The Turtle goes south

Here's a post I made back in 2008:

After speaking with the 'owner' of wolverine, based on where I live and what my expectations were, I bought and installed the 250W heaters...one for each pan. They keep the ER around 45 def F during times of ambient low 20's deg F.....keep in mind, that I winter in the water, so I don't have ambient temps all around the hull. The hull is sitting in water that is always (hopefully) above 32 def F.

It will definitely extend your late season boating and get you in the water earlier in the spring. I don't know that I would eliminate the total winterization process if you don't have constant access to the boat with the 250W units. But I will tell you that they keep the oil pan hot and the oil is constantly warm.....

Oh and if anyone wants to try a tasty after dinner drink, Dom turned us onto this Patron Tequila Coffee liqueur. mmmmm

I guess that means you've abandoned this as an heat source...

...BTW Mike, I also have a 750W BoatSafe bilge heater. I won't be using it this year. If you want, stop by on your way down to visit Gitana and you can borrow it for this season until you make a more permanent decision.

Pheuu....Thanks for getting me off the hook, Dom. Looks like Mike can do fine just with your boatsafe heater .

He did it to you too? Dom and his friends turned us on to the Patron during last AC Rendezvous. Very good stuff.

right up there with your CO2 alarms.

And btw... the chicken last night was excellent (along with the strawberry cheesecake) but the salad lettuce was a little limp.

Tell them when ya fill out the service letter, can't help ya on that one, I'm just a piss-ant!!

When ya gonna bring that Big Ass Bridge Boat to Fl?? I wanna see how the big boys play!! :)

I don't have any rusting problems on my engines, and don't have any heaters, but have three 110V humidifiers, 2 in cabin and 1 in the cockpit, running 24-seven. :)
Mine sits on trailer in backyard in the sun and warms up the bilge during day then when we have extreme cold at night, I noticed condensation on different spots of the engines and generator. With the heaters set on low I don't get the condensation. I pay very close attention to the "small things"!

You don't hang out in the bilge do you Donnie???
When needed!

We just moved our new-to-us 2000 Sea Ray 460 from Baltimore, Maryland to its new home on Sint Maarten, N.A. The first 1100 miles was down the ICW to Fort Lauderdale (1.5 g/mile at 17-20 knots). Then the boat was taken by DockWise to St. Thomas, USVI. We picked up the boat there and motored to Sint Maarten in 6 ft seas. The entire trip was uneventful except for a two day delay of arrival in St. Thomas caused by T.S. Sean. The boat worked without problem the entire trip.
