

The wife and I enjoyed the weekend in St Micheals too…that was us in the Sedan Bridge.
Wife enjoyed a little shopping and I was just glad to get out on the boat for the weekend. Had dinner out last night at the tourist trap, Crab Claw. Ate the rest of the meals on the boat.
Starting to enjoy the (almost) empty nester weekends.

Next destination: Annapolis. Any marina/restaurant recommendations?

mooring ball just off the main dock and either dinghy in or get the water taxi to come fetch you. However, since you’re not local, this is a big visit for you. Call the dock master and reserve a slip along Ego Alley! Show off that new boat!

We have occasionally taken a slip in Ego Alley, but yep, there's foot traffic, late night partiers, etc. Probably worth a try once, whether now or later. (We'd have to go further in, now, and take a side tie-up on the walls.)

Annapolis Yacht Basin (co-located with the Yacht Club) is an option that avoids all the pedestrian traffic on the Ego Alley docks.

Annapolis City Dock (which is not the public harbor in Ego Alley) on the Eastport side -- near Carroll's Creek restaurant -- used to be a decent option, 'til our last boat was too big for their slips. Might work for you...

Almost all the restaurants in the downtown area -- either Annapolis side or Eastport side -- are worth a look; can't think of any that outright fail. There's only about 30 within easy walking distance. :)

You could see who's playing at Ram's Head, if they're back open these days...

I would recommend a slip or the sea wall or even mooring buoy in downtown annapolis “ego alley” or Spa Creek. Mooring balls are on spa creek and all the way up the creek past the bridge. You can call Annapolis Harbor Master (410) 263-7973) for reservations. Mooring balls and some of the seawall is first come first serve.

Some have said the sea wall is not great but there are slips on one end. Also on the far side of Ego alley they reserve the wall and there is much less foot traffic….

If you want a marina and still be near downtown you can try the Yacht Basin.

So many good places to eat depending on what you like to eat all within walking distance to Ego Alley. Good start below but many others…

Feel free to ask more questions…

Breakfast -
Chic and Ruth’s
Iron Rooster

Dinner -
McGarveys
Boatyard
Pussers
Joss (sushi)
Rams Head
Davis Pub (locals and it’s a 1 mile walk)
Galway Bay (Irish pub)

Upscale-
Lewnes (steak)
Olearys (seafood)
Chart House
Carrols Creek

Ice Cream-
Storm Brothers

Upscale (expensive) Ice Cream and deserts
Killwins

Also thinking about wandering up the Chester River for a weekend trip, looks like Rock Hall is on the river? Is that a good place to spend the weekend or are there other options?

Any other destinations North of Kent Island we should check out?
