The REAL WAR we are fighting (and losing)

...This constant sniping at every junction by a few childish bullies is really getting out of hand and IMHO should be condemned by the CSR community, not encouraged.

Sorry Pack, but you reap what you sow. You parachute into this forum in August and then within a month or so start posting bolshevic bile like what is contained in this thread and expect a group hug? In case you hadn't noticed, you can count the number people in this forum that share your beliefs on one hand at best. Basically the only major thing you have in common with the rest of us, is the brand of your boat. If you had maintained a much lower profile for a couple of months to gain acceptance and respect before dropping political bombs, you might have had an easier time. This a boating forum not a political blog. As a new boater you need to gain knowledge so I suggest you use this forum as an advisory service instead of a political soap box. You are not going to change anyone's political beliefs here so quit trying and get on with boating.

BUT. . the point I raised early is just like not everyone can be a rock star; not everyone can open a business and hire 1000 people.

Hence, we see the crux of the problem...

This is the mindset that is at the root of all liberal philosophies. Everyone is a victim, downtrodden, or a loser. We gotta help these poor slobs out. Part of their solution is tearing down the folks that break out of this mold in order to make the folks that fit the mold feel better.

The system that I support understands that everyone can in fact be a rock star if they put their mind to it and work hard. Intelligent, self sufficient, hard working people are the norm, and the downtrodden are the exceptions. Fix the exceptions without breaking the norm. There are no "losers" at birth. Folks get that way by making a series of bad decisions. The first one is usually becoming a Democrat. <ducking for cover>

I have read through this thread and its appalling. The total lack decency, and civility is shocking. I think its shameful and cowardly the way many of the people on this board use their "internet anonymity" to say things and make accusations that they would never dare say to my face.

I have met some very nice people on this board and I have been helped with boating issues by many members. That part of the board is wonderful. This constant sniping at every junction by a few childish bullies is really getting out of hand and IMHO should be condemned by the CSR community, not encouraged.

Uhhh...excuse me, but you took a fringe position, were called out on it and have done a p*** poor job of defending it. Your opening post basically said that most of us were uniformed (at best) or more likely stupid-then gave us a video of the poster child for economic lunacy as your intellectual support. C'mon Pack, what do you expect? Yeah there were some shots, but some pretty good points were raised and you haven't provided any responses (the point that leaps to mind is "Which society that operates similar to your theory would you have us pattern ourselves after? or something along those lines...great question...no answer). Now you want some big brother/moderator to jump in under what...some sort of SeaRay owner "fairness doctrine"? Get a pair.

Perhaps you haven't done this whole "online forum" thing much, but I thought the responses were actually pretty tame (look at the poor guys with generators strapped to their boats <g>). I suspect I would be treated similarly if I went into your neighborhood and dissed tofu or Priuses or confiscatory taxation. We get that you were probably brought up believing this drivel, and your neighbors think so too...its OK. No one cares if you are a socialist whackjob (and no one would have asked), you are a fellow SeaRay boater...just understand that the overwhelming number of boaters are capitalists and individualists and a fair number of them are pretty bright and successful. If you can't defend your positions (regardless of the forum), perhaps a better policy if you really believe that stuff is "Don't Ask Don't Tell".

I still thought Nevada had a remarkable season and deserves major credit! How cool to be part of that season...

The irony is that Pack called someone else a Jackwad and it was OK. But when I used his own term against him, he spews forth crap about name calling, etc etc.. Definitely a liberal victim mentality.... This guy is a real piece of work.....

You started this thread but you can't take the heat?

I don't think anyone is hiding behind "internet anonymity" -- almost all of the posters are regulars and well known in these parts and many, if not not most, know each other outside of the forums and any of us would gladly say these things to your face.

There is no way to win these arguments but I will say this from experience:

I am a business owner and I find it insulting and appalling that you and those like you would say that I am motivated by greed. You don't know me. You don't know my personal situation. You don't know the hills that I've climbed. The battles that I've lost. The battles that I've won. My motivation is to feed my family and the families of those that depend on me. If I become rich doing this --- how in the h*** does that affect you?

This thread is interesting. I think there is unanimous agreement that our country is in trouble. We all know something isn't right, we all know something should be done, we all know if we don't do something the problems will get bigger and we definitely won't like it, but...we are unable to sit down together and have productive discussions on the subject. This is exactly what our boys in Washington are doing every fckin day. Don't take my use of the word "change" the wrong way but if something doesn't change the collective asses of the USA will be kissed goodbye along with the American Way.

Don't ask me for the solutions, I been thinking about that for years and haven't come to any good conclusions other than I am probably not smart enough to figure it out.

Our country is not in trouble. People tend to see the world through there own narrow lens. These political battles have been going on forever and they will continue. Rome is not burning and we are fine. The world is always changing and change isn't automatically bad.

I agree with you Woody to some extent.

From my oberservations, this is how threads seem to progress when started by the OP.

A) A provocative statement or post of some kind is made.

B) Others, such as myself in some cases, come out and ask reasonable questions to understand why the original post was made and why he believes certain things or to backup what he has posted.

C) The OP replys simply calling the questions- talking points, crap, or whatever- further trying to cement his position without offering any real supporting information.

D) Some others then get irritated by the continued postings described in A and C without any factual backup. Then heated posts begin.

E) The OP fires back.

F) The back and forth goes on a bit then the OP accuses everyone of being disgusting and unable to carry on a civil debate and leaves the thread, or at least stops posting in it.

G) Posts such as this continue for a couple days discussing the "aftermath" of the thread.

There were several reasonable questions asked in this very thread. I say if you can't or refuse to defend your position don't get upset when some take it personal.

Initially, I felt bad when I saw the OP's Christmas thread getting barged in on because I really liked the pics he posted and thought it would have been a good thread to keep going in theme. At that time I had not been in the Holding Tank for a few days and did not realize some of the things that were going on.

I am open to conversation and enjoy civil debate but a 2-way conversation is more than just a statement being thrown out and defended with no additional facts or real opinions.

Just my 2 cents.

OMG!
An actual rational, thoughtful post in CSR's holding tank.

Your point is made and well illustrated.

I think this misses the point I was trying to make. Everyone CAN be a rockstar, but not everyone WILL. Working hard and putting your mind to it are necessary, not sufficient, conditions.

The problem is that with everything moving offshore, it is increasingly looking like if you don't become a rockstar or CEO. . you are hosed. (yes. . yes. . this is an exaggeration)
