PirateLady - why so grumpy all of a sudden :-)

And where does one buy this stuff?

Small private airports usually will let you pump it yourself. They tend to not move much and will welcome the purchase. Mine is 15min from me by the Bay Bridge. He loves that I buy ~60gal a season from him.

Honestly don’t mean to whine. Just feeling beat down. Again I know, first world problems. Allow me to repost what I sent to a buddy. Sure he won’t mind, maybe y’all can relate…
I now got a 2nd pos that I can’t trust to get me home when I go out. How many of these pos do I need to buy? I’ve already had a Chinese motor, a “reputable” Suzuki. What’s next? A Mercury that’s really a Tohatsu that has one sketchy dealer around here? A Honda 2.3 air cooled weed wacker. Or a wait a year for a Yamaha that weights so much I need a chiropractor and a hernia doctor to lift it?
You may want to consider a early 2000s 3.3 Mercury 2 stroke or older 90s 4.0 Mercies 2 stroke. I have both second hand motors and they start every time by the 3rd pull. Oh yeah, and they smoke very little, only at start up. You can lay the down any way you want. Good Luck

Just add a little Marvel Mystery oil to your gas can and it will eliminate a lot of the gunked up carb problems. It's an old product that has been rather forgotten and pretty much passed by these days. It's good for so many things from your oil can to your crankcase to your gas tank. A bonus is it smells really good. I'm thinking about trying it on my pancakes.

You need to check all the valves that are breaking pushrods. Likely there is some binding going on.
Thanks, I have a very good diesel mechanic. He told me last time if it happens again that the lifters need replaced. They're hydraulic, and sometimes they don't release all the way leading to the valve hitting the piston.
Apparently it's a thing on some of the 7.3's.

Sky, don’t know by you but the 6 marina gas docks on Middle River are all ethanol free. Here’s where I get my gas…

Nope, by me it's all 10% ethanol. Glad I use Diesel, I think, it's back up to $6/gal. But my dinghy still gets LL100 @ $7/gal. :D

100 LL is 100 Octane Low Lead pure gas
used in airplanes. No ethanol. It has a very distinctive smell when burned in a motor.
Thanks, @Steve S, that stuff sounds expensive, $$$$…. I’m absolutely SURE I’d love the odiferous bliss if I could afford to burn it!! LOL.

I use that in all of my two stroke gas yard equipment. Best stuff ever. No need to winterize anything and my leaf blower always starts right up!
Me too ... even in the 22 hp tractor. I would use it in the skiff but I use way too much

I use the LL100 in my lawn tractor. It's also a 22hp v-engine. In the warmer weather I use regular gas but when fall comes around it's back to the Avo fuel.

@Pirate Lady, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. This is a sucky time of year and too easy to get the Winter Blues.

I don't know what's different about avgas, but it has a very distinct odor whether from the tail pipe or straight from the tap. Either way, in our small engines, it's well worth the trouble. Back in the day, we also had 100/130 (dark green) and, my personal favorite, 115/145 (purple)! It was used in big radials and V12's from the WWII era.

:eek::eek:…. Holy crap?….. why? I have a ton of stihl stuff and my son ran a landscaping business with a ton of Stihl stuff. We always used the Stihl oil and mixed it ourselves and not their premium oil…..never a problem for years. I would not pay that insane premium

Sorry, didn't look at the price in the link when I posted. It's much cheaper at my local Stihl store.
