So here's a question for you guys... (Venting)

I hate *ANYONE* who stays in the left lane, regardless of age, gender or type of vehicle. BTW, when exactly does this 'mid-life crisis' thing kick-in? Need to know if I'm behind schedule as I'm in my early 40's. (I thought it was a 50's thing?)

I always stay in the left lane, but I have yet seen anyone who drives much faster than I do. My theory is the left lane is for passing only, and I am always actively passing :)

All kidding aside, I average about 90 in the left lane.

Then again, next weds I am going in for driver re-education for 3 tickets in 3 years. COnsidering I have been pulled over an average of about 2 times per month, that not bad.

Glad I went with the Navigator. Not fast, but OK for it's size. I've had two transmission services done, but Ford paid for the first one and I only had to pay for the second. Since there have not been any other major repairs to the truck, I'm not complaining. The R100W is cheap to rebuild, too.

Frank did you mean the 4r100? That's the same trans that's in my F250 SD.

What do you drive? (And no I don't own a Vette but I have owned two of them in my life:smt001).

Dave

Depends really. I drive an Audi A4 normally. Get good gas mileage to and from work. I also have a Audi Q7, that I drive on occassion and when I tow the boat. Or if I'm feeling a bit on edge I take the bike (Yamaha R6).

I think your getting a bit behind schedule. Start buying STUFF quick:) Then again if you plan on living till your 100 you have a few more years I suppose.

Ahhh, a bike man too, huh? I had a few of them. In fact, I had an R6 myself. Got any pics?

I'm going on 14 trainings... its a lil pathetic to be honest. And its getting very expensive. Yes I still ahve a valid drivers license:smt038

Yes I couldn't agree more about moving over. Even if I'm doing 120.... if I see someoen moving up on me I merge over and let them by asap. Versus them having to weave in and out possibly losing control.

We should have a national move the f*ck over day:) I bet there won't be as much traffic since people won't have to cut in front of slower moving cars, causing them to hit the brakes which in turn causes that chain reaction. Maybe then people will realize it actually helps themself out.

Excellent! I miss riding so much. We I used to live, we would go mountain riding all the time. You could really lay it down low ripping around those turns. Good times.

Here was my old R6.

Doug

Nice living around those kinds of places. I have to travel about an hour or two in order to find those kinds of roads. Love the graphics on that bike. Sweet ride! Well you can always start riding again. I know the perfect bike thats available for a meer 5k:) LOL

Only my second. I get out of 90% of my tickets with my good old PBA card that has a big black "survivor" stamp on it.

The last officer that stopped me even knew about my father's case...surprising 30+ years later he remembered it!

There are a few officers, mostly state troopers that dont care and give me the tickets, and Seymour cops have me in their computers for over a dozen stops. I was due for one there.

While I suppose I'm old enough for a mid-life car, I don't feel that old yet. Guess I'll hang on to the Navigator for a few more years. It only has 285,000 miles and I alway have my wife's Mark VIII, which is now mine now that she has another car.

Does a Porsche Cayenne count as a mid-life cars? I have a friend who works for Porsche. He almost go me into one. Or do I have to hold out for the 911? Danged 911 Turbos are expensive though.

Best regards,
Frank

The Cayenne is quite a car, the VW Taurig (sp?) is the same body with only a few less HP. The 911 turbo can be frigthening. I had a RS America (the lightweight version for club racing model) for a number of years that was quite a handful as well. Much faster than the C2 and C4 models and only slightly slower than the C2 Turbo. BTW if you think Sea Rays inhale gas.....

Probably. Couple of different naming conventions for Ford transmission. I got two of them mixed up in the one I posted. There's also one name with a "W" in it for wide ratio.

Same body structure. Porsche gets bodies in white that they then add their own suspensions, engines, and interiors, etc. They were using quite a bit of VW's electrical systems in the early models, but threw all of that out in the later ones as the VW stuff was unreliable. The V6 is mostly from the VW parts bin, but substantially modified by Porsche. The V8 is entirely Porsche and exclusively Cayenne. Pretty cool engine from what I've seen, but I've not seen it on the bench as my friend has. He also pointed out the differences between the VW and the Porsche with the car up on the lift. Interesting, especially the turbo version's stuff.

No matter how much fuel a car uses, on the highway it's hard to burn 30 GPH, like the boat does. 30 GPH at average engine efficiencies should turn out about 400 to 450 horsepower. Even a draggy body is well and far over 100 mph with that kind of power fully on. Even pushing my Navigator at 80 on the highway pulling a 5000 pound car/trailer combination the 30 gallons in the tank lasts several hours.

Best regards,
Frank C

So this ant and an elephant are walking through the woods and the elephant falls into a huge hole. He asks the ant "hey can you get me out?" the ant goes and gets his corvette, ties a rope around the bumper, throws it to the elephant and pulls him out

a few weeks later they are walking again and this time the ant falls into the hole. He looks up and asks the elephant "hey can you get me out?" .. the elephant says sure, pulls out his penis, drops it into the hole and the ant climbs out...

moral of the story?? if you have a big penis you don't need a corvette :smt043

This coming from a guy who really really wants a 1973 Vette

I own a Corvette convertible (C5). I drive it slow (in the right lane) because it does not handle, and is not as much fun to push around, as my previous 3 Porsches (which I club raced).

It is more of a cruiser, then a sports car....IMO. Also, I have been there...done that. Ready to just enjoy the ride.

I agree - drive it! Not quite a mid-life crisis point but my toy is a Mustang GT convertible and it certainly gets driven!

Bought my GT when I was 24.

I figured I should have my mid life crisis while I was still young enough to enjoy it.

I have an '02 (C5)... doesn't handle? Yeah, it may feel more like a tractor, but I can still push it as well as the Porsche. In fact, I prefer it when the back breaks loose as I find it fairly predictable.

I drive mine a bit over 100 miles a day, long commute. It gets 27 MPG. 6th gear has a drive ratio of 0.5 so at 69 MPH I'm only turning 1500 RPM. Volumetric efficiency comes up about equal to drag rise so it really doesn't care if it's going 55 MPH or 90 MPH, it still gets 27 MPG. Considering my motorcycle only got 35 MPG, this was a bit more civilized.

I've been impressed with some of these new V8s. My wife's 06 Vanden Plas, 4.2L V8 naturally aspirated, gets 28 mpg at 80. That was our average from NJ to SC last year. But with a draggy long wheelbase 4 door body, backing off works better. We did 31 mpg back and forth to the BIH CSR meet last month by holding back to just 70. Still not bad for over 4,000lbs luxury car. Beats the heck out of driving a Honda.

Best regards,
Frank

I have a 911 C4 Cabriolet and absolutely love it. Sometimes I push it hard and other times I am in a more laid back mood. Either way, the car does everything I want it to do and more. It was a childhood dream of mine to own a 911 and now I do.

Of course, the Sundancer 260 is a fun toy as well. It's a good life :)

Completely agree! It's also nice to hear of a bunch of you who have done some club racing. I ran a CSP Miata for a number of years and miss it almost every day. Speaking of mileage - I remember having a great weekend at VIR full course and checking mileage and feeling really good about getting the mileage down to 8.5mpg!
