Port Lucaya trip Do-over

I think 2 seperate trips are the way to go. That way if Ken can't make the August one it sounds like he would be good to go for Labor day weekend.
If the Abacos trip gets 2 long my wife won't have time to make this one. But DO NOT change anything because of this.
As Spock said the needs of the many far outweigh the needs of the few.
Are we still looking at Around the 6th of leaving the east coast? Also who's bringing who on their boats?

I have the same problem with my wife getting time off. I figure that I can always fly her out part way through but I'd rather she stay for the whole trip. Marsha has to come at least for part of the trip!

At this point there will be Kathy and I on my boat. I have laid it out there for the kids but they can't commit until we have exact dates. Speaking of which how about if we sandwich the trip between the first 2 weekends in August, perhaps depart Friday July 31 or Saturday August 1 and return on Sunday August 9. I would think Sean is not back to school at that point, Jack.

Let's get everyone's feedback

My issue is Marcia getting the time off. I talked with Ken today and I think we would rather just do the Lucaya thing as he has time constraints. I'll let him post as I don't want to speak for him.
Don't get me wrong I'd love to go to the Abacos but I think it requires a little more planning for me. Also if I go I'm going to want to spend some time there. Ray had mentioned a guy trip and I think the Abacos might be a good one for that.
I will go anywhere with you guys even if it means motoring off the side of the Earth. I just need time to plan it.

Jack - are you suggesting a trip to Lucaya in August and a trip to Lucaya in September? I have no problem with that, it is the journey, not the destination that counts. I would do a trip with the Flippy Floppy Armada anywhere, anytime especially if it means that Ken and his family can join us.

Let's get input from everyone on this...

Ken seemed concerned that we would be motoring too much going to the Abacos. I kinda agreed with him as I would rather be where we are going and have time to drink mudslides. When your motoring it's kinda hard to pass them from Rays boat to mine.
You would know better than I but Abacos seems more like a 1.5 to 2 week trip to do it right. If we hit Lucaya in Aug. I'd be up for Abacos in Sept. Or vice versa. Who will be going with you?

Hey do over guys,

I am trying to make arrangments to be in Florida from the 2nd to the 14th of August. There is a good chance that may happen.

As Jack said above, I would like to steer my two cents worth to just PL in August. None of us have been there and we would like some time to see the sites (and drink mudslides). Being that we would only have maybe three days there, I would like to add my vote to just PL and save September for the Abacos.

Let me know your thoughts. I hope to have my dates dialed in by the end of June.

Randy - We're still not sure if we're heading out tomorrow afternoon or 0 past dark Thursday. If we go tomorrow, we'll be on the hook inside the Gun Cay cut, then head to Nassau Thursday. If we go early Thursday, we'll probably stop at Chub Cay, then head to Nassau early Friday. All depends on a few things I'd like to get done around the house (like get beer and a few other provisions) before we leave. My buddy gets to the Atlantis around noon Friday, so the plan is to be there and settled by then. Either way, we're planning to spend a little time in Bimini on the way back sometime next week. Hope to see you there. By the way, Nick and Patrick and their friend Mike stopped by the house for a little while a few days ago. It was nice to see them and be sure to let them know they are welcome here any time.

You're right, an Abacos trip is better if it is 2 weeks long. There are allot of things to see and places to go.

Let's get our original Port Lucaya trip on the schedule and work on the other trips after that.

(just my humble opinion).

Man I am now MEGA pissed. Just read that the army corps are closing 2 of the lochs for maintenance until Sept. 3rd.
I need to buy a trailer for my boat. Geeez. Marathon to Miami here we come again. Gotta find someplace to dock it on the East coast once we get back from Lucaya.

Jack, I think it's a conspiracy at the highest levels with the Lake (Obama may be involved). How dare they do repair work when we need you to run through. But man would I like to see that trailer that could transport your boat!!!!!!!

As to flying into and out of the Abacos there are 2 airports; Treasure Cay toward the north end of the Abacos and Marsh Harbor in the center of the Abacos. It appears that there are a few flights a day and they all seem to go through Nassau.

Doing Port Lucaya alone is just fine with me...let's just do something!!!!!!!!!
I promise I'll load on mudslides. We just need to solidify the dates right away so plans can be made to request time off (ie. Kathy, Marsha, etc.).

Jack, I'll look for a slip for August for you if you'd like, just let me know.

That's the last straw.

Jack, you just have to move to the east coast. We need you to be here without this garbage of going around the keys or waiting for the locks. The Bahamas demands our attention.
 
I have been ranting about the c of e for years, but this is the worst yet. The New Press posted this article while we were in Boca Chita. They ARE shutting down the locks. Go figure. No water because they decided to drain it down the Caloosa making in impassable now there is water and the close the freakin locks.

I am still trying to make arrangements to go, but Heather will most likely stay behind because in Douglas county we only get two months of summer. She is back in school on the 9th.

For Jack & I, you can now add two days to each side. Randy you are correct, move to the east coast...... but we are good people on the west coast....

I'll through these dates out again. Leave morning of 6 Aug. East coast return 10 or 11 Aug. Marcia and my kids can make this no problem.
Ray our new scenario is to be at los oles marina wednesday night. I still would like to find a place to leave the boat until we finish our 2 week tour in Sept. Anyway we will just motor over with you if those dates are good.
