Why is it that 99% of all Corvette owners drive their car like they are in a no wake zone with a 50 foot yacht? I say 99% because once in a blue moon I will catch a lunitic behind the wheel, but its very rare, and its probably not his/hers. I understand its a midlife crisis car and they aren't exactly cheap, but come on! These guys treat it like its a luxury car worth millions. God forbid a rock hits there bumper/hood at speeds in excess of 55MPH. Its called paint and its gonna chip... thats why they have autobody shops. If you want to go slow get yourself a golf cart and drive around the neighborhood... not a "sports" car. Owning a vet is not going to make you feel any younger.... mashing the gas pedal, hitting the corners, and finding out what the top speed on the car is should do the trick. Heck you may end up with some more hair on your head or balls.

PS. Sorry for my rant, but I've been stuck behind one of these guys everyday for the past couple of weeks. Not to mention its never been the same guy...

Note* I would recommend going german for all the rest of you guys reading this, going through a midlife crisis and considering purchasing a vette. If you bought the boat instead... good choice. O and if you don't intend on taking advantage of the "sport" features of a sport car, I would also recommend the new Smart car. You can save some money in gas to put in your shiny boat:)

Please don't take this personally if you are a vette owner. Just sell it and get your girl some new diamonds:)

Speaking not as a vette owner, but former Porsche owner - The thing about mid-life crisis cars is that its not about having the car for the car, but having the car because you've always wanted it. The guys you are getting behind a driving a dream, not a car. They probably would drive just as slow if they were piloting a minivan.

Henry

PS - I did and bought her a Sea Ray

Slacker-
I hear you! My mid-life-crisis-mobile is a BMW 330 convertible. And yes, I drive the hell out of it.

I agree - drive it! Not quite a mid-life crisis point but my toy is a Mustang GT convertible and it certainly gets driven!

HAHA. Good man! Thats my dream car as well.

It's probably one of the best cars I've ever owned, hands down. It accelerates, brakes, and handles better than any car I've ever driven. Drive one if you ever have the chance. I want to check out one of the new V8 M3's one day. Badass!

I used to have the 330i w/ the M package. As close as I got to owning one, but I did get the chance to take an M3 for the day while my car was being services. And OMG! What an incredible car. When I brought it back every piece of metal in that car was pinging because it was so hot:) I think it was sideways more than straight:) I figured out you need to hold down that traction control button for a few seconds till it blinks. THen your on your own.

While I suppose I'm old enough for a mid-life car, I don't feel that old yet. Guess I'll hang on to the Navigator for a few more years. It only has 285,000 miles and I alway have my wife's Mark VIII, which is now mine now that she has another car.

Does a Porsche Cayenne count as a mid-life cars? I have a friend who works for Porsche. He almost go me into one. Or do I have to hold out for the 911? Danged 911 Turbos are expensive though.

Best regards,
Frank

+1 on the Mustang GT. Bought it with some of the proceeds from my dockominium sale. Fully customized it and drive it like I stole it every chance I get. I have had it for 2+ years and the wife has never sat behind the wheel. She drives her CTS instead.

G35 2 speeds foot on break for stop and foot pushing the gas pedal throug the floor for go go go

I've not reached mid-life yet.

Hold out for the 911. They are sweet cars. Did you ever compare the Cayenne to the X5?

I just went through my quarter life crisis (if thats possible). Hence the boat, among other toys:)

Sort of. My Porsche-ophile friend doesn't have the Cayenne, but said that they are very reliable. He works with them, so he should know. The guys in the BMW shop at a local dealer say that the X5s are a PITA. A friend's wife has an X5. Or should I say she has an X3 loaner car? The X5 is in the shop a lot.

Best regards,
Frank

I did. And I ended up going with the Audi Q7. Boy is that truck a pile of sh*t! I'm on my second one, and they had to drop the motor on it already, among other repairs.

I wish I went with the X5. Has a bit better track record.

I have a normal 30something car, a CTS... (Keep in mind, I have to buy American, and the company pays for it if it has 4 doors) So I got the 6spd manual CTS, hard to find but fun to drive!

Glad I went with the Navigator. Not fast, but OK for it's size. I've had two transmission services done, but Ford paid for the first one and I only had to pay for the second. Since there have not been any other major repairs to the truck, I'm not complaining. The R100W is cheap to rebuild, too.

What do you drive? (And no I don't own a Vette but I have owned two of them in my life:smt001).

lol Matt...know exactly what you mean!!

Although we have 2 suv's right now, my next car will actually be a Jeep Rubicon. I always wanted the complete open feeling...doors off and all. Will still need that type of car with 3 kids and hockey etc., and a sports car just wont be practical for a few years :-(

When the time comes, it WILL be a Ferrari of some kind, or perhaps a Porsche. It will be beaten upon like it was still on the autobahn.

Even more so than your rant about these drivers, Matt, is the SUV people who refuse to go over a curb or get them dirty. Or will not go around someone on a one lane road because that would mean their two right tires will be on dirt. Heck, I purposely TRY and get my trucks on dirt and go up dirt roads sometimes instead of the paved ones to get to my house just because its fun!

I even saw, swear on this, a guy in a Hummer avoiding sewer caps in the road just a week or so ago.

Pathetic.

I hate *ANYONE* who stays in the left lane, regardless of age, gender or type of vehicle. BTW, when exactly does this 'mid-life crisis' thing kick-in? Need to know if I'm behind schedule as I'm in my early 40's. (I thought it was a 50's thing?)
