Underwater exhaust loose 2001 Sundancer 340

I’ll be working on my new to me 340 in April and checking in here. Seems a lot of experience here to learn from. Sold the little boat after a couple seasons and this will be a great upgrade.

Owned mine since 19. Replaced just about everything at this point

Where the fiberglass exhaust tube goes through the hull inside of the engine room there are four stainless threaded studs coming up through the hull around that tube. Those are the fasteners for the bronze exhaust nozzle. Either a couple have snapped or corroded or are loose. It needs to be pulled off the boat, surfaces cleaned up, studs replaced, and re-bedded with 5200. The leak in the boat is most likely from the fasteners.
Also, there is a bonding wire connected to one of the studs - make sure that gets cleaned up and put back on.

Oh, never mind - just read @bfernald0 's posts - mine is redundant.....

I agree with ttmott in terms of what should be done here, with the addition (and I suspect ttmott would agree here as well) that you really at this point want to drill out the 4 bolt holes, fill them with epoxy and redrill. This era 340 does not have a cored hull, so it should be solid glass, but I would still be belt and suspenders about it if you're going to go through all the trouble of hauling, etc.

Based on where this is said to be leaking, it doesn't sounds like it's the problem I faced, but again, if you're pulling the whole thing apart anyway on both sides, I'd probably do the additional work to ensure that you'll never have any leaking at the tube/hull interface either. I suspect it wouldn't be more than a grand or so more to do that additional work on top of what you're already doing.

Hey everyone,

It's my first season with my new (to me) 2001 Sundancer 340. Halfway through the season, I noticed a little water appearing in the bildge. I monitored it and it never seemed a big issue but I would look at it in the next month after it was out of the water.

The boat comes out of the water and I see this (see attached photo). I'm mad that the seller may have tried to get one by me by caulking the exhaust when he noticed it leaking.

Regardless, I'm stuck with making it right but I have no clue as to what this will cost or take for me to fix. Anyone have a clue on this one?

Cheers all, and thanks in advance for any advice.
I had the same issue and even had it come off without knowing, so I had to have the boat pulled to make a temporary repair. I had a survey done as well that showed no issues what so ever. I will be placing a new one on this winter. From what Im told these are designed to come off in the event you hit something submerged, the bolts will shear so you do destroy the hull as they are glassed in.
