Run to the sun!?!?

Woody, thanks for your thoughts. A far as owning goes, the purchase would be very expensive and will without doubt tie me here for a loooong time. If I was the owner I would have to work for many years to get things paid down enough where I could start to enjoy life and freedom again. Therefore, a purchase would void any chance of a move. That is why I feel like I'm at a now or never point in my life.

One other area we've looked at a bit was Stuart. Obviously we will be checking things out when we visit but does anyone have local knowledge, thoughts or opinions on Stuart?

Shaun, have you thought of doing the Mid eastern states? Del, has some areas but traffic stinks. MD, all along the Eastern Shore there's land and great boating. VA, as long as you stay away from Northern Va you can fing some great homes, and marinas and boating are abundant.

This made me think of something funny. My brother sometimes would mention a guy named Digger. I asked him how the guy got his nickname...did he work construction or something? My brother said no, he owns a funeral home. That was actually in a little town north of Grand Rapids, Ravenna I think.

Lol, fairly common. I'm known as "digger" to a lot of people as well. Usually either called digger or Lucky. Rarely Shaun!

As much as I appreciate the idea, my dream has been the sunshine and palm trees of FL. If I make this big of a move I'm only willing to do it to the area I've dreamt of since childhood. Not saying there's anything wrong with your neck of the woods. Just not my calling.

You'll love Florida where ever you end up. Every part of fl has its own flavor. Though it sounds like you would love the west coast or southern area best. Pricey near the big cities obviously but so much fun. Real estate is reasonable and rents as well. You cant beat an 80 degree day in January :) Great concerts, beach days, the arts, the food. Cheap flights to PR and the. Bahamas go for it, you won't regret it. Good luck

Besides Stuart also liking the Palm City area. Got my eye on Loggerhead Marina in Stuart. Again, any insight on any of these things would be great. Tentatively it looks like well be down there feb 10-17. Should know for sure tomorrow. Hope to select a town, neighborhood and maybe hospital for Heather on that trip. She has her FL RN license already. She go it when we were looking to move in 2008 and has kept it renewed (sign?) so that shoulda or her job hunt pretty easy. My FL funeral director/embalmer license will be expensive and a bit time consuming, but not too much work as I can forgo a lot of the requirements due to my MI license. Gettin serious now...

Nice marina Shaun!

Seems to be. Great local being right off the Stuart inlet and on the ICW. Also seems to have a nice restaurant, pool with swim up bar, fuel on site, nice club house, etc. Planning on visiting when we go down but it would be great if someone was familiar with it. The other benefit I see is that they own marinas in several other FL towns and you get special discounted rates at them all. Might be nice as we plan on exploring the coast a lot.

Have an acquaintance in the business who says, "I'll be the last person to let you down."

Booked our plane tickets tonight. We will be coming down Feb 10-17. Hoping to identify where we will move specifically and a hospital for Heather on this trip. Hoping for a busy but very productive trip.

Glad to hear Shaun, good luck on your search! Supposed to be 80 here today:thumbsup:

Which part of Florida did you decide to visit? Jupiter area?

Yes, we have honed in on the Jupiter, Stuart/Palm City area. Leaning more towards the Stuart area as the Marina We've found that we really like is in Stuart and I'd like to be close to the boat. But we will see what we like when we get there!

Here's the website to the marina. It ha some great amnesties and floating docks which is important to us for ease of getting the dogs on and of the boat.
