my boat is at the shop having the bottom acid washed.
stop by my slip and notice my slip neighbor has taken my ropes to secure his/her boat.
needless to say, i took my ropes back.
seriously?

Man, that is nuts...you guys live in some pizz poor neighborhoods. My lines stayed at the dock the full two weeks my boat was out and were unmolested. Actually I take that back, one of my lines fell in the water, and someone on my pier retrieved it from the water and re-secured it.
You should let him keep the ropes and get some lines for your boat.
Wow. Not sure what I would do there (besides taking my lines back). Although, the way mine are secured, it would take someone 10-15 minutes per line to get them loose, so I'm not overly worried about it either. Got to be some way to let him know that taking your stuff is not acceptable. Marina management perhaps?
My problem is the water hose. I can't leave the sprayer on it, because it always disappears. And I don't mind other people using my hose, but if they could wrap it back up the way they found it, rather than knotting and kinking it and leaving part of it in the water to get scummy, that would be dandy.
And I just know someday I'm going to come back to the slip and find another boat in it, as our slip is very near a popular bar on the lake.
The 6 lines that he has his boat tied up with are all as tight as banjo strings & all have multiple granny knots on them.
Just out of curiosity, is it considered a newbie mistake to have six lines? I have six lines (one on each corner and two spring lines), and I just thought I was being prudent...
Good to hear, I always like reading stories like this, where the good guys win! My girlfriend's car was broken into Saturday night... she unfortunately left it open (which she never does) and they hit the neighborhood. Luckily, they were looking for electronics apparently and she didn't have any in the car, they went thru all the storage locations and left them all open but didn't take anything that we could see. Even left change in the center console. I'd have loved for cops to have come by about then.Wow. One less thing to worry about here. At our marina, we all know each other and keep a constant watch on each other's belongings. No one steals anything from anyone. We have a bunch of good folks.
Last year, a couple of kids had cased the area and made a shopping list of items from the marina and the neighborhood. They came around one night to collect the booty. When they got to the marina, someone spotted a 2AM prop removal job going on and called the marina owner, who called the cop who lived across the street, who called his buddies at the station, who blocked the only route in or out of the area. They got the guys 4 hours later and returned everyone's belongings. We later found out that these guys had been hitting marinas all over Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia for at least 2 years. The local cops got credit for solving a big case.
