I thought I would show a few pics of my upgraded speakers since this seems to be a hot topic. I have a 2 Rockford amps. One independant to the Sub, and one to the JL's on the deck. the stock Clarion stereo powers the Panasonics in the foreward cabin. BTW it Rocks! The LCD is a 15' mounted on a swing arm connected to a DVD.

looks good! from you link on the other thread I took a look at the JL's. I would probably like to have the 2 way combined speakers M770-CCX 7.7". Sent email to BOE to get pricing so hopefully they will get back to me by tomorrow.

Are you Panasonics in the cabin on an amplifier? is so which one? How do they sound?

The speakers in the cabin are the stock Panasonic, they are directly to the clarion deck that has a built in amp. I have them faded way out as if someone goes below they don't have music blasting them. Those JL 7.7 are just so loud. I can only run the volume about 10-12 which has a high of 30.

Yes I have a independant 200 watt Rockford on the JL's and a 300 watt Rockford on the JL sub. These speakers have to have a independant amp of at least 200 watts. I went with Rockford just because it just has such big balls and you can can BAKE them and they just keep going. I tried several amps including that high dollar alpine line and nothing compared to the Rockford.

Kurt...great looking upgrade:thumbsup::thumbsup: Did you do the install yourself or have someone else do it? Also... LCD looks great in the cabin.

Kurt, that looks like a great install! How much did the JL run you and the amp? I am looking at going to that route without a sub. How did you fit that sub in that location...pretty clever.

I was a long thought out design by myself and install by Car-Fi of Springfield.
The Sub is actually in a closed box under the seat facing starboard. The grill you see is a JL grill painted white. It is only a port to let sound out. I have found over the years that free air or port subs just don't have the UMMMPH I am looking for and I also wanted everything to look stock.
JL 7.7 with Tweets $350
JL pro 10' $200
Rockford P300 $200
Rockford P400 $250
Install...... I will not mention
One day on the lake with your buds listening to your favorite tunes cranked......Priceless

As long as the boat next to you likes your tunes too.

We like to play ours loun when we are rafted out and hanging out on the shore..problem is so does everybody else. Turns into a stereo war and we end up shutting ours off.

Kurt, did you have to modify the cut out hole to install the new JL? Where did you mount the amp?

The amps are mounted in the cabinet next to the fridge, the sub "Port" is a 8 inch hole in the back seat with a grill covering it. the sub faces starboard. It is totally enclosed under the back seat.

If the amp is in the cabinet, where did you ground it to? and for power as well?

You have to run power and ground to the battery with 4 gauge cable. I actually added a 27 seris Interstate deep cycle that the amps run off of only. I also added a independant charger for this battery and a perko that is parallel to my battery 2 to charge while running. I turn the perko off while using the stereo so the amps do not draw off my main 2 batteries.

After a long day of stereo pounding, I simply start the boat with battery 2 then turn my Perko to the amp battery "on" then charge it up on the way back to the dock.

Finally I have a Jump box aboard at all times just in case.

My Speaker upgrade plan

3 10 inch JL Subs

1 6 channel JL amp

1 mono amp

4 jl mids

2 Jl tweeters

think that should do it

Craig

The Jl's are nice speakers, The volume issues you are having with the jl's might be able to solve by turning the gain down on the rockford that runs those. Also to WISH2FISH take a min and look into MB QUART Marine , I sell pioneer, memphis ,clarion,Kenwood , MB quart and MTX ! I love the quart products! 3 year warranty!! But I run a memphis marine on my 280, no problems and I drive them Like I stole them!! Good job KURT! Looks Good!

3 10 inch sub's seems a bit much. IS this all the speakers you will have and what will the locations be? Your boat is bigger then a car and I'd put all that in a car except only 1 sub.

what size is that mono amp I assume it's for the 3 subs but I don't know if I would do that.

A grand + :wow: Just for cranked music on the water ? I must be missing something, it seems pricey, NOT priceless.
