red or blue accent lighting?

Are the red or blue colored lights any less attractive to bugs than white? I don't particularly like yellow "bug" lights, but would like to add lights to our cockpit.

We have red lights and white lights in our hardtop. The white ones are great for reading a book under. With them on, we have lots of bugs to clean up in the morning on the windshield and decks around the cockpit. The red lights are great for hanging out at night with friends. They attract far fewer bugs than white. I have no experience with blue lights.

I have installed some blue LEDs on my deck and last night it looked good.

The Admiral and I were looking at interior lights to replace the old 80s style bulbs. Of course LEDs are the only way to go. There are lights that have 2 settings to them. One side is white, the other is red for night running. I was really looking hard at these.

Then we both looked at each other and the light bulb came on at the same time. We don't run at night because it is light outside 24 hours during the summer..........:wow:

Thanks, sbw1. Installing both is a good idea. We don't have an arch or hard top, so I need to figure out how to install lights to the bimini frame. The low-level cockpit lights are okay for general lighting, but lousy for reading or playing a game.

Nah....I'm running in 'sleeper' mode!!!! Kind of like black wall tires and hubcaps on a 440 Hemi.....

Ah!

There was never a 440 Hemi. The 440 was a wedge head and the Hemi displaced 426 cubic inches. It's not possible to swap Hemi heads to the 440 since everything about the blocks was different, including the bore spacing. Most racers called it the Elephant because the bore spacing was so big. Think it was around 4.8 inches. The piston stroke I think was the same as the RB (440) but pretty much everything else was different. Even the engine mounting brackets were differnent. Hemi cars had different, Hemi-only K frames.

BTW, Generation II Hemis have been available from Mopar Performance for a couple of years. The original 426 is available as well as larger 472 and 528 cid versions. Pretty sure the normally aspirated 528 dynos at over 600 hp. A friend has an unrestored '71 sublime green Cuda (383) that is just crying for one of these.

Best regards,
Frank

I just installed blue near the deck looks very nice also one in the cabin for mood lighting

hi everyone 1st time on here, putting leds on 2004 215we, red is usual color but searay is putting blue on now, can't decide, anyone have blue on their's and does it messup night vision?thanks!:smt100

US Navy use to use red in the combat information center but changed over to blue with no degradation to night vision. It seems the power brokers thought red was too "aggressive" and that blue was less aggressive thus people in charge would be less likely to use deadly force on a bad guy.

Go figure, who would a thought a WARSHIP would be considered aggressive??? Frekin bean counters...

As soon as they perfect the new lavendar LED lighting modules, they're changing color again.

my dentist has blue walls in his office....but then again, he grows marijuana in his spare time....

Conched out, now that it has been 2 years how do you like the Aperion lights? Are 2 in the arch enough? What did you do with the lights in the rear cockpit. What color do you like best while driving at night or at the dock? Thanks Rob
I just installed a pair of Aperion SDI Tri-light ( white, blue, red ) in my radar arch. Bought them from Apex Lighting www.yachtlights.com they fit the existing holes and only two wires. Just turn light off and on quickly to change color.

This thread reminded me of what we had to do on board all our Naval war ships... We use to use red in Combat Systems where we would track and send out our aircraft on enemy planes, ships, suns, etc. Some jerk got somebodies ear and did a study and found that red induces anger and that blue is a more soothing color. So we had to change all our night lights in CIC (Combat Information Center) to blue... Keep in mind we were a WAR ship and usually, we wanted to be in a state of anger as we hunted the enemy... LOL

[Dmartin, I asked Conched out this question but it was brought to my attention he conched out and hasn't posted in a while so I guess I can ask you. How do you like the Aperion lights? Are 2 in the arch enough? What did you do with the lights in the rear cockpit floor if you have them they are probably white and all go on at the same time). What color do you like best while driving at night or at the dock? Bugs attracted to one more than the other? Thanks Rob
QUOTE=dmartin155;462669]I put these in, each time you hit the switch they change color. All the lights sync to same color as long as they are on the same circuit.
