The new 330 Sundancer is here!

Actually it started with the introduction of the 290 2 years ago,

You are so correct. I forgot about the new 290, probably because I've never seen one outside of the showroom, you know - on the water.

Yes it is. It appears to me there are some things that are nice - but the new mid size Sea Ray's are a little to Focus Group Designed.

Scott

I agree Scott ... every new Sea Ray dancer in the sub-340 sizes is to me a huge step back in what I use the boat for ... BOATING ... too much fancy shmanzy and less utility ... a trend that started with the new 340 ... :smt009

Yeah...Why let the past and current owners say what they like or don't like about a boat. How dare them.

Hey.............Bayliners haven't changed much over the years. Just very basic boats without a lot of frills and no focus groups. Oh wait, we are talking about Sea Rays. :smt043

Oops sorry ... I must have missed that only current owners are allowed to voice opinion ... apologize and will back readily out of this thread to make room for positive pontification ..

Alex,

I think Bridog was referring to focused groups being current and past owners...not this posting.

Ooops ... I think the heat is getting to me ... can ya'll see the egg all over my face now

What I was referring to is Marketing is driving a lot of the things going on Sea Ray. But I don't hear of too many people on this board being invited to this focus group studies. The service studies are all bought and paid for.

In my opinion and if they asked me - QC has gotten sloppy at Sea Ray and MM is not what my old dealer - Port Arrowhead was when it came to service.

When I bought my 320 - I knew the 330 would look very much like the 330. Which I think is a nice looking boat, I just preferred the 320 for a few reasons, price was a factor in that. I just think sometimes they are trying to please too many people.

Update: I spoke with Sea Ray web support on Friday. The entire 2008 lineup website is in test and QA right now and will go to staging then production no later than the end of August. There are a copuple boats that don't have the final photo sets complete but will be done soon. They assure me all the new models will be on the new site similar to how it was handled last year with the 2006/2007 site.

The forward berth is stationary but the back part of it is mechanically actuated and goes up so you can watch TV or read better.

I'm not sure this is correct, unless I mis-read your post. When actuated, the aft portion of the berth slides forward to open up room in the salon, and the back of the berth tilts up to about 45 degrees.

I've been on a new 330, Hampton describes it correctly. The aft section slides forward as the bows ection tilts up. There is a wired remote control. My guess is the foot of the bed moves 8".

I am interested in this model as well, i currently have a 2005 270 AJ but want to get into more cruising.

My biggest thought is that much of it is a matter of taste. The new boats have some great features, but they don't meet my taste.

I like the comment someone made about the new 290 and not seeing on on the water.
I have seen plenty at the dealer and none on the water. I'll bet you can get a great deal on a brand new one.
Just my humble opinion but that 290 is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. the front half looks like one boat and the back half looks like another (that is also sinking)

Maybe it is just me, but I don't get the new look. Now it looks like they are going to carry it through the whole line. A 480 in "all white" can get away with it. On the smaller ones, it freaks me out.

I don't think boating people are designing these. The interiors of the newer boats are soooo much better than the older ones but the outside.......

I think they have lost their minds..

My inlaws just came back from the NY boat show... they couldnt get over what POS the 29 was ..... so now just to piss me off there looking at a monteray.....

Was it just looks/styling they didn't like or did they see quality issues? If seen some poor quality new SR, poor enough that I pointed it out to the dealers and asked them if they thought displaying it was a good thing. In fairness 2 of my 3 new boats were pretty good. I guess thats nothing for SR to brag about though.

That's just, not nice. For $140,000, what were they expecting in a 31' boat (Let's face it, they never sell for MSRP)? I got mine new for a fair amount less than that and I'm pretty impressed in the quality and value. I'm proud of that boat and my ability to own it. There are a lot of boats of lesser cost, scale and quality than the 290DA, but I would never call an owner's boat a POS. If it floats, moves you from point A to B under power, and gets you safely back to point A, then you have my respect.

By the way, I think the 440DA is the nicest boat in the line-up. That's the one I'd get if price was not an issue. For now, I'll enjoy every minute on the 290. Maybe one day, Ill move up, but when that day comes, I'll be very nostalgic about the 290. Unless, of course, I find it is a POS through ownership.
