Then on to the cutlas bearing replacement. The special press I bought made quick work of the project.
First out with the old

Dom, you're good!!! it is the port and my dyslexia is surfacing.

Pete. It's a hydraulic press that pushes out the bearing around the shaft.

Ya'll are too funny.
I'm waiting on Peters anouncement. He's going to but extra 1000 gal tanks on the back deck and drive that beauty over here.

Pat

Did you decide against the swim platform? It's a nice piece of teak but seems to be the wrong shape (a little too curved) for the back of that boat.

Any new ideas on tankage?

Let me know if you need any pictures, I'm put away for the winter but in indoor heated so I can work on her. Current PITA is getting the wiring through the radar arch for the radar.

Good to see progress, that is such a huge project and you seem to be burning though it like it's a oil change.

I will tow this boat behind me...

Skip,
I did dump the swim platform I had. I'm still going teak, just not that teak. No ideas yet on tanks. I was focused on geting out of the yard as fast as I could. My thoughts are to use the tanks from the EC and relocate the gen and holding tanks. If I do this I'll be able to convert the current DA tanks to holding and fresh water. Then I'd have about 250g fuel, 175G of water and 50G of lumpy water. Option two is to just add the EC tanks and have 420 ish gal of fuel, 50G H2O, and something for a holding tank around 15G. That will all come together after the repower/diesel conversion.

I'm in, I'm not sinking quickly, I can achieve trawler speeds on both engines.
Damn what a few days, more to follow including pictures.

Sounds great expect for the not sinking quickly part, make sure that the bilge pump is working

Looking forward to the pictures.

Were all good there Chuck. I have 120v sump pump in place with a float switch atached. Thanks

I thought I'd take a diversion from my own thread for a shameless plug. This will sort of explain why I'm doing this project that most would sacrifice to the chain saw. I'm going to spend some more time with her this afternoon after I close the store. I'll have more pics up tonight.

I wondered about what you did in the boating indutry - it was obvious you were in the industry SOMEWHERE because you basically have no fear whatsoever getting into what I consider one of the biggest projects I've ever witnessed. It was either that or you were just plain nuts and rich :smt001

What I'd like to know is what you plan on doing with this boat? Seems like with the Yanmars and extra fuel capacity, your range will let you go a lot more places than everybody else.

My 340 is jealous. She never goes far from her slip.

S

(Lake Huron's North Channel will be my next major trip... when I can afford the fuel :smt009 )

OH.. and I had a question for you...

When I start my engines, I have top pump the snot out out of the throttles to get her to fire up and then it takes forever to get them to idle, which says one thing to me - chokes. I have no idea what Mercruiser does for richening the mixture on these 7.4's...

Are your engines difficult to start?

S

Skip,

You profile gives us no information and you do not show year or model in your signature, but if you have older 7.4's there is a simple reason you have a cold start problem.......and the fix is just as simple.

Where'd my signature go? Weird. Had all my details in it :smt017

I have a 1988 340 Sundancer with 7.4's, basically the same boat as Pat's but needs a lot less work )

Thanks for your help
