Sea Ray Living Magazine

Todd, I'm sure everyone in this thread has read & complied with that request. I'm also sure that No one is beating up on Matt. There is obviously a flawed system in place when a man in his position has to field Emailed request for a piece of promotional material.

Are you sure about that? I am not. I sense a fair amount of indignant stubbornness to decline Matt's request to be added to the mailing list.
Obviously there are some here, Gary for instance, who are possibly looking to upgrade and are the exact demographic Sea Ray should be targeting as he has apparently always purchased new boats from Sea Ray and would possibly do it again. But, I fear by including Gary and catering to his every whim, Sea Ray may be contributing to a far greater problem. Without this outlet for Gary to express his discontent with the current SR administration, he'd have a lot of negative energy building up only to be released at once down the road with possible casualties involved. For this alone I am grateful that Sea Ray has snubbed him so publicly!!
Then there is Frank W who has been as strong an advocate for the brand as Capt. Rusty Higgins. Obviously Sea Ray should include him in magazine circulation as a minimum if not more But, because of the aforementioned parameters Sea Ray has established on circulation one email to Matt was required.
As for myself, I am not planning on purchasing a brand new boat, probably ever, but appreciate being in the loop on the magazine as I have pride in this brand and enjoy reading up on others who share that feeling. I don't "expect" Sea Ray to acknowledge me just because I own one of their vessels but, appreciate that Matt extended the opportunity to continue to receive one of their small "perks" just by expressing my personal interest to him.
Is the system flawed? Probably as can be seen by all of the negativity in many of the previous comments.

I am sorry that I started this thread as all I wanted to do was comment on some cool technology that I had never seen before. I apologize to all of you that this thread has brought out some negative feelings toward the brand or current Sea Ray hierarchy.
I also apologize to Matt (searaycorporate) because I believe that he does value this forum and tries to keep us involved in what's going on. I fear that the continued complaining at every turn will eventually beat him down and he will leave the forum, thus leaving us worse off for the future.

Damn, when will spring get here.....

Well, I can say it's not a big boat thing. I get the magazine religiously. I am very transparant that I can't afford a big boat, and don't even like the new styling. I do stay in touch with my Dealership, Hall Marine Lake Wylie, because when the deal is right I will go bigger.....320da....largest maybe....used! I believe Hall keeps me in mind. They are the best people to buy a boat from. When I walk into their dealership they remember my name, and treat me like family, even though I'm little fish. They are the only reason I'd consider another Sea Ray. If they start selling any other brand, I'm going with them.

Gary, I would venture a guess you are to outspoken for your own good. Alot of people don't get your humor. I personally love it. Think about it, your not the typical rich guy, and nothing is beyond you making fun of. You hold their feet the fire, and expect real world results. Plus because you are the person that can afford the new line of boats, you stand a chance of doing real damage to the brand because people follow you.

Frank I can't figure out why you don't get it. You are the ambassador of Sea Ray in my opinion. I would venture a guess you sell as many Sea Ray boats as most salesman, and your not even on the pay role.

This doesn't have anything to do with Winter...it has to do with fiercely supporting a company whose current management now seems to have decided that they don't give a crap about their customers unless they are purchasing brand new yachts and sport yachts every couple of years.

It does have something to do with the CSR membership, used boat owners (most of us), and an attitude of that's "not our demographic".

How about you walk into your local car dealership and someone employed there tells you that you are not their demographic? Or your grocery store? Or, anyone else you intended to do business with?

Feel the love now?

I'm pretty sure you missed my point(s) Todd. But I'll chalk that up as my error. For the record... an E mail to Matt is all that is required, is not accurate.

These threads, I read and participated in both of them, are not being used to bad mouth Matt. We are glad to have him here. Just owners venting frustration over a simple system that isn't working as expected.

How do explain me Rick? I'm not defending anything, and I don't even understand why I get the magazine. I've been as outspoken about not liking the new styling and can't afford it.

You slipped through the cracks in an imperfect system.

Now, they are going to take away your mag subscription, take your name of the email lists, kick you out of the Sea Ray Owners Club, and forget you exist until you have $1M to spend on your next boat.

You better get off the Internet and get to work. That $1M isn't just going to fall in your lap...

That gets you one issue and a letter from someone.............but they drop you before the second issue is mailed.

I don't know.... I have been getting mine for a few years now...

Their unpublished rule is you have to have purchased a new boat in the last X number of years to get the magazine.

I'm surprised they don't do the reverse...hey, this guy just bought a new boat, cut off his subscription and send it to Gary because he hasn't bought one in a while.:smt043

Did I tell you guys....I get two copies sometimes...they're workin' overtime on the 'make him take mental ownership' thing. I wish they'd send me the hat's I was supposed to get for filling out a couple special surveys.

Now I understand why there isn't as much enthusiasm on this thread as I expected!! Lol

Well, you got the enthusiasm level up. Lol

I am sorry that I started this thread as all I wanted to do was comment on some cool technology that I had never seen before.

Sometimes it is hard to aim enthusiasm...

Sea Ray has made a ton of money on the 2ftitis trade up mentality. Problem with that business model is its kinda like a pyramid scheme. Eventually people max out their ability to do so. The economy down turn turned this off fast.

My thoughts are, if I owned a boat company, I'd want the folks out on the water showing my product. The people that can afford gas or diesel are the folks that can still afford to buy new. I would listen to them. Even if I had to build a boat for them exclusively, to keep them happy.

Geesh, I wonder what list I'm on. I get SRL about once a year. I enjoy it and read it pretty thoroughly.

I guess I've bad mouthed these new euro designs too many times to make the regular mailing list.

I have an idea. What's the possibility of Jim and SeaRay working out a deal to provide sponsoring members of this forum with a subscription?

Stop making sense!
Why would they want a self-selected group of paying enthusiasts on their mailing list? That's a joke if anyone can't tell.

Hate to rain on your parade.... But I have never bought a new boat... On my second used one... Bought them both from a broker... Been getting the magazine ever since I signed up online a few years ago.....

You are probably 38 and good looking.

Really?! When have I bashed my Sea Ray? Like this thread:

So you are saying a good business model is only have customers you'll never hear from. That's really SMART!

Sea Ray has not "snubbed" me publicly... other than Matt telling me I'd have to call my sales guy and wait in line to see the 650. Sheez... I just want a magazine.

Seeing I have not received my magazine they have dropped me from their list also. I have been a member of the Sea Ray Owners Club for 17 years. Ever sense I purchased my little 16' Jet Boat back in 1997 I felt like part of a community of Sea Ray owners and always looked forward to the next issue of Sea Ray Living. I have had my picture posted in one issue and we had an article written about one of our local Sea Ray rondezvous. I have purchased two new boats and two used, don't understand:huh: But hey now I'm part of a better community, CSR:thumbsup:

Not raining on my parade-

My source is the horse's mouth:

"We made the decision late this year to narrow down the mailed distribution of Sea Ray Living to customers who purchased a Cruiser, Sport Yacht or Yacht from us in the last 10 years or a sport boat in the last 5 years. That helps me on both shipping and printing costs. Sea Ray Living is always/has always been available online"
