Well I have to say that trying to sell our boat in todays climate with gas prices increasing is damn near impossible.

My broker tells me that they have seen a dramatic decrease in the number of lookers and in two follow up calls he did today both stated that they are no longer looking due to gas prices going up.

The only thing we can do is to drop the price of our boat to try and offload it but I think it will still take a long time to sell, if it ever does.

Considering how much you may have to drop the price to sell the boat, how much use could you get out of the boat?

Oil prices fluctuate a lot year to year. Perhaps if you sit on the boat, get some use out of it this year, then possibly you could sell the boat next year and still come out even dollar wise.

Whilst that is true if we were close by the boat and it was located in our home port I would probably take that approach. However we are not and it is not so I have just dropped it $20K today to see if that gets us anywhere.

What really annoys me is that there has been no reduction in oil production or shipping of oil from Lybia at all. On top of that OPEC has increased its oil production to try and quell the hysteria over Lybia.

So someone is playing big time over the Lybia thing to maximise their profit taking whilst they are paying no more for the product.

The other issue you have Paul is winter ..You also may want to consider advertising that trades would be considered. ( you could down size and get some money back) or you could set the boat up as a private share arrangement

Sorry to hear your situation, but it seems to me that anybody that can afford a boat like yours, gas prices shouldn't be a problem. I think people get scared at rising gas prices and don't actually do the math. Yes it cost more, but there are a lot of other things we can cut in order to enjoy a passion for boating.

It is amazing how the US government gets involved in things they have no need to stick their nose in and when they are needed they are no where to be found.

What ticks me off about the fuel prices going up is the fact at most of the gas stations the prices have gone up 3 or 4 times before I see a tanker truck on the lot.

Finally, last time this happened we found out that the oil companies make huge profits. THis has nothing to do with supply & demand.

Oh well, I have ranted enough, now I'll go burn some gas in my boat now!

The reason we are selling is not to do with fuel prices, it is unfortunate for us that the fuel issue has occured after we put the boat on the market.

The only saving grace for us is that the boat is on the Gold Coast which really does not have an off boating season like the southern states do.

It is the reason I have not looked into getting the boat down to our home port as the boating season is now finished and will not start up again until November.

Plus there is more of a boating culture/lifestyle on the Gold Coast than elsewhere in Australia imo, so the best chance for a sale is there.

We are committed to selling the boat so if that means we have to reduce the price then that is what we will do, I think we have now priced it at a level that will generate some interest considering it is shaft drive and all the maintenance and repairs have been done in the past month.

Only time will tell of course.

if you have decided to get out of boating then the faster you do it the better you are. you may have to just cut your loses and make your boat the cheapest on the market. It will then be the first to go. There is always a buyer for the " right " price. That price may be far lower then you thought you would be willing to go. Remember if you don't sell this season between expenses and depreciation you may be out 20 g's more next year. It might be best to get it over with now.
not using a broker can save to 10% good luck

Yep I agree which is why we have made the new price the way below what else is on the market in our bracket. It did mean dropping $20K but so be it we can make that up in no time.

We are not through with boating, far from it. We do intend to get another boat in the future just not at the moment.

When we do get another boat I think we will go with something that can be dry stored.

Paul,
It sounds like you need to consider a move to the Gold Coast!!

It probably won't make you feel better, but I had a friend who took a $100,000 bath on a '99 540 last summer. Was a great freshwater boat, 3196's, stored under cover.....

Here's to hoping you can tough it out.

What websites do you or your broker have it listed on?

Can you provide a link for us to view?

I think it just depends on the boat market. The big boats are like big expensive houses. only the lower cost affordable houses are selling bringing down the median and mean prices.

I just sold my 18foot alumaweld jet fishing boat in 3 days with a fair price and in top shape.

I just had a broker call me after two weeks. Seller dropped price 25% to try to move it. Got my attention and going to look tomorrow. I agree, cheaper boats seem to be selling quick.

'We don't like climates with excessive humidity which is what summer on the Gold Coast has. We live in an arid area much like Sedona in Arizona.

Plus my wife and I work in unique employment that means we must live where we do. Although this means living a long way from water we are compensated very well. So long as there is a need for our services we shall be staying in our current location.

It is being advertised in all the major boat mags as well as the brokers own website and they also cross list on to the major boat sales wensites here in Australia.

Boat prices here are quite a bit more than what a similar boat would sell for in the USA.

It looks like a very nice boat and I hope you do well. Your price reduction may get some serious attention.

For now we have just posted a plug for the ad and sale of your boat :)

You are at the end of your season, and the gas prices are crazy now... If I were you, I would not drop my pric for the next six months... By then it will be your spring, and hopefully the gas prices will drop... Time to get your snow skis sharpened...

Snow???? What is this thing you speak of ????:smt043

Very few places receive snow in Australia and certainly nowhere around us gets any snow.

It is quite expensive for Australians to go to the Snowy Mountains or the Victorian Alps to enjoy skiing.

In NSW, which is one of our states, the schools actually make a point of taking the school kids on a school excursion to the Snowy Mountains for a week. This is so the kids get to see snow at least once in their childhood.

Paul, Believe it or not our marina has 10 people on the waiting list.

To get a slip that bought a boat this winter . :wow:

Boats are still selling very well here so far. .

It's terribly unfortunate that you don't have the option of exporting your boat to Australia like we do.
