Question for the Garmin Autopilot Boys?

GMI 50 vs TD 50 ?

To my knowledge there isn't a GMI 50 and only a GHC 50, pilot head, and the TD 50, touch screen controller.

According the Garmin there isn't a GMN TD-50 and only BlueNet. This contradicts what @Irie308 has. So yes this is confusing.

Looking at your pic in previous post the instrument shown says GMI 50.
I've never seen or heard or one either.

The online installation manual for the TD 50 reveals a GMN connection and not Bluenet connection. So, what the heck is out there?

Can't find where that is posted by me, but if so, it's typo on my part.

But to your point, this excerpt is from the install manual. A complete over site on their part. These manuals did not show up until months after the device was available. It also states using a 9 pin cable and an adapter.

Garmin has completely dropped the ball here and the manuals are so incomplete that they are useless. I have found a few things wrong with them.

Dimensions are wrong based on the mounting instructions, it should be the same as the GHC 50.
PGN list is very incomplete just based on the screen shots listed.

So yeah, what is going on?

@Irie308 Dean I believe you need the BlueNet to GMN gateway and that may fix your issues, but that is just a guess.

Understand - I've always had issues with the Garmin manuals.
Here is the pic you posted - look at the P/N in the lower right corner - it says GMI 50 -

@Irie308 - It does look like Skybolt is correct on the Bluenet interface regardless of the documentation. However, quite possibly the TD 50 will not accept the third party software needed to be loaded to run their hardware like the GPSMAP devices will.

Holy crap, what a cluster. That's probably what they were going to call this instead of the TD-50. Amazing. Man they really dropped the ball on this release.

So I think Garmin got a bit ahead of themselves with what to do with the GHC and the TD 50. I think they’ve updated the hardware accordingly but not their manuals and marketing materials. Will get some more pics of my install but I can’t imagine needing a bluenet gateway to view third party gear. My current td50 sees my entire garmin network. I can control autopilot and radar as well. I think it’s most likely as we’ve found that lumitec did not update code for the td50 but we’ll see if there is a firmware update by lumitec to fix this as they said they would.

Here is a pic of my replacement td 50 which is the same as the one I purchased and also the same as my GHC 50.

Ah, didn't know the TD-50 saw the rest of the GMN, that changes things. So yeah it's in Lumitec's corner now.

I think I found a glitch in the matrix on the GHC 50. You can edit the screen if it’s part of a “station” and then edit a smartscreen option . I was able to add the menu bar below but you can do split screen, add chart or gauge options. This just shows that Garmin can easily update the software to make it more usable. Must have been a result of the January update. That being said it goes away after you restart.

I like how you have the tide chart on there. Didnt know you can add that. Can you add that to the Main chart screen as well.. Like a 8610 or 946

I think you can on the 34.00 software versions

@Irie308 Dean do you still have the TD-50 or is this part of your original setup?

I think Garmin has undergone some changes and they are not quite what they were a year ago. As you found out the TD-50 isn't quite what they say it is and documentation doesn't even scratch the surface.

Hopefully this is a bug you found in the GHC-50, not surviving a reboot, and will be resolved in the next update.

There must be a world, change that - Universe, of difference in the Garmin avionics line - no way would any of this occur with aircraft electronics.

Your not kidding, in the AV world I bet the FW doesn't change things as radically as with the marine line. Could you imagine having to search for changed settings at 5000 feet ...

I'm all in for whistles and bells but when those add-on's adversely impact the root function and user interface it reduces the user's confidence in the system. When Software development colludes with Marketing and on the sidelines Engineering's hair is on fire there are always negative consequences.
No doubt they are experimenting with AI on navigational decision making and what should be displayed..... Woe are the old salts.

Yes that’s my original ghc 50 at the helm and td 50 in the forward berth under the tv.
