Transmission wow's

Hans,
How did it do coming up the Bush today? Is it doing it at full forward throttle or just in reverse?
That was a lot of waxing on that 40 footer. I am tired!:smt015

Please explain the leak test............

I was not present for the leak down test. Not really sure what it proved. All I know is that the results were acceptable. They also replaced my spark plug wires. Boat runs well at above 850 rpm. Had a great ride yesterday until I backed into my slip. Noise is still there in reverse.

Has there been any resolution to the noise or is it still there? I was having the same/similar issue with my 31 foot SeaRay. See post WOT 3200 RPM

Problem still there, however, we are making progress. Mercruiser Rep came by to do a firmware upgrade on the engine computers. This did lessen the noise somewhat but the noise was still there just greatly reduced. We then sent all the fuel injectors out for cleaning. They are still out so we'll see when they're reinstalled. These diagnostics started on the 8th of July and still on going. I wasted a great deal of time and money with the original mechanic who suggested replacing the transmission, big mistake. This mistake cost $7,600.00. Buyers beware! After wasting 5 weeks I took it to MarineMax.

Hans (and Kreole Kid),

Last week, I just had your exact same noise in my port tranny - noticed that there was an unburned fuel smell by the port exhaust (thanks Admiral - she noticed it untying us) at idle in the slip, and the port engine surged +/- 200 RPM underway.

Replaced the plugs and it solved the problem. I have 230 hours and MM "supposedly" replaced the plugs at my last 200 hour check which was done at 157 hours two years ago. Now there is no tranny "clunking" noise what so ever.

Sorry what you have been through, but mine was definitely engine related...

Used AC 41-983 plugs gapped at .060" - per spec.

Yeah, got new spark plugs and cables also but didn't help. Thursday we get the injectors back.

At long last my Transmission Wow's have been resolved. The issue was resolved my MarineMax and Merc. The problem was with the fuel. My fuel injectors did not have a good flow. Sent the injectors out last week for testing and cleaning. They were installed yesterday. Ran the engines up today and guess what, NO TORSIONAL NOISE! The problem had absolutely nothing to do with the transmission that the original mechanic let me to believe. This mechanic was not part of MarineMax. Lessons learned; get a second opinion. Stick with the vendor you purchased the boat from, MarineMax!

Good to hear.

I can't say that I would blame the other mechanic. I'm pretty sure most people would have headed down that same path, even this MM shop. Unfortunately, someone else eliminated the trans as a possible cause for them.

Good to hear! Congrads, it was a long road for you.

You may want to consider going back to the transmission mechanic and demand satisfaction for his false troubleshooting.....

Great news Hans!

Yeah, but that mistake cost $7,600.00 of which only $2,600 was covered under Passport.

I just want to move on. Learned a great lesson here, only deal with people you know.
