Ripping up carpet and install Alure flooring in 80s era sundancer 300

The carpeting has been replaced with a nice Berber on our boat about 4 years ago and it still looks good but I love wood floors. I was looking on the net and found this about Allure floors, interesting read.

You might want to open all the boxes and check the odor before you put it down. The smell seems to be a hit or miss thing after a few days. It is a blog from 2009/08 don't know if the product has changed since then.

DK, I am using Sapelli red 63716. It looks like cherry, but has a much tighter grain. The teak is nice but it has a heavy grain, It also is quite a bit darker than my teak trim. However the Sapelli red matches spot on! And yes, I am going to tuck the flooring under the galley for the first row. It will also save a lot of trimming I hope.

I read that same thing online before making my decision. As you said, it was hit and miss on the odor, but Alure says this is no longer a problem. I hope not. that would really PMO if it stunk when I was done. This is a pant load of work.

Dancer,

Can you tell me how many SQ Feet you used on your Sundancer? My Weekender is still Shrink-Wrapped, or I'd go measure myself. But if I make a trip to Homedepot this weekend, I might consider picking some Allure up. I would imagine you would need a few extra SQ feet for the aft cabin, but I should be able to get a pretty good ballpark from your job.

Guy's I did my whole lower level with 2 allure products. Yes it smelled for a week or two and I put it over a concrete floor! I used a good underlayment, with padding. The reason I used the allure was twofold.
1) It's CHEAP!!!!!
2) I have a walk out slider in that room and the Dog's go in and out the Yard and the allure cleans up real easy!
Does it look like real wood.... NO! but you can't have everything:thumbsup:

DK, I measured it up this morning. The floor area including aft cabin floor will be 52 sqft. The dinete raised floor is 12 sqft and the stairs will take aprox. 6 sqft. So thats 70 sqft total. One carton of Alure covers 24 sqft. Three cartons should do it. I have allowed extra in all of my calculations. Price for a carton is $48.00 X 3 = $144.00 to do the job. How can you beat that. The pink carpet is all gone! Here is a shot. I'll put the rest in my album.

Looks good
How did you frame in the hatch. Does the flooring glue down on the hatch?

I don't have a hatch on the floor of my 300da, I didn't know some had one????

No hatch in my floor either.

I think pietro added some floor hatches when he redid his 390.

If you haven't replaced the water hose leading to your AC yet that runs across your steps, If you bend it, it usually disintegrates in your hands.
I guess I gotta start ripping out that lovely light green carpet out of this one now.

How's it coming, Dancer? Any new pictures with the floor down?
The weather here has me on hold. Today was only 43 degrees. The product rep. says the temp should be 68-70 degrees to do the install or the adhesive tabs won't bond right. I did finish building the new steps into the cabin (I made them a little deeper) and also made a removable floor filler for the aft cabin floor, so the new flooring will flow right into it. I also have to close in the forward bulkhead where the icemaker and central vac. was. (not reinstalling them.) Tomorrow if it warms up a little, I am going to roll a coat of gray gelcoat on the entire floor and stairs just to get a fresh clean surface. Ill post a couple of pics of the aft floor filler and stairs tomorrow morn. I think this flooring modification is really going to pull this old girl out of the 80s !

Thanks for the tip speakerdude, now is definitely the time to replace that A/C hose ! Its wide open.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. This is definitely on my list for next month (I wish I could crack the shrinkwrap sooner, but March usually has a few "tricks" up her sleeve in Cleveland. Going to wait till mid-April to play things safe!

Yea DK, I hear you on the shrink wrap. I;m dying to get mine off. My cockpit deck looks like a yard sale with all the crap on it. Tools, carpeting, cushions, icemaker, central vac, dinette table, all the cabinet doors, poopie tank, water heater......YIKES

DK, what is your avitar photo of ? Looks like either led cockpit of underwater lighting?

WOW, nice. I have leds under my platform facing the water, looks pretty cool, but not like those.

This thread has me thinking, instead of making a custom bullnose, I wonder if (for me anyway) it would be easier to make new stair treds and outer table shelf out of solid oak and route the edge and finish in stain/poly to match my flooring choice. I have lots of thick oak boards laying around gathering dust and seeing as how I'm not really a wood worker, perhaps just making new pieces out of oak would same me the jointery work. What do you guys think?
BTW I do have a table saw, band saw, router, planer, and jointer, just nowhere near where the boat is located so all trim/new step construction will need to be done at home and taken the three hours to the boat. Therefore there can't be too many cut and fit evolutions to the job or it will never get done.
