Port Lucaya trip Do-over

Hows August 6th thru 10th? I am just throwing those dates out there but I am totally flexible. I guess we could sudo plan and if the weather gets us just go the next weekend.
I think I will be talking to Mike today and I'll run it by him also. I will start preparing my liver.
Jack

Sorry Can't do August, but I can do Labor Day weekend or anytime the week before Labor Day or anytime the week after Labor Day.

Jack, I second that, I miss you guys. You up for a Key West run 4th of July. Remember, I made reservations when we were down there at A&B for 3 nights.

Ken

OK Chad......it was just a thought as I like "wimmen" also and I'm quite sure my son does as well. Let's not get the wrong idea here........

I just want to do a run to the Bahamas....whenever or where ever.

Ray

Ken,
Sorry can't make the Keys( I really would love to) but I gotta go up to Indy for bussiness. First time I've been there for 6 months and my people are starting to scream. Only so much you can do by cell.
Jack

Dudes,
I talked to Mike today and he showed interest in the Aug. 6th to 10th dates. I kinda like those as it's before my munchkin has to go back to school.
Ken we can't seem to hook up but I was serious about the Labor day trip also. So we WILL get to the Bahamas.
Jack

I'm fine with those dates in August. I talked with Jack today and speculated on the possibility of taking a few more days in August and going over to the Abacos and it will be lobster season yeehaw!

We can then go to Port Lucaya over Labor Day...oh yeah!

Anybody else have interest??

Sorry I haven't been able to provide feedback -- I was in Chicago this past week. Anyway, as Jack indicated, I think 6-10th of August works for us. I'll confirm with my calendar boss (Anya). An post trip extension for a little time in the Abacos is also pretty appealing.
It would be nice if we could be sure dates work for Ken too. Given it seems August is no good for him, we should be sure to schedule a follow-up trip. If we can't do two, then we should continue trying to find a date that works for all and make that the "primary dates".

Mike,

I really appreciate your concern. I am trying to make some changes, but as Jack knows, I run an adult day care. As cold as it sounds, one of them is gone this Friday morning. Each time I head down to Cape Coral, something gets screwed up.

I am hoping that once we get through Brian's wedding in late July, we can get some tickets and head down around the 5th or 6th of August. I just won't know until early July.

Anyone interested in a 4th of July Key West Trip, let me know.

Ken

Those dates work for us too. A trip to Abaco sounds great, we must go to Double Breasted Cay before going to Spanish, Green, Treasure, Marsh or other places.

OK so let's start to plan it, a few questions though......

How many days do we need to set aside for this trip?

I may be the only gasser in the group and my range is just over 100 miles?

1 day to double breasted say from Stuart and across the bank or 2 days with a stop in Grand Bahama somewhere? (We may have to check in at West End anyway so I could fill up there)

Sorry Randy but most of these are directed to you since you have done this trip before.

Ray

Somewhat new to the Forum and sea water boating but I might be able to make the Aug dates but won't know till mid July. Can make the Labor Day dates for sure. Was in Port Lucaya last month. Boat is in Hollywood. -Diversion

No problemo. Based on the posts, I thought we would go to Lucaya first, then on to DB, Then on to the main Abacos.

To give you an idea of distances, here are some facts....

From PL to Double Breasted is 67 miles (through the Lucayan Waterway). DB has no marina, docks or fuel.
From DB to Grand Cay is 5 miles (fuel, water, marina)
From DB to Spanish Cay is 51 miles
From DB to Green Turtle is 68 miles
From DB to Treasure is 76 miles
From DB to Marsh Harbor is 91 miles

We need to get together and look at the charts for a good understanding of this trip.

Hi Diversion and welcome to the board. You are welcome to join us and we look forward to meeting you. Keep us posted on your schedule and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Randy

I will more than likely be coming thru OKE if things stay on track. That means I will be leaving from Stuart so whatever works. I will have to look at the charts and get an idea of the waters.
I am with Ray what kind of time are we talking about? Marcia has an issue with the amount of time she can take off and was going to meet me in Stuart and ride over from there. It appears the Flippy Floppie Armada has sparked an interest in her riding on the boat. Those dates would have been leave AM the 6th, from Stuart, and return 10th or 11th.
Would we hit all these places or kinda of center around one of them?
I think when we get firmer dates Ken might be able to plan around them better.

Welcome Diversion

I am from Hollywood as well though I have the boat on the new river. There are a number of us who are local you should try to run into us some weekend.

Just as a suggestion why don't we leave on the 6th and return the 14th. That's 8 days. Is that enough time to see at least some of the Abacos Randy?

Ray

Just a thought....This almost seems like Port Lucaya and the Abacos could be two separate trips. One being a shorter trip as originally planned to PL. The other straight to the Abacos with the first stop at West End. Boats leaving Florida inlets could all meet up in West End and caravan across the bank from there. PL could be a 3-4 day trip and the Abacos maybe a week plus the extra weekend (meet in West End on a Fri or Sat and return the following Sat or Sun). If we combine the trips, I'm not sure a week is enough, especially if we spend 3-4 nights in PL -- we might have to shorten that part down to two.

I'd like to ask a few questions to the Armada now that we're taking about the Abacos....

  • which trip are we thinking about for the Abacos? I think I read that Ken can't go anywhere in August?
  • since we're doing 2 trips to the islands this summer, should we skip Port Lucaya on the Abaco trip and head straight to the Abacos? Lucaya is not really on the way, it is a straighter shot to go to West End, then around Mangrove Cay over to Abaco. This would give us more time in the Abacos also.
  • Let's decide on the number of days we want to spend so we can decide on the places we want to visit.
  • it's 60 miles from WPB to West End, then another 60 miles to Double Breasted. Ray will need to fuel up in WE.
  • It's a long trip from WE to the first marina in the Abacos (Spanish Cay), almost 100 miles.
everyones input is requested.

Randy

I like Mike's idea of covering 2 weekends.

I also think that Port Lucaya and the Abacos should be 2 seperate trips, perhaps leave PL for Labor Day. West End would then appear to be the best choice for checking in, and in my case fueling up as well.

The question I have is do we try to make Double Breasted on the first day? Also, since Jack will be coming out of Stuart can he go straight to Double Breasted (116 miles I believe) and then check in at our first stop in the Abacos?

Gonna be a cool trip!
