Let's plan a big juicy raft-up in Still Pond for this year!

We can cram about 10-12 boats into the cove behind the old Coast Guard spit. You can get so close to the beach...

... you can practically jump from the boat to the beach! Don't worry, the props are in eight feet of water here...

Then we can take over the spit...

and we'd have access to the beach on the other side of the spit that looks out over the open Bay...

where we will have an excellent view of the sunset!

Where I'm talking about is in the area highlighted with the yellow dot on this chart.

To claim this spot, we'll need to get there early on a Saturday morning, or even on Friday. It's a pretty popular spot, but with proper planning, we can get a bunch of boats in there. Overflow can go to either the area marked with a red dot or the area marked with a blue dot. The green dot area is accessible by dinghy only and is for tubing and skiing.

Yes, this is partially an opportunity for me to gratuitously post some of my pictures from last summer, but I'm also serious about trying to get an "official" raft-up going, Maybe pre-post BIH?

I usually hit Still Pond 3 or 4 times a season, count me in.

Hey Tim, (BRYC) did a raft off 2 years ago in the back area or red dot as you have marked it.......we had 41 boats rafted off.

I dunno, but from the picture this looks like a bridge boat thing.
Don't be silly Jim, all are welcome. A bridge is really helpful in this spot though because you get great views of the sunset over the spit from up on the bridge. Don't worry, we'll invite you up for cocktail hour.

Well, ok, I guess we can all get along, save us a spot with a view.

Tim, did you guys light that bonfire?
Todd- we did not. That "teepee" was there when we got there. Back when this spit of land was owned by the U.S. Government, we made the mistake of lighting a bonfire on the spit. The drawn guns of the coasties led us to the conclusion that the fire may have been a mistake.

The land is now owned by the county and there are no longer signs saying "Keep Off, US Government Property". That said, we do try to honor the "leave only footprints, take only memories" policy. So, no more bonfires for us!
