Seafood: East V. West

You guys on the coasts don't know how good you have it - seafood wise. Me, I'm stuck here in the midwest and reduced to ordering high priced stuff to be flown in for special occasions. Heck, the frozen crabcakes from Sam's Club even seem good!

We do however have y'all beat in the beef department - steaks in the supermarkets in MD last summer were almost double, per pound, what we pay in good ole Indiana. I grow my own.

You lying Bastard. There ain't no bread in our crab cakes down here. Go to the that Hyatt joint in Cambridge and there isn't any CRAB in the crab cakes. I challenge you to a crab cake taste test.... That bread thing was invented by all the damn liberals up in MD.... "no crab cake left behind" or something....

Game on! Our pure and authentic entry certainly will not be from the Hyatt as this is a worldwide conglomerate, so what could they possibly know about Md. crab cakes?

We will be in your waters the last week of June and try to choke down a sample from wherever you prefer. Perhaps with stout portions of Old Bay that I will have on board, it might be palatable,

You're on. The SurfRider Restaurant at Bluewater Yachting Center in Hampton... I'll meet you there.... Your apology, along with pictures, will be accepted after your best crab cake meal.

I know what you mean by this. The 4 and 5-star hotel chains in Atlanta don't have home-brewed sweet tea. What are they thinking?

And when you finally have a properly prepared sample here, you will know why they are called MARYLAND crab cakes. When we win you get to wear an Obama hat, courtesy of the Md. Liberals of course, with pictures for all to share.

See the cool part is we can raise cows here too, so why would you live there?: Yeah, you may have us on price for meat....but.....

I love this sh*t. What's the date? I may need to see this.

It has to be a blind taste test

Well, I grew up in Gig Harbor, WA and lived there until I was 18. Joined the Navy and traveled to world. Lived in San Diego and Hawaii for a few years in there. Have been in Virginia for the past 10 years now. I lived on the Eastern Shore of VA for 3 and right off the Potomac for the past 7.

I am here to tell you, nothing is better then Dungenous Crab and Alaskan Salmon. I even get my tuna from the area. I buy Tuna Guys tuna by the case and have it shipped to me. Crab cakes with blue crab is fine, but it pales in comparison to Dungenous.

Oh, and worst of all, they have deep fried soft-shelled crab out here. WTF is up with that?!?!

I've seen Sushi restaurants do that. ...that ain't right.

Yeah, nothing worse then seeing a soft shelled crab sandwich with all the little legs pokin' out of the sides of the bun. Oh, and it's not gutted/cleaned so you get that real special yellow mustard looking c__p when you bite into it. :wow: :smt100

Your just a big Kearney.

Probably eat your steaks well done also...

don't you guys eat anything other than crab and salmon? Atmosphere, IMO, is where the taste is at. The best sea urchin I ever had was caught by a Hawaiian girl in Kauai and we ate it on the beach. The best trout I ever had was caught by my grandfather in the mountains of AZ. The best Grouper I ever had was caught by me in Mexico. The best barracuda I ever had was spear fished off the island of Barbados. I eat more fish than most I know. The best fish is associated to the atmosphere in where it's eaten. I would much rather eat a lobster I snagged off the coast of LI, than eat a Salmon flown from Alaska.

Amen to that!. Blue Crabs are about the same as Crawfish (and I love Crawfish Boils). A lot of work for little payoff in meat...boring tasting meat at that. I have had plenty of awesome Crab Cakes from the MD area, but nothing like fresh caught Dungeness boiled in a fire cooked kettle of sea water on the beach. Do not over look the "Crab Butter" when you pop the back off of them.

I really should move back to the PNW.

My hot dog guy is on a roll this month. I should write a book... "Miah... religion, sex, and the art of beef butt".

I don't blame you there. We're lucky to have local and fresh Alaskan fish flown in to supply the local restaurants everyday.
Nothing better than catching your own though and grillin' it a couple hours later....or picking a 5 gallon bucket of fresh clams and 3-4 dozen oysters out of a lagoon and steaming and grillin' those either. I hear you on the "location"

Got to love the Surfrider for having lived in Cheaspeake (VA Beach), VA for many years Surfrider was a weekly thing.
