jg300da - It seems we are in an economy where some have an unlimited amount of discretionary income by using their credit cards.

Hampton - I tried to send you a p.m. but I'm not sure it went through, hope it did.

Others - My thought was that it is wise to downsize than to try and maintain the current situation on a credit card in the long run. :smt024

i'll be totally honest, in many ways, i am envious of the "downsizer." gone are the days of 30GPH fuel burn, winterizing two of everything (a/c, engines, multiple sinks, genny), replacing EVERYTHING on TWO engines, waxing 10,000 square feet of fiberglass over a span of 3 days, dropping 400 smackers at the gas dock, paying some grouchy crab-ass marina owner $120 to powerwash my bottom (b/c they dont allow me to do it myself), inability to just hop in the boat and head out to explore small canals and lagoons.

dont get me wrong. my wife would read this and say "who are you kidding - you LOVE all this crap!" and that's very true, but there are pros and cons to everything. i WILL tell you this - my next boat will, in all liklihood, be smaller. it will DEFINITELY NOT be any larger. so dont feel bad. accentuate the positives!

rondds, The arguement you make is why I don't move up, However, in my dreams I can imagine myself on the bridge of a spanking new 44 sedan bridge like prodigalson's.

As the veteran of many differing boating environs (see my post on the topic of "strangest boating experience" under Lifestyle and Cruising) all I can say is that it's better to be on the water on a 19' Glaspar, a sinking Ulrichsen, etc. than not at all.

As stated earlier, those who boat are for some reason a different breed, I'm happy, proud and blessed to be among them (see also Wesley's post entitled "Discover Boating Video" in General Discussion).

Good luck with the new boat!

The whole "bigger is better" attitude is for people who have a lack of self-esteem, or are defined by the dollar figure attached to their possessions.
Paul

Oh.

"Oh" what???? I'm referring to the people out there who are defined by thier possessions. They are what they OWN.

Anyhow, are you implying that I'm wrong? Is bigger ALWAYS better, even when you can't afford it or don't need it?

Nope.......

I see......

Y'know, I've been getting the impression that this board is geared more towards the bigger boats, and the above comments have pretty much confirmed that feeling.

At this point I feel I should bow out and find a place where I can learn about boats without being made to feel like I don't belong because all I own is a "little" bowrider.

And to those of you who found offense in my comment, is it maybe, just maybe possible that it stings a wee bit because it's true???? Hmmmmmmmmm..........

Over and out.

You're the one who referred to your boat as "lowly".
Ease up man, all boats are fun. Heck the most fun I've had on the water is on a waverunner.

Huh? Paul, seriously... There are quite a few of us here that have smaller boats and nobody here has ever made me feel anything but welcome. To be honest, I really didn't even get where your original comment was coming from. I really think you must have misunderstood something...

Chillax.

Boating is communal and friendly. Mostly, the people are great. Every now and then, one comes in and kicks the chairs around for no apparent reason.

Even they get it eventually.

C'mon guys... let's not get all "Boat US" over this.

Meaning let's not start flaming each other...

Peace, out!

Paul, this board has always been about helping fellow boaters and specificly fellow Sea Ray owners. I don't think any one has ever refused to help someone because they have a 176 bow rider or 60DA. :smt024 Lighten up...your part of the family.

And as your friendly neighborhood deputy....check your ego's at the door gent's, kick back and relax a while. :smt043

I have received a few emails from folks about this thread. I don't see the big deal...190 comes in here and bashes anybody with a boat bigger than his, the consensus handles it well, then he throws a few more jabs out...and here we are. I actually own a 23' boat and have never been made to feel unwelcome so I really don't know where his feelings are coming from. To many, his 19' boat is a yacht and there are people that have feelings towards him that he has towards people with bigger boats. If every boater had the same income then I would understand his point that a person with a bigger boat needs to look at their checkbook before filling up, but we all have different income levels. I could go on for hours about how rediculous the statement is that every boater should have a 19' boat  but where would that get us. If anybody with a bigger boat wants to swap boats and checkbooks let me know, I promise to keep it real clean.

Huh??? :smt017

I was bashing? Throwing jabs? Since when is telling it like it is a bad thing? And now you're gonna deep six the thread?

C'mon. All I said was that downsizing is not necessarily a bad thing, and that you can still have fun in a small boat, especially when you take a look at the economics of running something smaller. I also discussed that fact that a lot of people have a need "bigger" things, be it trucks, houses or boats. Is that not true? ALL of us know people like that, and the "oh" comments really struck a nerve with me. If people can't read into what "oh" really meant, please take a close look.

We live in a day and age where average people like me are able to enjoy things that our parents were NEVER able to afford, like boating. We also live in a day and age where there is a lot of pressure to "go big or go home", and I for one hate that train of thought. Do what's right for you, and enjoy it for what it is.

Anyhow, I've obviously pissed a bunch of you off. That was never my intention, but the resulting tension and certain comments my observations have brought forth makes me realize that I should say goodbye, and carry on somewhere else.

Take care, and happy boating. :smt001

Paul

don't cave to the peer pressure. boating people are the friendliest around.

and, frankly, i don't consider my boat a "bigger" boat. it's the right boat for my family at this time. the are some shorter, and there are some longer, but there are few less valuable to their owners.
