PirateLady - why so grumpy all of a sudden :-)

... That new Suzuki I recently bought for the zodiac. Bought home for winter recently, went to flush it, refuses to start, not a sputter, pull cord and nothing. ...

Just to make make you feel better. I bought a new Yamaha 5hp. Put fuel in ran it for a day or two. Let sit a few weeks and went to use it again and nothing. Had to clean carb out. Great worked fine, now in spring wouldn't start, did it all over again. ...

Now I only run LL100 in it and it loves me again :)

Avgas? Isn't that both expensive and overkill?

Yes and yes. Also no stabilizer and the engine always starts. I run that stuff in all of my yard equip as well. Don't have to worry if things are going to start or not. The airport station is closer then a spot that has no ethanol gas. All of the marine gas has ethanol in it now. Sucks.

I would rather spend more to get reliability then have to rebuild a carb in my cockpit a little hung over because my dog has to get to the beach. Can't put a price on everything just working. JMO anyway.

Honestly don’t mean to whine. Just feeling beat down. Again I know, first world problems. Allow me to repost what I sent to a buddy. Sure he won’t mind, maybe y’all can relate…
I now got a 2nd pos that I can’t trust to get me home when I go out. How many of these pos do I need to buy? I’ve already had a Chinese motor, a “reputable” Suzuki. What’s next? A Mercury that’s really a Tohatsu that has one sketchy dealer around here? A Honda 2.3 air cooled weed wacker. Or a wait a year for a Yamaha that weights so much I need a chiropractor and a hernia doctor to lift it?

Get it working and run LL100 in it. You will not regret it. Best thing I ever did. But don't feel alone in this. I took a few vacation trips this year and noticed a lot of dinghies with their engine bonnet's off.

Don't feel bad Pirate Lady. I have a 7.3 powerstroke that's been breaking rocker arms and push rods.
I took it to my mechanic and since it's the third time happening, I get to pay him to pull the engine and replace all the lifters. Apparently it's a problem with the 7.3's.
This is costing me a few boat bucks.

Avgas. 100LL. Like manna from heaven to your engine. That, and it smells better than any auto pump gas ever did.

I don’t have a 100 ton Master USCG License either, but apparently I’d qualify easily with how little I know….. what the hail is LL100?

here is a shot of lots of people with their new boating stuff they just bought:

100 LL is 100 Octane Low Lead pure gas
used in airplanes. No ethanol. It has a very distinctive smell when burned in a motor.

Yeah, it's aviation gas, I know. So I have to go to an airport to buy it? If yes then I had no idea I could go to an airport to purchase gas, thus, my question.

I don't think you will be successful at places like LAX, JFK or ORD... but find a small local airport and go talk to the FBO (Fixed Base Operator) and they may set you up.
And be prepared for sticker shock. In Aurora IL, 100LL is going for $6.89 a gallon.

I don't know why but I have been lucky with old gas and the generator, lawn mower and such. I literally just refilled my 5 gallon tank for the lawn mower, it was probably 3+ years old. It always starts on the first pull. Same with the generator, though I have had to drain the carburetor before, first pull though it starts.

The outboard for my last dinghy though, different story.

I will only use R90 in all my gas engines except my daily drivers. Boats (except The Office), side by sidss, lawnmowers, chainsaws, muscle cars-everything.

Learned my lesson the hard way.
