The "virus" What are your thoughts

It won`t infect the marine life , so party on and have a good time.
The people have lost their minds . they are out of control, buying up useless items , hoarding food, toilet paper, sanitizer. Those people must be pooping a lot from the stress of worrying if there going to die, starve to death or poop themselves to death.
Look, it`s a bit worse than the Flu and if your in reasonably good health with good habits you will get it, get antibodies and get over it.
Some with compromised systems will die, it`s inevitable . The homeless in most cities will die off, inevitable , the very sick or elderly may also die off.
You go running around like crazies means you will also die just from the stress you are putting yourself thru..
The world is not coming to the end, Chicken Little`s

Speaking now as someone who is older and on immunosuppressive medication to prevent the rejection of a transplant, I find it unfortunate that callous don’t give a shit about anyone else dickheads aren’t at risk.

Go back to the start of this thread and read the first few pages. I wonder if those posters have changed their minds. About 2 months to prepare for the inevitable, Covid-19 speading across the country. Interesting how the posts have changed most have stopped laughing.

In reading through all this, and all jokes aside. . . . Here is a very good report I came across from a member of the Maryland General Assembly. It is very informative reading and explains things very well. Maryland has taken a very offensive approach in the attempt to slow or halt the spread, and after reading this report - rightfully so. Kudos to Gov Hogan and his team.

I think the lines at the stores are just people preparing for a hurricane, except the entire country is trying to prepare at once, and the storm track and intensity is really unknown.

Some people think its going miss them or that it is going to fizzle out, like it has with every other storm in our lifetime. Some people have prepared before and know what steps to take. Some people think it will blow over and so all they need is a.case.of beer and some beer jerky from the gas station. Some people really don't know what to expect or how to prepare, so they reach for everything they can find. And some people are scared and panicking.

You see the same behaviors at a micro level in advance of a storm. Schools close, activities are cancelled, people stay home.

The storm is going to come through. For several reasons we don't have good radar to really know how strong it will be or how long it will last. It will hit some areas and miss many others. It has passed through China and they are starting to see the daylight and are getting back to work.

Turn off the TV. Enjoy a little time at home with family. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Take smart steps so that if it hits your area you aren't aren't standing outside in flying debris.

And most important, be cool to each other. Give people space to deal with it. Internet arguments aren't going to make you happier. Things always work out better when we aren't dicks to each other.

Federal Funding to combat the pandemic -
  • Executive branch (Pres. Trump) requests $2B at the onset of the issue and begins to control foreign entry into the US.
  • Sen. Schumer erects in front of the senate and the press then potentates that the executive branch are a bunch of idiots and really need $8B; Oh, and by the way Pence is unqualified to manage the situation and Trump is a racist.. Rep. Pelosi mirrors the comments.
  • The House (Rep. Pelosi) puts forward an $8B (Hmmm coincidence?) bill that is filled with unrelated earmarks to further the Dem's addenda.
  • The Senate passes the bill on to the executive branch knowing the press will crucify if they challenge (this is an election year BTW).
  • Trump veto's the bill stating it's filled with items unrelated to the virus outbreak; back to the showers children.
  • The executive branch is poised to invoke Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act and eliminate the need to obtain funding through normal channels.
These are the democrat representatives in true form; do they really have any interest in the emerging situation?

I walked out of a Costco yesterday after filling a cart of booze...wine ...steaks ...just a regular visit :)... The lines were in every aisle including the entrance aisle from the cash registers to the meat counter at the back of the store... I left the cart and the store..
Problem was I needed most of that stuff...went to Meier tonight at 7:00 to get the same stuff... same thing lines back about a third of the store... but this time I had time for this nonsense.
As you made your way up towards the register you passed countless carts abounded like I did in Costco...
We are going a bit crazy...
I’m meeting a buddy today at Sams (not a member) to pick up two group 31 AGMs before the sale ends. Hopefully the auto department is separated from regular shoppers like Costco, so I can get in and out.

All good and valid points. But considering the markets globally tanked on the heels of the President’s words and actions yesterday suggests there is more than enough blame to go around for poor handling of the situation.

And there’s the other problem. Morons coming out of the woodwork criticizing and casting blame and aspersions at the leadership.

Instead of criticizing and blaming why don’t you actually do something to help?

Oh that’s right... it’s an election year and you hate the POTUS and that’s more important.
My bad.

This may help some folks.

Or the way the press is twisting the entire debacle? Regardless, good point but I was addressing the funding story...

Human nature:
Its a source for humor when no one you know is affected.
It's a pandemic when your neighbor is affected.
It's a epidemic when your family is affected.

Swine Flu had 60,000,000 U.S. cases with 300,000 hospitalizations. Media and the Republicans were mostly silent on criticizing the Obama administration. You know why - cuzz it's the friggin' flu! My how things have changed.

That argument works only to a certain point. Yesterday the market was tanked hours before it opened on the reaction from markets in Asia and Europe to the administration’s containment plans. No matter how you spin it, the President reversed course with his address. Going from it’s nots so bad, to time to close the borders.

The press by its very existence does have its own influence, but that’s human nature. Just look when bad weather be it a hurricane, or blizzard is forecasted.

I don't understand why Trump is still blaming Obama for stuff. Well I do, but it seems unreasonable to still blame Obama 3 years into Trump's term.

The specific example is that Trump is blaming Obama for the supposedly poor state of the CDC due to "decades" of neglect and a red tape "Obama-rule" that has been hampering the testing process.

Obama wasn't in office for decades. The specific rule wasn't mentioned. I mean, c'mon. Blaming Obama this far along into his term seems weak to me. He's been in office 3 years and and had both means an opportunity to change things at the CDC if there was a problem.

I don't know if what Trump's saying is correct - or not. That's part of the issue. I find so much of what he says to be not credible. In times of crisis it's so important for leadership to be credible. While a very limited view, the markets did NOT like what he said or how it made his in his evening address, witnessed by the fact they tumbled further the next morning.

I somewhat agree with your statement Brad. It is weak, especially this far into his term to mention Obama. There are also responsibilities at the State level because they are closer to the communities. To see State officials blame the President is weak as well. However, how does one prepare for an isolated strain of a virus - a pandemic no less? When elected in 2016, what did the CDC bring to him as far as asking for resources for 2019/2020 Wuhan Virus? I know it's rhetorical.

Now we have a congress who wants to keep the borders open, and is fighting Trumps EU travel moratorium. So I'm not sure what congress is trying to achieve as well.
