I was as puzzled as everybody else as to why the site was down. A CSR member that owns a hosting company maintains the server. He has now set up a trigger that will inform his staff of every hiccup this server gets, so future downtime should be attended to in minutes. Sorry.

whew - had withdrawals yesterday! Had to resort to another forum and that just wasn't as much fun. Thanks for the update.

I had just changed my security software when the site when down. I turned the security program upside down looking for the problem thinking that I had some how locked myself out. Glad to see CSR back up this morning.

A big thank you to the fellow that hosts this site for fixing the glitch. My wife was glad though as I put the last coat of finish on the parts for a fancy closet I am making for her.

Back in the olden days of science fiction, someone would always confound an intelligent device or thinking machine with questions such as "What's love?" or "Define the difference between good and evil." I'm betting that CSR was bollixed up over the bridge vs. express threads. So no more of that!

Best regards,
Frank

what did I miss? did Greg finally pick a boat?

It has been up and down several times lately, another member had emailed me asking if I could get in, I told him I was in reading a thread and went to change pages and it was dead. I figured it would be back up in just a little while, tried and home last night, tried first thing (6:30 AM) it was still down. This is much better. :smt038 Thanks for fixing it.

Jim,

Thanks for the note. I was just thinking that if it's not a big deal is there a chance your team can send out a quick message with expected downtime? One think I was just hopping that this was a unusual glitch and you guys are working on it, as long as it's not the last one as for SRO.

I was having withdrawal symptoms... glad to see it back up this morning!

Any group email would actually come from the software, so if I can't get in I can't send a group email. We should have a backup plan for this sort of thing, like if the forum catches on fire we will all scatter then meet over on our other forum themarinescene.com

Just curious (from an IT guy point of view) what was up with it? And what can be done (can we help?) to keep it from happening in the future?

I don't see Gary anywhere, don't tell me he hurt himself again.

Not sure, Capt_Jack is the CSR user that maintains it. I know he has moved our database around a few times as it has grown and I think right now it may even reside on his personal server that he has some of his sites on. It has been very stable as far as I am concerned and always fast which is most important. Since it was on his server he had no alert function going to his tech support guys at his company for when it went down. Yesterday he was actually traveling and on a plane for a good part of the day so he had no idea it was down. Same thing happened over the weekend. Of course me, not trying to be a pain in the butt everytime a page doesn't load, did not email him as I figured he knew it was down and was working on it. But indeed he did not know it was down utnil he got my email. To avoid this moving forward he has put this particular server on teh same "watch" program as other servers they maintain, so any future hiccups will be attended to right away. Capt_Jack, if I explained any of this wrong please correct me.

Jim, I don't know your infrustructure, but in case if you have more than one server (physical machines) involved, then there few ways of doing this even if the CSR server hangs or crashes. We have number of members, including yourself, on this board that have very good knowledge on the subject. But, if there's anything I can do to help, please feel free to PM me.

Alex.

Just glue a Sea Ray logo on the side of the server and all will be fine!

One good thing about it being down. It gave me a chance to check out the other boating boards and like I told one of our members via email. After CSR the other boards are just no fun. :)
