Boat Info
2004 - 220 Sundeck
Engines
5.0L w/Bravo 3 Drive
1. 176BR - I like it. Molded deck, clean look. Easy to maintain after a day in the sun and water. Bullet Proof 3.0L motor. Great Starter boat. Could use a little more storage. 9/10

2. 185BR - Nice Colors, good looking interior - Should have had full swim platform. Short platform makes boat look weird. 6/10

3. 195 Sport - Again nice colors - Seats - no arm rests - short platform again a issue. 6/10

4. 200 Sundeck - Entrance to the Sundeck line - Beautiful little boat, great for a couple. Not enough storage for more people or lots of water sports stuff. New Star Trek Chairs - Yuck! 7/10

5. 205 Sport - With out the strange swim platform attached to this boat it really looks nice. Clean lines and lots of color. The Tower is a great addition. The Star Trek chairs actually look good in this one. (No I still don't like them). 7/10

6. 210 Select - A little Wow factor going on here. Still with the Star Trek Captain's chairs. The flip up lounge seat is a really cool feature for kicking back along the beach and I do like the high tech dash with GPS in the center. The sharp edges give it a retro look and if your into that it's a 9/10 factor.

7. 220 Select - The 1st and most notable item was they left the seats alone. Great going! Hard to mess too much with a great set up. Great Choice of colors and options. Very classy dash and interior with plenty of storage and 3 layout options. The 220 ranks 10/10.

8. 220 Sundeck - The addition of the stainless trim in the cup holders, lockable stowage, add to a already great boat. Darn shame it was all ruined by putting the Star Trek Captains chairs in place. 7/10.

9. 240 Sundeck - One of Sea Rays most prolific boats for good reason. Great looks, nice graphics, tons of storage. Down side is base motor should be 300hp 350 Mag. While the 5.0L is adequate to push this boat the extra 40hp would go a long way to adding spunk to the boat. And again those Star Trek Chairs. :smt009 Dash has been updated and has the cool factor.

10. 250 Select EX - Very hot sport boat. This bow rider is over loaded on accessories. Bow anchor and & roller, Spot light. Refridgerator. High end dash and no GPS? I realize there is only so much space on the dash, but put that much effort into the tech look and leave out the GPS? The wake board tower is mounted on the windshield frame. Saw this same application at Destin a couple of years back. Makes the boat look very sleek. 8/10

11. 260 Sundeck - Newest Addition to the Sundeck line nd possiblley the replacement for the 240 Model. Squared off hard lines have people wondering about this one. Blunted bow, missing port hole, Star Trek chairs all have everyone scratching their heads. Along with 15k over the 240SD in price how well is this one going to sell?

12. 270 Select EX - Larger verson of the 250 with radar arch. Room in the dash for the GPS. Rode this boat at when it first came out. With a 496 this boat kicks butt. 10/10.

13. 270 Sundeck - Sea Ray is intent on screwing up their Sundeck line of boats with the addition of the Star Trek seats. My last look at the 270SD did not have this seat, but now it is there. With a 496 power plant this is a family go fast boat. Over 50mph, solid in rough water and just great to look at, this is a boat that can do many things. Bring many friends for crusing or water sports there is room for a crowd. 7/10. (It was going to get a 10/10).

14. 290 Select EX - The grand daddy big boy. You want a jumbo bow rider, here you go. Twin engine, speed over 50mph and all the creature comforts. My personal favorite is the Captain's bench with curved lounge and refreshment center behind the Captain's chair. Ton's and tons of storage space. Add the Sport Arch for looks and you can strut your stuff. 9/10

More to come - so keep watching for my open unbiased opinion of the current offering of our beloved Sea Ray product line.

I doubt that a bunch of us Sea Ray folks can be unbiased anyway Richard. Just the same I am looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the Sport boats.

:smt017 Larger swim platform :smt017 Any larger and it would look weird :smt009 The only thing I can think that you are talking about is the platform that is part of the hull (not the extended) which if it were bigger would make the inside of the boat smaller.

Did you really think I was going to let you rate my boat a 6 without a rebuttal. :smt021

Wesley,

I thought Stihlbolts was being quite generous giving the 185 a 6/10 rating. Afterall it's my understanding that this boat cannot be used in saltwater  .

:smt043 you actually got an out loud laugh out of me on that one.

Ofcoure, I am kidding. That should just about do it for Mr. Rich's one and only no nonsense thread.

Ok Wesley are we rating the girl or the boat in you picture. :smt043  On second thought was there a boat in your picture
I know, I know back on Topic. :smt021
Ok Richard you can get your serious no nonsense thread back on topic now

Ah....the photographer and marketing....if ever the two should know what the other is doing...the world would be a perfect place. :smt043

Ok .... bring down the 250 SLX down a notch ............ the port a potty door doesn't swing open as much as the 270 SLX and almost makes the passenger get out of the chair anytime someone needs to go!!

Of course if they are going 10-200, then they may want to move anyway!!!

MDX,

I noticed the same thing. In fact, if I remember correctly, you have to rotate the seat 45 degrees in order to fully open the door, between the seat/door and then step down into the head. I personally prefer the 270 as it has a deeper cockpit and taller windshield. I do not prefer the extra $$$. You also have better access to the head. SR has done a great job on both boats with the center walk thru. I really like the fact that the center section of the sunpad is hinged and folds under the main section of the sunpad.

What?? No Review of the 290 SLX?? Where do I fit in? There's a message board for Sport Boats LESS then 29ft and there's one for Cruisers...I feel like the ugly step-child..... I agree about the 250 SLX "head" passenger has to get out of the seat to open the door. Also, the seat doesn't spin all the way around. Too bad cuz it's a great looking boat, same as the 270 SLX. Really wish they'd make the fiberglass/aluminum arch optional on many other boats.

I ain't finished yet! :smt021 Been working long hours, just got back off the road right now. It's beer way past 5 time and somewhere in there had better be some hot wings. I will try and get the review done by the end of the month. So hold on to your britches till then. :smt024
