Sea Ray Living Magazine

Frank they still have my 1998 250 DA listed on the account. And,,,,,, I have $500 off a new boat if I like .
I guess it's just a computer glitch that your not receiving the mag.

When I started getting the monthly Porsche magazine, I thought to myself how much of an expense it must be for them to front the costs. As I perused it for the first time, the rationale became apparent. There are dozens of full page advertisements from watch and car manufacturers, and more.

I have always enjoyed "Living", and like the recent improvements. There are 16 full page ads, including the inside front and back covers, and the back cover. I'd think Sea Ray would be looking to increase the circulation, to move up the numbers, and justify as big a price as possible for those ads. In any event, I'd think there there may be an opportunity to get back a material amount of the overall expense, and create a win/win for all of us.

I actually get a Mercedes and Porsche magazine.... and I bought the Porsche used. When I asked about Sea Ray Living after buying a brand new 380 DA, I was told "Well... you already bought a boat so you are not in their new buyer profile anymore." Then I bought a brand new 480 DB... asked about Sea Ray Living and was basically told the same thing. Frankly, I have flown to Sea Ray facilities twice on my own nickel and the fact I can't get a stupid magazine from them is passed borderline insulting. NOR can I ever get invited to any sessions on "customer input." All I want is to stay up to date on a boat brand I have invested over $1 million in (cash out of the bank) and I'm told "you are not our demographic" by multiple generations of B-school history and psychology majors. Rusty keeps dragging me back for some reason. We have matching jean jackets.

Doesn't matter... competition in the open market is good. Trying to think when the last time I bought a used boat.... hmmm... never....

Well, there is the problem! Stop paying cash and finance the next one and maybe you can get SRL sent to you. Don't feel too special, my friend bought a 270 (kept it for 2-weeks), a 330 (kept it for a few years), a 400DB (kept it for a few years) and finally a 560DB. Wrote checks for all of them and doesn't get SRL but they did fly him to Florida to look at some new models once.

I know Sea Ray doesn't "sell" the magazine. I'm also sure they don't want to get into the magazine business, (I'm in that business on a much smaller scale, it's not all fun and games.) I offered to pay for the magazine, but like Frank said, I refuse to beg for something that others get free.

The majority of the work involved in putting the magazine together is likely farmed out to a company that has very little to do with Sea Ray. That being said, maintaining a mailing list would be a minuscule increase in overall cost and mail costs wouldn't break the bank either. When you consider the huge cost of actually producing the finished product, it is downright foolish to not distribute it. There are plenty of companies out there that would jump at the chance to absorb these costs.

I can hear one of my clients now....."Let me get this straight, I pay for the ad, you print the book, but we limit circulation to save 2% of overall costs. Yeah, no thanks."

Gary I'm sure your next move up will probably not be a Sea Ray anyway. I know if it was me and I was looking 50+ I'd be at other manufacturers in Miami next week.

You all don't find it strange that the ~100 active people on here can't get SR Living?

I don't know... not that I have executive experience in public companies, but I think the marketing dude would be fired. Right after he posted on his twitter account how cool Sea Ray is....

Even I can understand feeling snubbed. I was done that was and literally laughed out the door when I tried to look at used Peterbilts at the dealership in the Poconos, PA. I used to live therr. But when I bought one from somewhere else. I made a point to show them the truck I have. That was a long time ago and still to this day I would tow my crap past them if I needed work done before I'd give them a single penny.

At least Matt (SeaRayCorporate) threw out an offer to email him with the subject Sea Ray Living and he will make sure you are on the mailing list. Seems like he is trying to rectify a problem that started long before the new management was in place. Dino Publishing creates the magazine but I am unclear who dictates the mailing list.

I've met Matt, briefly. I liked him as he seemed personable and open to meeting even to a low end guy like myself. But I offered to buy the Atlanta Braves a while back. We just haven't closed the deal yet.

Im sure he has lots more to do than distribute magazines. But like I said, plenty of people out there to do that. Hell, send me a couple cases, I'll have them out in the mail the same day.

I don't know guys. Matt posted what Sea Rays plans were for the new magazine & its distribution a few months ago. He also said he would be more than happy to keep any CSR member in circulation that was interested. All that he asked was that you email him direct & to inform him of your interest. This way they aren't mailing out magazines destined directly for the round file.
If you call that "begging", then you & I have vastly different interpretations of the definition of that word.

So this is the "It's not me it's you" thing? sheez... Yeah... That's a successful response to a performance appraisal.

"I am so sorry I did not respond to your offer for me to feel important.

Signed:

Mr. Customer."

Todd, I'm sure everyone in this thread has read & complied with that request. I'm also sure that No one is beating up on Matt. There is obviously a flawed system in place when a man in his position has to field Emailed request for a piece of promotional material.

OK... There is NO WAY I am going to let Mat do the the "It was Bush's fault" crap. He's in charge... period. Time to step up to the plate.

I know that Matt is dealing with an inherited contract concerning the SRO club and its management that has to expire before they can do a lot to correct the problems. That doesn't lessen the sting when many of us who have spent a lot of money on Sea Ray boats in the past are treated like step children as we try to continue to follow and support the brand hoping for new product that fits our needs as time marches on and our boating needs change. I'm not upset with Matt....it is what it is. Sea Ray either addresses the SROC problem or they face losing the support of a legion of owners who feel abandoned.
