Tropical Storm Ian Prediction as of 0200 EDT.

I have friends that live on Sanabel Island (they evac'd early) but the causeway over to the island has collapsed. Other friends in Alva which is about eight miles east of Ft Meyers had some dock damage, they are on the Ockee waterway. They are trying to find out about the status of their Katey Krogan moored on that dock. Everything in the Ft Meyers area is a mess - obviously.
For us the eye is right overhead now; expecting significant rain this afternoon with moderate winds from the north.
At my house at daylight this morning; my dock is normally 2 feet above the water -

Hey if anybody sees a 2004ish red hull 320 dancer in the Ft Myers Beach area that is a friend of mine boat. Told me the whole marina is gone and has no idea where the boat is.

Suggest he posts this on THT sub forum for the west coast of FL. There are several other be on the lookout for postings there for lost boats.

My Uncle (and Godfather) is in Punta Gorda. We haven't heard from him since the eye passed over yesterday.

Apparently the Sanibel Captiva causeway lost a section. That's the only way in and out in a vehicle. It's going to be a while before that's repaired.

I am headed to The Office early am tomorrow, it is supposed to start affecting the area around 2am. Should be OK but need to be there in case.

It's worse than that, the land based portions of the causeway are gone too. Sanibel is destroyed. Haven't seen images from Captiva yet. What a shame for everyone in FLA. Sick to my stomach.

If you were to cross that causeway over to Sanibel and Captiva, looking back towards the mainland is Pine Island. Second inside barrier island, protected by Sanibel and Captiva which are between it and the gulf.

The bridge from the mainland onto Pine island was also wiped out. I can't imagine there could be much left of either Sanibel or Captiva.

Small world...I work with the father of the dock master at this particular marina. He mentioned to me this morning that some of the boat owners there are being super aggressive with marina staff today (already!), suggesting that they didn't do enough to secure the boats before the storm.

I imagine there are lots of emotions for those owners but holy smokes...I think it's clear that ten more sets of 1" lines wasn't going to do much for any of those boats?

Another story he just shared - apparently a bunch of these boats came down from Tampa last week to avoid the storm based on the predictions that it would hit north. That's a bigtime bummer...

We keep our boat on a rack in Englewood I have a feeling the boat is destroyed
If not it’s heavily damaged it was on the bottom rack.
I’ll post my results when the marina answers the phone.

I would expect that that little village of Matlacha is wiped out too.

Best of luck hope all goes well and stay safe.

It sure seems like all the lead up to this storm was focused on only Tampa. Not even a mention of Fort Meyers until very late? Looks pretty awful for those guys...
I have a good friend in Tampa that reported no damage to his property only a few hours with out power but 20 miles south was beat up pretty bad.

Joe Dalton, on vacation from Cleveland, Ohio, checks out beached boats at Fort Myers Wharf along the Caloosahatchee River Thursday in Fort Myers, Fla., after Hurricane Ian. (Amy Beth Bennett/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP)

And we all thought insurance was getting hard to find, expensive and restrictive before, fasten seat belts when you get your renewal next year:(. Looks like I picked a good time to make my boat some one else's dream come true. of course now I will be insuring an 1/2 a million dollar RV and we really are all in the same pool.
Thought and prayers go out to our Floridian friends.
Cheers

I’m in Beaufort, SC. At one time it was going to re enter land as A tropical storm pretty much centered on my house. Max sustained winds were projected at 50mph for a few hours tomorrow afternoon. Now they’ve moved the track east a bit to re enter at Charleston as a Cat 1. Interestingly that dropped the max sustained wind projection for me from 50 mph to 30mph. Being a bit west of us in Thunderbolt, should be no worse than that.

Just found out that a good friend's 52' Ocean Alexander is also missing from Ft. Meyers. Beautiful boat, such a shame.
