Trying to find some info on Seaside park marina. Anybody have any info or ideas about this place? Are there any marinas close to walking distance of seaside park?

Thanks all.

Just to add we are looking for destination marina that has Bathroom/Shower facilities and gas. Pool would be nice and close to the beach to be able to walk too. Or somewhere we can anchor out and paddle our dighy to shore to play alittle. Looks specifically in Barnegat bay near Seaside or Point Pleasant. I know about Silver bay but trying to get somebody with local knowledge. :)

Thanks all.

There are really no marinas down that way. Plenty of stuff over on the mainland side, but not on the island but you'd need a cab or to rent a car to get across to Seaside.

If you're looking to anchor out, you can do so adjacent to Pelican Island - I believe it's called Cranberry Cove. As you head south down the bay, just before you go under the Rt. 37 Bridge, you pick up daymarks (on the left) that will take you in along the bridge to the anchorage. It's no wake, wide open, well protected and clean deep water (deep around here is 9 feet). You can dink over to a small public (very public) beach and walk across to all the glory that is Seaside (a bit more than a 1/2 mile). Not so sure I'd leave my boat unattended there though.

Take a look at activecaptain.com and look at the google aerial images to get an idea of what it looks like. Bingmaps is even better for more of a 3D view.

The marina just north of that public bay-beach is called Bayside Marina. Probably worth a call but it is pretty small.

Hi Alvin!

It looks like you guys had a blast up in LI this weekend, sorry we couldn't meet up, the weather and my work just got in the way for us. There is not much in the way of transient marinas down ths way but I thought I would let you know what we do often with my 3 y/o and a bunch of kids on the boat often since you are in the same boat (literally too!).

We dock down in the metedeconk river but often travel up and down the bay and up to the manasquan river. If you wanted to go to Pt. Pleasant, I don't know of any Marinas that have transient space close by other than Belmar Marina up in the Shark River inlet and that is not far from what I'm about to tell you.

My wife and I regularly hang out (now that the f-cove is closed) at Treasure Island at the mouth of the Pt. Pleasant Canal and the Manasquan River. It's a fun place to anchor out for the day right off a nice island that the kids can play on (including a beach, etc). Then we often dock at The Shrimp Box or The Wharfside (The Wharfside now has a dock attendant to assist in docking all summer). These places are literally right inside the Manasquan inlet. The Wharfside is great with live music and even better if you can score a table outside in the restaurant (not on the patio right where live music is) because it's nice to sit in the shade, enjoy the live music, get dinner and the kids have a place to sit too. The patio tends to get VERY busy on weekends and we have taken the kids here too but earlier in the evening.

The Shrimp Box recently had a fire but is apparently still open (we called). The dock can handle about 5-7 boats depending on sizes there and is in more protected water than the Wharfside (even though they are very close to each other). We like going here too and getting buckets of beer and some food. Both of these places (The Shrimp Box and The Wharfside) are an easy walk to Pt. Pleasant boardwalk with the games, rides, etc. the boardwalk actually extends all the way to the Manasquan Inlet so it's a nice walk down to the action with the kids. We have often spent an hour or two eating and drink at one of these places and then took an hour or two walking down and back to Pt. Pleasant for some games and ice cream, etc. I don't like to leave the boat too long since its a transient place for people to visit. Also, the tidal change is 3+ feet so tie up appropriately at each place according to the tide.

The Shark River inlet is about a 15 minute or so ride from Manasquan inlet and the Belmar Marina has LOTS of transient slips from what I hear. We actually plan to go there on June 9-10th for the Belmar Seafood festival and sleep on the boat (weather permitting).

As far as going through the canal and heading into the BBay, we like to go to Toms River (at the very end is a dock and dine place called the lobster shanty). The Metedeconk has a small restaurant at Wherlens Marina and the Pilot House is an excellent restaurant at the end of the metedeconk river next to where we dock (Brennan's Marina, stay right at end of river and follow sticks all the way around while sticking left at the fork in the road by green point marina. Don't cut the small island short by the last marinas, it's shallow).

That's about what we know for the northern part of the bay. We're still waiting for our invite to the secret spot since AC last year too!! Enjoy and let us know if we can help in any way or meet up with the kids since you will be in our area sometime.

Michael,

The trip out to Jones beach wasn't bad. And just for your FYI the 240 handled it awesome. Even the Jones Inlet wasn't to bad. Just stayed calm and used common sense. I can say alot of ppl on Sunday leaving the show didn't use much common sense. Especialy under bridges. Don't know what gives about that.

Thank you so much for that info. At Point Pleasant The Shrimp Box and The Wharfside sound like a perfect place as we wanted to try to get to the boardwalk for the kids to play. Assuming they have fixed docks hence the warning about the tidal change. Good to know. They won't get pissed about leaving the boats at the dock to go to the boardwalk after having some food and drinks? Do you know of a close Marina with Facilities near these 2 places?

We are planning on coming down July 4th and staying till the 6th. So we are trying to get some transient slip for 2 nights now before they are all taken.

I was looking at Dillions Creek and the Light House Point Marina in Toms River as they seem to have nice Facilities. But that is a trek from Shrimp Box and Wharfside.

Have to do some more research.

Thanks,

Alvin

Those restaurants haven't ever said anything to us regarding leaving the boat. However, we have always arrived and had food and drink first before we did anything else. Plus, we have never left the boat more than an extra 2 hours or so after the meal to visit the boardwalk with the kids because the place gets very busy and a lot of people are sometimes waiting a while to dock at these two places. And yes, they are all fixed docks at these places. Funny story about my first year boating and these docks over beers sometime.

From the restaurants in the Manasquan, getting to the mouth of Toms River should take about an hour. I wouldn't do it at night for the first time as their are a few shallow areas (like most of the bay) that you need to be aware of. If you left the restaurants and boardwalk by 6:45, you would have plenty of daylight to make it down to Toms Rive in about an hour. If you plan to go through the pt pleasant canal, look up the currents for it. Taking the pt pleasant canal when you are with the current makes a big difference in time and you'll burn less gas too but it's not always possible to do. It will get rough for the holiday you plan to come but it's easily manageable.

After the pt pleasant canal, you have a choice to go no wake to the left of the island or go right around the island on plane to a short no wake zone on the other side of the island. Follow the markers as their is a large sand bar north of that island. Once through the first bridge, the bay can become rough but easily manageable. Remember to stay to the West of most of the entire bay and follow the markers south as a large part of the bay is very shallow.

If you plan to go to Toms River, then think about visiting Tices Shoal (just north of the Barnegat Inlet and marked on maps). Follow the markers to buoy BB and then go east to the shore and look for the thousand or so boats anchored off the shore line. Lots of rafts ups occur here and lots of people and boats. Can be a fun place but can get choppy too. You can use Barnegat Inlet to go home from Tices Shoal but I would prefer to take the ICW up to Manasquan.

Enjoy!

Was thinking about Tices Shoal also, but I heard that place is a zoo and with the kids on board might not make to much sense. Thanks again for the local knowledge sharing there. It helps alot. Will let you know what we plan on doing and if you are around maybe we can meet up. I'll post some pics of the Air Show later today. I'll be picking your brain more later about this trip. :)

We don't go to Tices Shoal very often for a few reasons. It's an hour ride from us, it's very crowded and sometimes can get some pretty clueless boaters, pwc's, and people in general and it gets choppy sometimes which makes it uncomfortable while hanging on the hook. It is however filled with kids and you can have a blast, especially with a dingy (where do you put that thing!!). We prefer Treasure Island in the Manasquan since the water is calmer and the ride is shorter for us plus it gives us the option to go to eat at a few dock and dine places mentioned earlier and access to Pt. Pleasant boardwalk.

Feel free to contact us with any info needed. Lots of people on here have a lot more knowledge than I do but I'd be happy to help as I can.

I was at Tice's Shoal Sunday & Monday. There were a good number of boats anchored there on both days. Granted you'll always have a couple of loudmouth jackasses there but you get that anywhere there is a large crowd in bathing suits and water. For the most part the only issues I've seen is people not knowing how to anchor securely and the occasional loud stereo, but as your pulling up you can usually spot those boats and dock further away if you prefer a more AARP setting, myself, I find the show amusing and although I'm not one of those doing the entertaining I don't mind watching the show. The previous poster is correct if you have a dinghy or even an inflatable raft you can make your way to the Island walk across a small boardwalk and 5 minutes later you be at Island Beach State Park, sand life guards, snack bar and showers. They also have boats selling ice cream, snacks etc... at Tices Shoal. I dock at Key Harbor Marina which is about 8 miles from Tice's and with the cost of gas limiting long trips we'll normally cruise out to Tice's and anchor, then tie an inflatable party raft to the boat, get the grill going, turn Sirius Radios to the Classic Vinyl channel and Veg out for the afternoon. In my opinion that's what's it's all about.
Getting to the Seaside Boardwalk in the evening without a car may be tricky, we'll go back to the Marina tie up and drive over, without a car I don't know how you would get there. If you think want to see a Geek, Freak and Pinhead show the boardwalk is a must see.

YEah our priority is either to get to a boardwalk or the beach where the kids can play. Treasure Island and POint pleasant are sounding better but we need to find a marina. We might stick to LIght House Point if they have availability.

We have an inflatable that can accomodate all 4 of us. Can be tied down to the bow as needed. :)

I've seen a few empty slips at our marina this year so I'm not sure if they would rent them as transients for those days. Our marina has a pool (open 10-5pm) and a small bathroom with two showers in it. If you plan to stick to up north with pt pleasant and treasure island, you may want to look into it. Here is the link:

I'm not sure of which Marinas have pools to help out but I know ours does and there is at least one in the Manasquan River that in know of, don't know the name though.

I'm still trying to figure out how you're going to get from a marina 4 miles up Toms River or a marina 3 miles up the Metedeconk to a beach without a car. Maybe you can rent a car (enterprise will probably pick you up at the marina). There was another thread started recently by a guy looking for a marina walking distance to a beach up near Pt. Pleasant.

When I mean a beach I mean maybe taking the boat there. Like Treasure island or Tices Shoal. Anchoring near the beach and taking the inflatable over.

Thanks Michael. A possibility for sure.

Ron is right. . . from the Metedeconk or Toms River, the drive to the Ocean Beaches or broadwalks is about 30 minutes.

Tices gives you access to Island Beach State Park, which is an awesome state park. By boat, you are anchoring a short distance offshore, dingy over, then have a 5 minute walk across the island to the Ocean side. Personally. . . . I would be hesitant to leave my boat in that area given the "moron factor", but it's probably ok. When I want to go to the beach. . .I drive over. Easier to bring the beach chairs that way.

Treasure island is a good spot for beaching boats and whatnot. I am not really sure you can do that anywhere else south of the Canal. The marinas that were recommeded are fine. If you are into anchoring out, Silver Bay is a really the best protected spot for overnight anchoring. You can anchor very close to shore, but the park officials will not allow beaching. There will be no way to get anywhere from there, however. (i.e. can't hail a cab from the woods!)

As mentioned above, if you are unfamiliar with the bay, you don't want to go at night for your first time. Too many unlit markers. The good news is. . .once you know where the markers are located, night travel in the bay is EASY and FUN. I hardly ever see boats without adequate lights. . and there are almost no crab traps to deal with.

Also, for staying overnight. . I would not rule out the places on Forked River.

Silver Bay was nice on Monday - lots of boat, but only one or two f-covers.. For a really nice family weekend, try Shelter Harbour in LBI The marina is great, cool, cable tv and great folks. Plus very close to the beach (walking distance) and very close to some really great eateries and amusements

Thanks all. I know about Silver Bay as my brother in law kept his boat at Coty Marine right by there and we went out to Silver Bay. We called the Seaside Park Marina which is right by the boardwalk. It's owned by the town and seems to have availablity and has shower/bathrooms facilites, clean and close to the beach and boardwalk. Anybody seen this place or have stayed there.

Alvin, My wife and I are friends with the daughter of the guy who runs the Seaside Park marina, and I will check this weekend with her on the specifics... I believe it is owned by the town...

Ocean Beach Marina is on the barrier island and you can walk to the beach from there. I don't know if they have transient spaces, but here is their website: http://www.oceanbeachmarina.com/

I would recommend that you consider staying in the river at Shore Point Marina, Lighthouse point or Dillan's creek. There will be fireworks on river and that would be fun. Shore Point's website is: http://www.shorepointmarina.com/ Ask for Ken...

We spent Sat and Sun on river and it was great. Monday we anchored in Governor's Cut north of Tices. It was not crowed and water is deep enough to dive off the boat. Tice's Shoal is a great place to go, and access to the beach is great. If you go during the week you won't have to worry about any crazy people...

Rod,

Thanks and let me know. We are considering Lighthouse as our second choice right now as they have access to the Town that would be cool. But please let me know what you find out about Seaside Park Marina.

Honestly so many places my head is spinning. :)

Thank you to everybody for your help.

Not sure what town Lighthouse Point is talking about. You are a very short walk to a great ice cream parlor, liquor store, and adult video store (or so I have heard), but other than that............nada. The town of Toms River is about 1/2 mile or so down the road. Some restaurants and minimal shopping.....nothing for the kids. Dillon's Creek (our marina) is great marina but is in the middle of nowhere. Without a car, you are already at the local "hub" of activities.

Tices, Governors Cut, Toms River itself, nice anchorages but again, unless you can keep the kids occupied....not much for them. Good hunting.
