Retired!

Glad to hear you'll be in the parade. I'm checking with the commodore to make sure about that date/time for the meeting. If it's NOT what I put above I will let you know.

Congratulations! Enjoy!

Congrats!
I worked in a steel mill for 10 years and left in 2005 at 36 when an injury and ensuing surgery left me unable to work in the blue collar arena with heavy lifting. Got a small work comp settlement but blew through that and my 401k to live off of while finishing my degree. Graduated in 2010 with almost nothing in the bank so rebuilding now. Hoping to retire in 3 year or so at 55 but will be a full time day trader at that point. If that fails I'll be working until the day I die...lol

Greg, the meeting is Wednesday, Dec 1 at 6:30.

This will be the first year in about 20 years that we haven't participated. Don't forget that there is a party after the parade at the CIYC clubhouse. It's always fun and with good food.

Retirement is awesome and I have a feeling you will love it! I know you will keep busy! If not, you can help ME! LOL!! I see some additional boat trips next summer to Priest Lake, Lake Pend Oreille and other destinations! Can't wait to meet you out there!!

Congratulations! As an IBEW member, I am so happy for you!

my best friend in the IBEW had planned on retiring March 2022 at 58. I ran his pension numbers (defined benefit plan) and he decided to retire March of 2021 at 57.
He passed October 20, 2021. Take nothing for granted, there may not be a tomorrow, so glad he enjoyed his retirement for the 7+months he had. He was so happy!

joy it!
I'm sorry to hear that. That's the one thing that I have told my wife, we don't know how much time we have, so If we can afford to retire, why wait.

Unless I decide to run it out another year, I'll be Free come the end of March '22! As @Sundancer suggested, we'll have to get together up north. Y'all can help build my shop with all the free time you'll have. :D

Congratulations. I retired, or maybe semi retired at 56 and 3 years later, keeping busy, boating, scuba diving, enjoying life! Hope you have an amazing retirement for a very long time!

Congrats wyrman, I hope you enjoy your retirement,. I am sorry you are kind of being pushed to it, everyone likes to leave on their own terms. I am 54 and will not be retiring any time soon, my wife spends money almost as fast as I make it. Of course she spends it mostly on grandkids so I will give her a pass.

I had my last day of work yesterday. I get to meet with HR today to turn in my work badge, then I'm officially retired.
I've been a union electrician for 36 years, working the last 13 in maintenance on the Hanford site. It's home to the worlds first nuclear reactor where they made the plutonium to help end WW2.
I am 58 and was planning on retiring at 59 1/2, but my job is covered under the presidential mandate for federal workers, and I made the decision after meeting with a couple financial advisors that it's time to go enjoy life.
My wife is 3 years older than me and will be retiring at the end of December.
I'm pretty excited for this next phase in life, and hoping it's not a short phase. :)
Thats awesome! Congratulations!
I am on the same plan. 58 now and plan to early retire before my 60th BDay, probably around my 59th. Its up to me in terms of timing, which I call having "F-U capital" in our firm. Once you make that personal decision in your mind, its very liberating. My career is pretty time intensive with long long hours for about 8 months of the year. Its time to have some enjoyment with the hard earned $$. You can't take it with you and I am not gonna die to make anyone else rich. I love my kids, but they need to find their way on their own efforts and not handouts.

We have some fairly serious family health issues to sort out before I can truly do what we want to do, but I am really looking forward to taking work-life stresses out of the equation.

Was just told last night that my daughter-in-law (who is 5 months pregnant) is being forced to get the vaccine by her employer. She works for a major healthcare organization in this area and primarily works from home. She has no problem getting vaccinated but not while pregnant. Both of her parents and my son have all been vaccinated and she was planning to as soon as she had the baby. She went to 2 Dr's to try to get an exemption and both refused to sign it. I don't think they are in a position for her to quit her job so now this will be weighing on us for quite some time now.

Congratulations and welcome to the best club ever created. Remember one thing. Everyday is Saturday except for Sunday. And then its Saturday again. Enjoy every minute of it.

That is terrible.

Thank you so much everyone. Even though I was forced, I've been ready for a little while.
boatman37, that kind of stuff is going on everywhere, and it's so wrong. I've heard the health care professionals are being threatened with their licenses if they sign exemptions.
I wish her the best.

Thanks. I don't think she has any licenses. Her degree is in healthcare management so she does more administrative type work
