Transmission wow's

Hans, did they give you a cause? Just wondering if it is something the rest of us 8.1 owners need to keep in mind.

Hans took the boat back to his marina yesterday. The vibration has been removed as our marina here had the props sent out. The noise is still there but greatly reduced. The mechanics here are all leaning towards a miss firing cylinder at the low RPM’s and possibly a fuel injector issue.

The knocking sound got better just by running some fuel treatment through it. They gave him the OK to take the boat out, which he is doing this week. Hopefully running a load of fresh gas and fuel treatment will help.

I wonder as I read other threads here with engine knocking problems on the new boats, is the ethanol damaging fuel injectors?

So, who wins the cookie? (I know, I know, 1 in a million - even a blind squirrel occassionally gets a nut - STS).

Post 84 in this thread made in August..... Brownie points for being close?

Just a guess. When changing the fuel filter on port engine, there is an additional filter under the main filter. This is a very close tolerance fit. We may have pushed some dirt into it as we pushed the new filter down. Whatever got pushed down with the new filter may have been taken into the injectors causing the obstruction. Note to self; let the professionals do it.

Hans,
So what are you saying. It's almost fixed? Again?
Spent 20 plus hours at the marina working on Second Chance. Man that is a lot of boat.

Side note - computer is working fine.

Thrust bearings usually have a .005 play in them. If the thrust bearing goes, it will send pieces down the crank taking out rod and main bearings. This doesn't sound like a thrust bearing

MarineMax will start working on this issue again after the 17th of January when they reopen. Once the boat is fixed I believe I'll be selling it. It's a great boat except for the torsional noise thing. Wanted a 44 anyway.

That's some funny $hit right there! After all that and you're going to give up? :smt043

Nope, I haven't found anything funny about this at all. The boat will be finished this spring. It has been a long haul.

Hans - I guess I have been out of touch. I thought this was finished and you were good to go. Very sorry to hear you are still having troubles.
