Restoring the Fresh Water System

You just have to sit back and laugh every now and then - It's the only way to keep your sanity.
It's amazing what you run into with a big project like that, I too was suprised by buried areas that trap and hold water and years of nasty smellin' muck.

In the end it's well worth the trouble - Best of Luck!

Nice work Tom,
The pictures are good too,
Is that your anchor space that you openened up?
I see the cover is fixed - where do you put your anchor?

Hi Tom,

Great job you are doing. I have a question for you. Before you started this project, did you have a leak from the fresh water fill cap. As you can see we have this wonderful leak everytime it rains and Sea Ray seems to think it is coming from the fill cap. My husband sealed all around the outside, but it still leaks. This is not going to be a fun job trying to get everything out to access the filler cap. As you can see from the pictures, the water starts at the bottom corner of the rail then gets soaked up and then runs down on the floor.

Hey Connie,

My boat had leaks EVERYWHERE! I started by pulling all the railing, deck fills and anything else attached to the top and resetting it using lots of 5200.

If the deck fill is your issue, then you will have to unscrew it, pull it, clean the surfaces and re-seal with 5200. I went as far as dipping each and every screw in 5200.

Once you get that sealed and it dries, then run water over it and see if you get your leak. If not your leak maybe coming in from somewhere else.

Ok, what is 5200 sealant and who is the mfg. I am hoping the weather stays nice here in Central NY so I can start working on this. I have to be the one to work on this because I am smaller then my husband and I can get into smaller places them him.

Tom,
Great job so far - is that your anchor box all closed up?

5200 is the sealant of choice when you plan on NEVER taking the parts apart EVER again.

Here is a link to 3M's marine adhesives and sealants:

I have to put the bulkhead back in which will be starboard. I haven't yet decided to re-install the pull down door so you have access to the anchor locker from the V-berth.

To deal with the holes in the bow pulpit, I installed a small access hatch so I can have a storage hole to throw junk from on deck.

Project completed.....well almost. Just have to do a leak check on fresh water tank system, then city water! I also have to run and hook up the engine lines to the hot water heater.

A friend of mine gave me a SS hot water heater. He couldn't figure out why he was not getting any hot water. Did a little trouble shooting and found the overheat sensor and thermostat sensor bad. Went on line and found the parts. Installed them and then I rigged the HW heater and tested it. Hot water!

I went to install my water pump and found that Shurflo makes you buy the hose attachments separately! :smt013

I called around and found what I needed at Ft. Lauderdale WM.

In NC we got 6" of snow and cold weather, so it will be a week or so before I can test the system. Once that is done, I can install the bulkhead in the V-berth and rode locker and start on headliner.

Moving along and starting to get excited..........

Just to update and close this thread out. Tested the system today. Had to wait because it was too cold.

Filled the tank and no leaks. The fresh water tank drain valve worked. Fired up the pump and got good pressure and filled the hot water tank. The pump is really quiet and 60 psi in pressure. This makes the Admiral happy as she likes pressure to wash her hair.

Tested the city connection and no leaks. Nice hot water. All I have left to do is run water lines from the port engine to the HW .

It was worth getting rid of the plastic braded hose and replacing it with Pex tubing!

This closes this thread!:smt038
