So here's a question for you guys... (Venting)

I've been impressed with some of these new V8s. My wife's 06 Vanden Plas, 4.2L V8 naturally aspirated, gets 28 mpg at 80. That was our average from NJ to SC last year. But with a draggy long wheelbase 4 door body, backing off works better. We did 31 mpg back and forth to the BIH CSR meet last month by holding back to just 70. Still not bad for over 4 ton luxury car. Beats the heck out of driving a Honda.

Best regards,
Frank

That's an awfully heavy car you have.

That's what I get when I decide at the last minute to change units from pounds to tons.

Thanks for catching the error.

Frank

I completely missed this thread. I didn't know it was about cars. I bought a '85 RX-7 GSL-SE late in 1984. I drove that thing (mostly sideways) through 4 sets of tires. It's in my garage with a 5th set of tires at about 95,000 miles.

My mid-life crisis car was a 2001 GMC Sierra C-3 - kind of a performance truck. I still drive it and absolutely love it. I've been coasting to stops quite a bit and the gas milage is around 18 MPG in town.

I think my jeep gets 10mpg/highway. Nothing like pushing a square brick through the air with a 3 speed transmission.

I think he means 2 ton not 4.

I have to weigh in on the Cayenne, X3, Tourag, dicussion. We had a Cayenne for about 3 years until my wife got a company car and it made no sense for her to have two. We looked at all three vehicles and decided on the Cayenne. 50K Miles later, the only shop visit was to change the oil at each 10K mark, and that was it. Very solid, very well-handling vehicle- almost sports car like. The Tourag was a yawner, and the Bimmer- like all Bimmers are everywhere you look. I don't like spending that much money on a vehicle that I see 5 exact copies of every day.

My fun car is an 04 S-Type R. For those of you that don't Jaguars, it has almost 400 horses. Put your foot to the floor on this car and the traction control will begin taking the wheel-spin out of your rear wheels in the first three gears (out of 6). This car is a blast to drive. Yeah, I know the M3 is the top rated car in this category- but so what. This car is a head turner and not seen at every street corner like BMWs.

Oh yeah, the Dodge with the Cummins is my daily driver- do I need to mention the military truck I also have ? :)

Any vettes want some?

This is my 6th Mustang, all have been Cobras, had 2 different 03 Cobras and I keep coming back to this body style.

I've been pretty favorably impress with my wife's Vanden Plas. The new supercharged XF (425 hp) has a place on the next car candidate list.

Best regards,

I finally saw an XF in the flesh the other day for the first time. Nice. If you go to Autoblog.com, select the manufacturer tab, and click Jaguar, you'll see some photos of the XF-R at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. My wife and I went 2 years ago. If you are ever in England, and are into cars, this is a must do.
