The big old 80's 340 owners thread

Do you mean #27 below?? Part #89-96054T "(I always get "solenoid" and "solenoid slave" confused)...

Hi Ron,

Yes, that is the guy I'm looking for!

By the way - I love that picture!

Thanks North. That part is available anywhere. I'd suggest you buy a Sierra and save yourself $20. It's the same stupid part in my lawn tractor.

And thx for liking the picture. My buddy Rick took it. Pulitzer Prize winner, I say!

Part number for the slave on my model year is 89-96054T. I would assume they are probably the same part. They arn't expensive, like $25. I replaced mine along with everything else just to be on the safe side.

I had one die during the seatrial of this boat, and the other one died a month and a half later. Prob worth it to change both and eliminate an unknown.

I've got 3 on the way ($17 at boats.net) - I'll replace 'em both and have a spare. Thanks for the info guys!

Mark,

I just got done reading the thread about your sliding cabin door rebuild - wow. The DA door has some issues but nothing like that. Really nice work.

BTW Below your avatar, you have always had, the 'help' smiley :)smt100) next to the 6.5 quicksilver genny text. I have the same genny - Is there something I should know??? (besides the fact that mine runs really rich)

I asked this in a thread but got little response
I am looking at an 85 340 dancer
it has approx 750hrs on 454 crusaders
all the toys including a gennie
are there any issues that the 1985 has that I should look for
I have researched later models (87-89) and know most of the things to look for
but didn't know if there were issues on the earlier ones they worked out later ??

it's been on the hard in covered storage for 2 1/2 years

Greetings Jim,

Not a comment to the 85' but, the 340 that I picked up sat for about the same amount of time and looking back I would have taken one day to change all the fuel filters and rebuild the carbs. It would have saved me a lot of grief.

How do you access the fresh water tank?
My 340 ec is an '87 with the tank on the port side under the settee.
I have found water collecting under the cabin steps and I'm sure I have a leaking water tank. I would like to access the water tank to inspect for leaks and remove, repair if need be. The PO had put in new carpet and it may be glued to the cabin floor. After I remove the settee seats, table pedistal sockets and carpet, what will I find? Is there an access cover to the tanks or will I have to cut the floor? Has anybody done this and do you have any advice and/or pictures.

Hey Giff.....before you tear up your floor, I would be curious to see if water gets back in under your stairs after a heavy rain storm? I had an issue with the old caulking around the port and starboard windows and rain water was running down the backside and pooling under the stairs. Food for thought.

Just found site, restoring my '86 340 express, had severe TBI and neglected boat for 5 years. Need to find "heat exchagers" someone removed them while in drydock in Crisifield, Md. Any clue how to fine them?

Hey guys, here's some more before pictures. I've spent the last five days in the bilge of our new 340 :smt021. I stopped all the leaks but one and I need to have her hauled for that one. No worries though since it's a pretty small leak; just one of those things I don't want to let get away from me. I completely serviced both engines except the raw water pumps. After cleaning the strainers and the heat exchangers the engines run much cooler. Imagine that! I did remove the exhaust log on the Starboard engine, but was able to tighten the port packing without removing it.

The TDX system in the 340 is a major problem for me. In California and the Northern California Sea Ray Boat Club overboard discharge is NOT acceptable and with only a 9 gal holding tank capacity, we have a serious problem. I guess in 1989, Sea Ray figured why not save space and treat/discharge. The good thing is there is enough space for a suitable size holding tank. So, I started a conversion project to remove the TDX system and convert to a 35 gal holding tank. That should be enough for a week on the hook.

This is the before pictures. The new tank install should be this Thursday and Friday.

Sounds like a Shi11y job Robert!

Hey Rob,

1st she looks great... I love the classic lines and all the room in these old gals...

Not to crap on dreams but here's some food for thought....

I have the vacuflush system like you but only have an 18gal tank. I empty my tank on average every 5 weeks. That is two people using the system every weekend. As well as occasional guest... when the 18gal tank gets full you will notice a list to the starboard side.

The other thing is if you don't have install the Dometic tank monitor system. You will have the tank out now is the time. You will thank me when you're done!

Just wanted to give you the heads up. LoL....

I work at a sewer plant so I'm used to foul odors, but DANG. The smell was really bad, but I will have a new non-stinky holding tank so it's worth it.

With any luck, I have the tank and the canvas done in time for the Circle Cruise.

I am not concerned about the canvas as you can hang with us. The head though....you need that working unless you are on the other side of the circle lol!

Thanks Ken

We love hanging on Plan B! Cool drinks, good food, and great friends! That's what it's all about!

Greetings,

The admiral and I spent the weekend on the boat and woke to a very cold cabin. It was still pretty warm when we went to sleep so the AC
was cranked up and was still on when we woke up. We got up and spun the thermostat the other way and got heat.

The only problem is the air that was blowing out was incredibly humid. Everything in the cabin was covered in condensation almost immediately.
I was not sure if something was going horribly wrong so we shut it down. This was the first and only time I've had the heat on. The AC has worked
great all summer.

Has anybody bumped into something like this before???
