Plan on buying Polk Momo's to replace stock Clarion speakers...

Do the amp screws protrude into the storage under the front seat? I have been considering using some King starboard so that I can screw the amp and distribution blocks into itand only have to run a few screws into the boat but the uneven surface in that compartment doesn't lend itself well to that and it seems most people aren' t concerned. For the tower I have been thinking of either using the new JL towers that are just coming out(haven't seen pricing yet)., the kicker pods that have 2- 6.5" and a horn tweeter in each or the wet sounds pro60 or 80. I am just looking to get the sound out of the boat for when we are floating out back. I have really been frustrated by what amp package to put in the boat. Right now I just have a JL A4300 that is driving the cabin speakers parrallel at 55 watts per channel and the sub bridged on the other two channels at 220W. I think this is probably pushing the amp. I would like to get a dedicated amp for the sub then run the mains off the existing amp at 70x4 but then have to add another amp when I get the towers. I just hate the thought of 3 amps up there and all that power consumption. I did run 4-gauge cable last week so I think I will be OK if that is where I finally end up.

That's funny because I'm at the same place. I too want to have a dedicated amp for my sub and with replacing the cabin speakers, the sub and the 4 tower speakers it looks like I may have to go with three amps as well. One of the 4 channels on my factory amp is bad so more then likely I will use it for the sub.
Oh well there's plenty of room in there that's for sure.

I bought the JL Audio 7.7's with tweets and Powered them with a Rockford 200watt amp and I can only turn it up to about 1/3 volume before my wife tells me to turn it down. BTW they look stock

Skuza...great looking!!! Did you paint your grills? Did you post where you purchased your speakers? Some of the MOMO's for sale I have seen have a grey colored grill.

Mrsrobinson-The speakers fit in one of the factory holes. The other three (the one behind the cabin door and the two in the sides of the arch) had to be opened up a bit with a sanding drum. The holes were in fact different also. Not a hard mod and you could still install factory speakers after if you ever decide to.

Bottom line- I painted the speaker grills. They come silver and after someone mentioning painting earlier in this thread I decided to do ours to give it more of a factory look. I used automotive paint and matched them pretty darn close. I taped off the Polk lable on the grille and then cleared over everything after I applied the white basecoat. Look great and I'm glad I did it.

ps I did run into a problem when I applied the basecoat as it reacted with the existing paint on the grilles and wrinkled. I had to sandblast them removing the original finish and start all over. This was only a problem on the 6.5" grilles as they had a different paint than on the sub grill. Still worth it though!

polk momos vs JLAudio or do i just need a better amp

wondering if its my clarion/ panasonic amp that is holding me back from a rocking system.

i have 2 sets fo polk momo and the 10 inch sub tied to the factory clarion amp below
