Still Pond Raft '09

Tim,
Many thanks to you and the core crew for all you did to coordinate this event. Our family had a GREAT time and truely appreciated everyones hospitality. We look forward to catching up with you all again.

Stan, Madelynn wants to know if you'll bring ham and eggs on every raft-up?

Thanks again to all.

Joe

Channel 16 is for "International Distress, Safety and Calling. Ships required to carry radio, USCG, and most coast stations maintain a listening watch on this channel." It is OK to hail on 16. Most people on the Chesapeake monitor 16. The CG has been getting cranky about radio checks and non-hailing, non-emergency traffic, but it is definitely still OK (and preferred by local preference) to hail on 16. Channel 9 is fine, but no one is listening. OK, maybe not no one, but fewer people...

Wow...I honestly convinced myself that I had read somewhere that starting this year you were no longer allowed to use Ch 16 to initiate a call - but after googling my brains out I can only find that they are cracking down on the radio checks...MY BAD - must need to start taking some sort of a memory pill along with all my other pills.

Either way, we had a blast! I think the final count wound up being 15 once Mike snuck on the right side of the raft after Hart Miller Island. I have a cool panoramic photo of the group before he showed up:

And more photos from the trip are posted here in a slide show:

My strainer looked like someone but a bird in a blender and then shoved what was left into it with a mojito muddler! (photo provided)

Great time was had!

I'm bummed that I missed this one. We started off at HMI Saturday and left after a short while (maybe 2 hours) to go get fuel to make the run over to Still Pond. The fuel stop lead to a "short" lunch stop at the Wild Duck to feed the kids, which lead to the kids cleaning up on tips helping folks with their lines, and the admiral starting a Mojito party with the folks on the dock. I couldn't drag them away. We did have a lot of fun, and the kids were absolutely overjoyed that they made about $35 each helping people with their lines. Not too bad for an 8 and a 10 year old doing 2 hours "work".

Sunday was supposed to be the "make up" day to head over to Still Pond. No joy. We got a late start and just never got around to heading over.

Looks like I missed both major CSR events in the area this year. :smt089

Sorry I missed that!....

OK, I'll jump in here - I was going to wait to post pics, but too much to do to get back to the grindstone! Thanks to Tim for organizing the event, and to all of you for your hospitality towards a couple of Midwesterners. Our first experience as a part of a raft-up was a blast! We do love the Bay - you guys who live close enough to drive are fortunate indeed! Best wishes and safe travel to all of our new friends from Still Pond!
Kurt
