Run to the sun!?!?

Here's the website to the marina. It ha some great amnesties and floating docks which is important to us for ease of getting the dogs on and of the boat.

Thanks Shaun. Keep the details coming. Even if I never make a move like this it's great to live the fantasy vicariously through others!

I appreciate it. Never say never because I was sure it wouldn't happen for me either but things change. I have to admit, I never expected this thread to be followed with such attention or to have this big of an outpouring of advise and support. I knew you all were great but you've really blown me away here. I assure you all of your advise has really helped us make this decision. Can't thank you all enough. I owe you all a beer so if this works out, stop by Lucky's and have a drink!!

Yes, we have honed in on the Jupiter, Stuart/Palm City area. Leaning more towards the Stuart area as the Marina We've found that we really like is in Stuart and I'd like to be close to the boat. But we will see what we like when we get there!

I know that your week in Florida is going to be busy but I would want to get a feel for what people do with their boats in those areas. I would specifically want to know how pervasive the manatee protection zones are and what using the St Lucie and Jupiter inlets are like.

A little bit. Got a couple feelers out but figure it will be much easier to go in and talk to the funeral homes I'm interested in face to face when were there next month.

I am 3-5 years from retiring and following this thread closely (well changing careers probably never totally retire). Would like to move South also. Thanks to all for the info.

Went and told all my family tonight. That was tough and I have some really sad siblings, nieces and nephews. But they're all being very supportive and realize its something I've wanted for a long time. My parents were sad, but then got excited when they remembered he's retiring in two months. They will be coming down for the winter and staying by us. He was all excited about towing his boat down and all the fishing he'll do while everyone here is shoveling snow! All and all it was tough but went well and another load off to have that done.

Whole lot better than what I'm dealing with now! We're really excited for our trip down there next month so we can hopefully get some important decisions made and start pushing forward.

So for you FL peeps, is the camper canvas something I'm gonna want in the FL sun? Does that shade make a big difference? I had all new canvas made this past summer but just did the Bimini and cockpit cover remade as I like to take the back off and have it open. However, I was thinking I might want to have the camper top finished off for shade purposes. What is your thought on this? Thanks!

Shaun,
Yes!! Even up here in NY I use the camper top a lot. When you're sitting in the sun at the marina with no breeze and it's 90* with 80% humidity you will want a some shade. Throw in the Mosquitos that should be plentiful down there and you will want the side curtains with screens too!

The camper top (we call it Delta canvas) is fantastic for hot or cold days/nights.

Kinda my thought too. Just wanted to confirm. We have all the frame work as my boat had the full camper. I just didn't have it done when I redid the canvas. Just got to thinking though that I may want it there. I have a great canvas guy here so I figured if I'd want it there I should have him do it here. Guess ill call him tomorrow. Thanks!

Shaun, The camper top is a must down here, I don't have screens but in summer it gets so darn hot they would be nice. I changed how my factory camper was set up from SR, I didn't like the rear bimini frame, as it got in the way boarding on the sides of the boat so I extended the rear bimini that attaches to arch by 2 ft, and did a camper from there, I like it much better.

I use the camper top (rear bimini) quite often in the summer. The extra shade is a must if you're out in the sun and saltwater all day long.
