The restoration of Never Monday, 1989 340DA updated 08/29/07

I am curious about how thick your fiberglass is where the hole resides.... I am always told that the glass in the SR hull is very solid and thick, but no one could ever tell me "how thick...." This might be the perfect opportunity, albeit at your expense.... :smt089

No expense too small.

the hull sides are about 1" thick. the bottom I'd guess is between 3/8-1/2" thick and not cored.

Sorry to hear about the new leak but it looks like you have found it :smt038 Hope to see it in the water again real soon.

Pat do you have any pictures of the fuel tanks and fuel lines. I am thinking of replacing mine and am wondering how big at task it is.

Hello Pat,

I got my 360DA with the Yanmar's!!!
These engines are really top off the bill.
Very smooth running , no smoke, no vibrations and we can conversate at 31 knots!!

I had a 1990 330DA before with 5.7 mercruisers, and when you where at full speed you could see the fuel meters moving.

These yanmar's are using 34 GPH at 3800RPM 31+ knots.

I already had an good impression on the test ride , but now that I own this boat for 1,5 week and 12 running hour's I am very happy!

Succes with your project

Regards Peter

WE tried to get the port engine running today. No luck, I have to have the carb rebuilt. It was pouring gas out of every orfice. The engine did hit on one or two cylinders then would die. Should paint tommorow if the weather holds out. Resplash is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Looks like a professional repair Pat!

Hope you have more luck on your second resplash Friday.

What are you going to do next when that's ok?

Did you make a schedule or planning for the total project?

Peter

The general flow of the restoration will follow something like this.

Spalsh
Engine systems
Cabin floors
Cabinetry
Carpet, hull liner, head liner, cushions
Electrical
Plumbing
Exterior, next spring/summer
Generator - gas for now
Yanmar's - 2-3 years $$$ dependant.
Diesel generator
Increase fuel capacity

Peter,
There is not a genset in the boat. It'll be 2-3 years before I'll let myself spend the money for the LP's $40K for the set. I have to have a certin level of comfort for my wife. I'm a Westerbeke dealer, so I'll find a core and rebuild it to use. When I open the checkbook for the LP's I'll aquire a diesel gen then. I have to see what will fit after the repower. I'm more concerned with tankage than a big generator. My current thinking is most of the boat will be built with a heavy demand on 12V and propane for the galley. I'm hoping to only use a small genset for HVAC and the water heater if necessary.

He Pat,

Yust to give you a idee how it looks in your 340....

Another question,

If you build the Yanmars in your boat, how do you make your exhaust system?
Because you see this in the photo above, there are underwater exhaust pipes....

And progress??

Splashed again?

Peter

Peter,
My 340 has 5" outlets at the water line.
No news, I have a few other things to do before splashing on Monday or tuesday. I'm waiting on the port carb to be rebuilt so I have both engines.

That picture is killing me. I can't wait untill I get it done.

YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

(does the happy dance) I have TWO engines running!!!!!!!! :smt038

Still have to do the impellers tonight and get another battery. BUt heck they both will run and idle.
Let's see, glass is done, paint is on, have to replace the cutalss bearings in the morning, change impellers, get another battery, rinse the deck, and bed one dang bolt from the swim platform.
Splash is on the books and scheduled for Wed at 09:30. More pics to follow.

Pat

Pics...pics...we need PICS.....

Congrats on the progess......must be nice to live in the warm climate where you are still talking about launching whilst us northern's are out at the boat stores loading up on antifreeze and coverin' up... :smt089

Ok congrats Pat!!

Are they running ok?
I think you only can test this when splashed again.

But really good news, otherwise you had to buy your Yanmar's earlier.....

Ok see we see the photo's

Peter

Dom,
When you get the new boat you'll have to do the migration. Winter in FL and sumer in NJ. Here's a pic for you

Peter,
I can run them on land. I have. It takes a suction cup device placed over the water intake and a good pump.

Heres todays picture
