Ok. In seeing the thread on "where's a good SeaFood Rest in Chesapeake Bay" it got me curious.

Some have mentioned Crabcakes which are not common around here in the PacNW. What is though is fresh, fresh fish, crab, prawns, Clams, oysters. Etc.

As a son of a Man who worked for a Fuel dock filling the NW and Alaskan Fishing fleet with fuel, its' illegal and against my nature to eat farmed fish and I'm picky for fresh over frozen.

Many of you have touted "real CrabCakes". I've never had an Eastcoast crab cake, but eaten my family's weight in Crab, usually Dungeness Crab. I've also had my share of the meaty Alaskan King crab and Snow crab, but I prefer the Dungeness.

On the Food channel I've seen you East Coasters make crabcakes with Blue crabs and some rock crabs.

How about Salmon. I think hands down Alaskan wild Salmon and some of the local Sockeye's and Silver's are the best.

What say you? How many have had it on both coasts and can compare?

Haven't had both coasts but as far as the fish.....You guys do just fine out there!
Maine lobsters are quite tasty but can't beat the King crab
I honestly don't see much of a difference between oysters. Get any striped bass out there?

I am curious to see some of the responses here....Good thread Todd:thumbsup:

We can ship ya a package Todd...They are priced pretty cheap right now.

Crab cakes are great made with Blue claw. They seem to have more crab flavor than our very own Dungeness. You can make them yourself by finding "lump crab" meat at the grocery. Just check for the label to say blue claw crab. I can make an awesome crab cake...

Nothing beats a good old Maryland crab cake...

I have to say, Todd, the king salmon we had in Alaska was about as good as it gets. And I do love a good Maryland crabcake. And while not strictly seafood, I enjoy fresh-caught trout.

Anyone out West.......or East, for that matter, in the mood for GREAT crabcakes, check out www.gandmcrabcakes.com .

They recently started shipping nationwide. It was a little carryout place that became so popular they just spent over a million to expand the place.

A little pricey, but you WILL get what you pay for. I drive 45 minutes to get there, and always worth the trip.

Next time your there tell them that the web site needs updating. 12 crab balls isn't 13, and the "crab cake party special of 12" shows only 8? They should have spent some of that million on advertising.

Todd,

I'm with you on this one. There is no seafood better than the Great NW. I've had so-called seafood from the right coast and it just ain't right, man.

In my 20's I work crab boats in Alaska and had all I wanted to eat and never got enough.

When I lived in Seattle I worked near downtown and about evert other week I would hit the Public Market and take home a couple of Dungeness for dinner. A bottle of wine....cracked crab....cheese and crackers by the fire. Pretty romantic....and even more so if I had a woman there too.

I love crab. Ak King is best. I hate crab cakes. Don't understand why you would take any delicasy and dilute it with breading and spices. I just don't get it.

If you want a crab cake don't dare buy that dreadful stuff in the can!! If you look on the labelmost of it is from Indonesia and Thailand. I'm sorry but I live in MD and I wouldn't order a crabcake in a restaurant and only make them if I have leftover meat. The only way for crab is right out of the shell. Some beers friends and a whole load of crabs! Oysters are good too, scalded anyhow. I also love Maine lobsta, Louisiana crawdads, Alaskan salmon and king crab, and atlantic swordfish. I think everyone has good stuff, the best thing is the variety you can get in different spots of the county. Not seafood, but the best side dish.... N.C. Hushpuppies!!

There are very few restaurants that make a quality crabcake. Most will toss together mayo, bread crumbs, Old Bay seasoning, and backfin....if your lucky, and serve it fried or broiled. Tough to screw it up, but all too common.

After trying so called crabcakes at MANY restaurants over the years, including Hawaii and The Keys, I've only found 2 places I would get them again. Both within 30 miles of home.

Get a good one and you will appreciate the difference.

I think I'm with John. Why ruin great fresh crab with mayo and bread crumbs. I'll maybe make some garlic butter and fight my kids and wife off for that last pincher leg

The “breading” is sacrilegious and something a true Marylander would never consider. You must be referring to those imitation Virginia crab cakes. As for the spices, once you have experienced Old Bay, the spice tends to get added to almost everything.

You lying Bastard. There ain't no bread in our crab cakes down here. Go to the that Hyatt joint in Cambridge and there isn't any CRAB in the crab cakes. I challenge you to a crab cake taste test.... That bread thing was invented by all the damn liberals up in MD.... "no crab cake left behind" or something....
