Canada has banned all cruise ships until July 1st. This is a major blow to the Vancouver economy as many cruise ships depart from here for Alaska beginning in April. Quebec just shut down all schools and day cares. B.C. has cancelled all large events and banned any gatherings over 250 people. My company (Warmer Bros.) is shutting down all production here. The first death in Canada occurred last week a mile down the road from us and 7 new cases in North Vancouver (population 60,000) were just reported this morning.

It goes on and on and will get worse.

the real tragedy in all of this is going to be the economic impact that will far outlast the virus itself. Many people are going to go bankrupt. Many people are going to lose everything. Some will lose their lives. This is a human tragedy the likes of which I doubt any of us have ever seen. It far transcends politics or country. We are all human, and this will affect us all. I hope this will serve as a wake up call and that we as a world will be better prepared when something (god forbid) more sinister threatens us again.

be safe and stay vigilant everyone.

Frankly I don’t give a rats ass what those outside the country think. The truth on testing is its controlled by the CDC and FDA. They have been very cumbersome to get ramped up. They actually have the capability of doing 20000 tests a day, same as S Korea, but the bureaucracy has slowed it down. FDA was slow to approve private testing companies. That’s all being straightened out. We don’t need millions of tests, yet.

Same people that criticize Trump for criticizing Obama are the very same people who give Obama credit for the Trump economy. Hypocrites.

Obama was in office for almost a decade. In that time he presided over two virus outbreaks one of which was Ebola! Yet he did nothing to modernize the CDC and here we are with no mass testing mechanism.

So yes, in addition to presiding over the highest unemployment rate, high levels of food stamps, lowest levels of GDP, lowest levels of wage growth, lowest levels of morale and general optimism nationwide, oversaw multiple scandals Benghazi, FISA abuse, and many others, Hussein Obama was an awful POTUS and a resounding failure.

And now the Dems are upset because their best chance at overthrowing Trump is an 80 year old rich white dude who can’t finish his sentences.

Agreed. Bush wimped out during real estate bubble collapse compelled by Libs crying descriminatory lending practices at the banks who in response gave any poor soul a mortgage whether they could make the payment or not.

    We actually agree suzzie!

As a follow-up, the WH press briefing and the actionable steps taking place are exactly (well not exactly) what are needed. So, perhaps a bit late (I mean this same conference and steps could have happened 30 days ago), but at least it's ramping up now. I'm not sure any other admin. could have done it faster.

We are in no sense of the imagination out of the woods. The efforts of Govs and all others that are shutting down events, etc. will buy us some time.

For those that want to discount the seriousness, just look at what Italy is dealing with. You do not want this coming to a town near you.

How does Italy compare to the rest of Europe?

IMO this is exactly the rhetoric and tone that exacerbates the facts on the ground.

What “woods” exactly? You mean the rate of spread or the unwarranted panic by the toilet paper brigade?

The mortality rate is 1% or less and most deaths are at one nursing home in Seattle.

The mortality rate will decrease in proportion to an increase in positive tests.

The shame of all this aside from the 47 people in the US that have died is the collateral damage to the economy and disruption in people’s day to day lives.

Italy is not a good comparison to the US population mainly because almost 25% of their population is over the age of 60.

    Why the doom and gloom?

Just a question. But could the culture of how Italians greet each other contribute to the seriousness in Italy? The hand shake followed by the right and left cheek kiss?

Italy has a few things going against them. Their greeting, their elderly population and their smoking rate. They may not be a good comparison

Actually not my point at all; the point is you seem to focus the entire issue on what the president said (your singular statement) and that is not factual by any stretch of the imagination. You nor I have any idea what the administration is dealing with and what or how to communicate to the public as things are simply in flux with many moving parts. The federal government is so large that facts flow at an abysmally slow pace. But the public demands answers immediately; the press is a buzzard looking for any dead meat. The administration especially the President is damned if they do and damned if they don't. My original point was simply the dems are using this national crisis to their own selfish benefit and that is a disgrace.

Guys, I'll leave this for you to help with your assessment. Perhaps it's already been posted, and if so, my apologies.

I'm certain I couldn't explain it better, and we are way behind the curve.

Please don't wait until you're hit over the head with this. If not for your sake, the sake of others.

In fact, in Italy, if you break quarantine and cause a person's death, you can be charged with murder. Rightly so...

Several things going on at once, all bad for freedom loving people.

First is an international effort to oust Trump, and why not? He has kicked over their lemonade stand where US taxpayers paid Europe's security bill and more. He has forced China and Europe into trade deals better for Americans. He stands proud boasting of America and promoting her interests.

Second is the markets were at all time highs so short sellers are making a killing, killing our markets. The public is buying stock on sale but the negative sellers are still taking actions to keep downward momentum going.

Not saying the seed of this was intentionally started but once it was loose they certainly are capitalizing on it.

When Obama had a similar issue the press worked overtime to minimize fear in the public, the exact opposite of what they are doing now.

Not sure the definition of quarantine, but people have the right to fend for themselves.
