Unfortunate that a CSR member is so Clueless!

It's good to try and be considerate of others on the water. It's not always easy... We've all done stupid things and have all had them done to us. It's how you learn from the experience and god willing you walk away from it.

Watching for the PM. Please understand that when traveling barely on plane, your wake is at a maximum as the ass end of the boat is "digging a big hole". I am truly glad to hear this is being taken seriously and you feel bad about it. My intent is "tough love" so people really get to hear from a cross section of experienced boaters. If this helps you understand more about the rules of the waterway, mission accomplished.

Ken,
I appreciate your notion of "tough love". I have learned that constructive criticism is a good thing, I only wish you had PM'd me instead because public criticism only puts people on the defensive and they very rarely learn from it. BTW- I am aware of the effects of the hull in the water at varying speeds. I'm also very aware of the rules of the waterway. This was a good reminder however and as I mentioned, I'm very sorry for my mis-judgement in this case.

I got pinged yesterday.

I was embarrassed no end..

I am normally very careful and very considerate of people around me, however I was concentrating on revs and speed, was just over 12kn's and was about to pop it out of the hole.

When I heard a whistle behind me. I looked round to see a jet ski up my bum, and realised it was a Maritime Officer, the moment I turned round I saw the wake I had kicked up and knew what he was about to say.

I didn't argue, just totally agreed, and apologised as I had not noticed it. I was so pissed of with it, as I am normally observant and aware, and get annoyed with those that do it.

Few people would have reacted so rationally when being called out for our indiscretions in a public way. Good on you for taking it so well and making it a learning exercise instead of a mud slinging contest. We all make mistakes. The lessons we learn from them are what make us better people at the end of the day.

SR400DB, "Others on your dock at Perry's have though, many times. Sometimes even the 460 DA. "

Hello, my name is John Halling. I own the 460 at Perry's. If I have waked your boat I truly apologize. You made it sound as if this is a common event. Where is it that this is happening? I am, I believe very mindful of the wake Toy yoT puts out. I moved up from a 27 to this boat, so I am always conscious of my wake. Most of the time I travel at less than 10 knots mainly due to how tight the rivers are.

Last July my wife broke her wrist and I hauled back to the slip so I could get her to emergency.

Please tell me where so I can do a better job.

John

Glad you guys worked this out like family.

Little boats can leave big wake too. OldSkool is a heavy deep vee and when shes plowing through off plane she makes a good size wake. check out my sig pictures at about 15mph. I rocked a 16ft John boat one time so bad I thought the fisherman was going to come out of his seat. Tackle box when flying but luckily everything stayed in the boat. After a round of apologies I was on my way with a new attitude.

This is sorta like group therapy...everyone sitting around in a circle and 'sharing'...thank you Old School, does anyone else have something they'd like to tell the group?

This is hard ... But here goes. We were at grand haven michigan just cruising in the channel and a Donzi went by with a beautiful woman in a white bikini ..... I looked more than once at that body and nearly drifted into a boat next to me , the admiral noticed the Hot chick too.... It was a long night!!!!!

Let's really turn this thread positive. If we have any math scholars, is there a formula that we could at least get a rou estimate on how far a wake will travel, until its size diminishes to safe levels? It won't necessarily be a factor of the size of the boat, but rather the size of the wake and the speed of the boat (the size of the boat influences the wake size, but so do other factors). That would really give a useful answer to this problem. Especially with an unfamiliar boat.

Not an appropriate share, Bolt. . . you didn't WAKE the other boat. Get with the program! The "Crashed a Boat Looking at Hot Chicks" meets in Room 301.

I wasn't underway but while I was at the dock dropping of my daughter, my oversized ex wife jumped in the boat with her filthy shoes and the boat sank down to what felt like the rub rail. It displaced quite a bit of water anyway creating a wake which knocked a guy tied up next to me off his bass boat into the water. No BS. Then when she went to get our daughters bag from under the bow seat, she ripped the cushion out with her gorilla arms taking a piece of gel coat with it. She did apologize but geez.

Be safe out there everybody.

"Ummm, BOTH. Although I usually know when I'm looking at hot chicks!"

It is not my fault when this happens ... it is an involuntary reflex that I find most annoying when I am trying to concentrate on my wake.

Ok, here's my wake story. We were in the ICW in Jersey and my buddy was driving my 26 foot Four Winns at speed, we came upon a No Wake bouy right in the middle of two channel markers-strange place for it as channel was narrow to begin with. He slows down and goes around it, staying in the channel. Next thing we know a wave runner with an NJ Trooper on it pulls us over and yells about our wake. We stop, he attempts to board my swim platform and falls into the bay-all we see is a hand holding a walkie-talkie sticking up out of the water. His partner on the other jet ski is laughing hysterically! He boards our boat-we are scared sh*tless! He was pissed! Until he see's his partner laughing, then he starts laughing, too. First time he ever fell in he tells us-after 20 years on the water. So he gives us a safety inspection and sends us on our way. Every one at the yacht club we were in front of stands up and claps and cheers. He waves to them and slinks off.

Winner!

Reading this thread this morning, I am reminded of something I recently read which proved out here....

Rebuke a mocker and you invite hatred and insults,
rebuke a wicked person and abuse ensues, However, rebuke the wise and they will be wiser, add to their learning, and appreciate you for it. Proverbs 9:7-9
