Sundancer 300 Value?

So... are you guys ready for the real sold numbers?

1996-1998 300 Sea Ray Sundancers sold from January 2007 - Current.

13 Sold

Lowest Selling Price - 35K
Highest Selling Price - 50K

There was one that sold for $59,900 in Michigan, Looks VERY familiar.

The median price was 37K to 45K

Would like to add that the majority of these boats that sold were freshwater.

Ah well, you can't take it with you. Like I said, I certainly didn't time the market right, when I purchased the market was still very strong... Also, the boat is loaded and has performed perfectly.

They also gave me what I wanted for my trade in, so that is certainly factored in there, I was not born last night!

wow, I bought my boat about a year too early. I need to work on that timing thing a little more.

Thanks for the REAL info!

I understand what you are saying the fresh vs raw water cooling on the Great Lakes, but down here where we have two oceans to choose from I would think it would be a more significant point to make, no?

Would it be advisable to consider separating the boat and trailer, if the price is looking low? I mean hell I can keep the trailer for myself and I really don't want to just "give it away" especially considering it was over 7K new two years ago and has less than 1000 miles on it.

The only boat I own is a SeaDoo Speedster so the "big boat" world to me is different.

I would think two nearly identical boats sitting side by side, one with a trailer and one without, that you would expect to pay more to get the one with the trailer. But maybe if you are staying on a lake somewhere you don't care... in which case I will keep my trailer and sell the boat for less. Seems to me the trailer would be easier to sell alone anyway as it could be reconfigured to fit a variety of boats. Or is this a waste of time?

Personally I wouldn't separate the two just yet. Let the buyer decide if he wants the trailer or not. The trailer should help with the sale. Make sure you list 'trailer' in ad because many prospective buyers will search the keyword 'trailer' when doing a search.

As a rule, dealers and brokers use other "books" to value a used boat. The NADA book, just like in auto business, is a consumers book. Ive been through nearly 12 years of selling boats and to me, the more realistic viewpoint is to average the asking prices of boats online ie. Yachtworld/dealers and brokers and Boattraderonline/anybody,everybody. Asking prices and selling prices are obviously very different. Its hard to "steal" a really nice used boat but you can find some very good deals. In this day and age, the old rule of thumb that "if its too good to be true...." may not apply in every case. I encourage you to investigate online used boat sites, get a handle on what the market is like out there and decide if you can live within those boundaries of pricing and let it fly. Good Luck

Another source of valuing boats that may provide some insight are the BUC guides.

I think it would be best to separate the boat and trailer, that way you can get your price down to a competitive point. We sell lots of brokerage Sea Rays so I can tell you from experience - if a Sea Ray is priced right it will sell within weeks at or near its asking price. If it is priced too high it will sit unsold as it blends in with the rest of the overpriced boats. So you want to get your price as competitive as possible. So as not to exclude people wanting a trailer I would make it clear in the ad that you do have a trailer available.

Where are you located? I might have someone who is interested in the trailer. How much would you ask for it?

Some examples of what the brokerage community is reporting sold over the past 12 months include one sold in March 2008 for $50K (location Maine), another was sold back in May 2007 for $45K (location Maryland), one sold in July 2007 for $48K (location Florida) and lastly one went for $50K in Oct. 2007 (location CT). No trailers were mentioned.

I am in Alabama but I need to sell the boat BEFORE the trailer.

Thanks for all the continued input.

I ended up listing it for 57.5K and have had a fair amount of interest but am completely open to all offers, had a couple offers but they flaked for smaller or totally different boats. We'll see.
