Too much water in bilge!!!

If you had water spraying, I would start by checking all the water hoses to look for a busted one. There are also water hoses under the engine that connect to the water pump you will need to check as well.

If no busted hoses, your next likely culprit is a failed bellow but I dont think that would have sprayed.

I am not going to recommend spraying the engine or not but if you decide to, make sure to cover your ECM (mounted to inside of Port Riser) very well and protect it from water. You get water in that and you will have all kinds of new problems to address.

Are you sure it was salt water entering, but rather just rain water accumulated from a few days of raining. This could happen if your bilge pump was busted.

regarding spraying your engine with fresh water. I do this often with no issues. As advised above, keep stream of water away from ECM and ignition components. A little water is ok.

A GoPro camera would come in handy, also could be the cool fuel module http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bulletins/001/04//2009/EN_01.PDF

A new Gen III cool fuel module is being introduced to replace the existing Gen III module.
Engines with serial numbers above the range listed are equipped with the new module
from the factory. The primary difference between the designs is the method of connecting
the cooling water hoses to the module. they leak

Someone posted a while back about a deck to hull seam sealing issue on their 260 on a Bahamas trip I think. Do a forum search and you should find it. If I recall the symptoms were the same as yours.

I had a similar issue and it was the transducer seal that was bad. My bilge would fill with water but luckily the bilge pump could keep up. This happened all of a sudden. I had the boat pulled and the transducer seal replaced.

Is the boat raw water cooled? Dripping from the belt area leads me to think thermostat area.... housing, hoses, water pump, etc... I'm assuming you mean dripping from underside of the hatch.

I'm sure it is the same issue Chuck and I have both had. Where the lower hull meets the upper hull there was a gap where the fasteners were letting go. Under heavy load and plowing the water runs up the side and in the gap allowing the water in. Bilge pump keeps up until the breaker flips or pump dies then you really notice the water. The spray all over was from your bottom engine pully slinging the water everywhere in the engine compartment.

Wash and rewash everything in there and then spray with WD40 everywhere. Take your boat to the dealer and they should take care of you.

Best regards,

Kendall

I assume that you are not getting water in your oil.

Since the engine is sputtering at 3300 RPM's, it stands to reason that your leak is a high pressure one that is spraying water on the ignition components or is spraying water into your air intake (the flame arrestor). Can you run it with the hatch up on a 2006? That is the easiest way to pin it down. Otherwise, check the T-stat housing, the drain plugs for winterizing the motor, cooling hoses, etc.

3300 RPM's is not on plane, so you shouldn't have to worry about the hatch catching the wind.

I'd follow Jack's recommendation and have the Cool Fuel module checked. I had a similar issue last weekend where I saw spray in the engine room but nothing at idle, then while trying to limp her home (it's 2 miles) after dinner she took on over a foot of water at higher RPMs but almost none after draining it and idling home. Dealer found the plastic fitting on the Cool Fuel had broken.
