Sunked 185 sport

It "was" a 2007, had less than 50hr's on it. The marina finally got it up yesterday, and said water was coming out of some places underneath the swim platform! Even i could read into that....

adjuster is suppose to be coming out today to look at it. Meanwhile, i stopped in and looked at sea ray's last night.....

You do have to worry about the lifts/canopy's without a boat on it, cause they can flip in heavy wind. Usually though, they don't flip with a boat on them.

That's really sad. Sorry. I'm guessing that had a canopy that helped turn it over. I just had a lift installed Monday. They don't look good upside down.

Start negotiating now. The boat is totaled. Sorry for your loss. The storms in the midwest this year have been really hard on docks. We have had multiple large docks break loose this year.

I agree. get on the phone with the insurance and get a good price. They always try to low ball you so stick to your guns. Let's us know how it turns out.

You might be able to get it totaled and then negotiate to buy it back and fix it up... Since it is fresh water, it maybe salvagable. If you want to boat more this seasone, then you need to buy a new boat...

So the initial reaction from the adjuster was to repair the boat. New seating everywhere, new gauges, new electrical...etc. They haven't started motor yet, but they said no water in engine (stupid question...but how do they know that for sure?)

I'm a bit nervous about having the boat repaired for two reasons. 1. Everybody i talk to says sunk boats will have problems, down the road. 2. resale.

When i brought that up to insurance they of course said resale will be good, cause it's repaired.

Thoughts? Anything else I should be looking out for? I heard starters tend to go, or something like that.

I would ask for a new engine... There is no way there is no water in that engine... A new engine would cause them to rethink totaling the boat...

Of course they will tell you the resale will be good as they will save money. But would they buy it? NOT.

There IS water in the engine becuase it has an air intake, and exhust with open exhust valves, so that part is BS.

Get the money and run and buy another boat unless you are willing to put up with the issues later on.

Then again, you can suggest you want the boat sent back to the Sea Ray factory for repairs............

Honestly, that boat will never be the same without replacing everything. If you are replacing everything, why not do it with a new boat? Read your insurance policy closely and make them stick to what it says. They write them in their favor but make sure they do what the policy says they will do. Depending how long it was upside down, check with Sea Ray to determine if the water got in places where it will have long-term consequences. Don't settle.

I had a 255 Wellcraft Suncruiser that was involved in a winter flood caused by an ice flow on Lake Erie. The boat was knocked off it's stanchions and on the ground. Since the plug was out, the engine room flooded. I or should I say the insurance company replaced the engine twice and it was never the same. The boat also became a leaker, everytime it rained you got wet! The only good thing to come out of it was I finally traded it in on a Sea Ray!
GET RID OF THE BOAT!

Great advice everybody, thank you so much! I should know more by end of this week. They are calling Sea Ray dealer to get estimates on everything this week. Definitely gonna push for new engine too...
