How to delete the old breather pipe?
I suspect it doesn't just feed back the way it goes in and I would need to take the coolant tank out and the heat exchanger (that's not happening).

Any ideas?

The crancase vent pipe on the older AirSeps was just sawed off and removed from the boat. The older AirSeps came with a fitting that was just inserted into the corregated black vent hose and secured with a hose clamp. Since the black corregared hose carries crancase fumes and some oil vapor it is important that your installation run down hill from the top of the engine to where it attaches to the bottom of the AirSep housing.

The Walker AirSeps do substantially reduce the high pitched turbo whine (Squeal!). We bought our 450DA in October so there wasn't much boating left in the year but we had to run the boat. We have always had a pair of Boston Terriers(Terrors!) and they go everywhere we go. The turbos on the 3116 begin to produce boost at about 1400. The first day on the boat was a Saturday in mid-October and in our area most people are deer huntung or watching SEC football on the weekend, not boating, so there was very little traffic. As soon a we left the no wake zone I slowly accelerated to get the boat on plane and at 1420 rpm, both dogs bailed off the back seat and headed to the fwd stateroom. My wife was sitting beside me on the fwd seat and I could not hear her telling me to open the cabin door for the dogs. They were as far forward on the master bed as they could get to escape the turbo squeal. We slowed to about 1200 rpm for the rest of the day and the dogs resumed their position curled up on the aft cockpit seat cockpit.

I ordered a pair of Airseps the next day Walker was open and installed them the next weekend. The noise reduction was dramatic!………we could speak to each other on the front seat in a normal speaking voice …..the front seat on a 450DA is directly above the twin 3116's. The effect on the pups was even more noticeable………pre AirSep, they jumped up and ran to the cabin to escape the turbo racket; post AirSep, the engines had no effect on them at all, in fact, they usually just slept until we anchored , or took a break for lunch.

Controlling the crankcase fumes or oil leaks from the factory vent system was never an issue for us because our 450DA had 50 hours on her when we bought her and we never had oil leaks in the 17 years we ran her.

I’m really impressed with these Walker AirSeps! First trip out with them today and there is significant noise reduction as Frank says. Also engine temp is reduced by about 5 degrees and not a single drip of oil - now that the open blowby breather is deleted!

Finally got a good weight on her. Full fuel and water, 32,000 lbs. She has fwd and aft thrusters, LVP flooring throughout, many tools and spares. Despite all the weight, she gets incredible mileage for her size.

BEST BOAT EVER !!!

Hello all - quick question: Has anyone removed the bolsters around the forward cabin? I can't seem to spot how it's held in place and I'd like to recover them

Hello Downeast, i am not sure what you are thinking about. But if it is the headboard around the bed in the front cabin, i removed mine last year and they were screwed down from the top.

Thank you very much! I never would have found it. Had to pull the fabric away to locate the screws.

Presently I have no functioning high water alarm.

High water bilge pump does work.

LED systems monitor sends out continuous alarm when connected.

As a temporary fix I'm simply going to wire in one of these:

Amazon.com: Cylewet 5Pcs SFM-27 DC 3-24V Electronic Buzzer Alarm Sounder Continuous Sound Beep (Pack of 5) CYT1083 : Electronics

until I can get the problem sorted out.

Perhaps a study of the Systems Monitor wiring diagram will show me where to make the connection.

Clamps can fail, aged hoses can blow and things can and do happen while tied up at the dock, or while underway.

Imagine how fast a boat would fill with water if an HVAC raw water hose failed, allowing that pump to fill the bilge.....

Anyway, that's my quick fix of the week before I do a complete engine room cleanup and then tear out all the coolers for service and replace all the 25 year old hoses . . .

Hi RWS. I have a 1996 450 in which the system monitor failed as well. Searched for months and never found a replacement. Feel confident I can manage engine mechanicals via dash, but don't have a high water alarm. How did you wire these into your system?

no more factory systems monitors. And even if you had one, how reliable could it be?

I LOVE AND ADMIRE what Tom Mott and others have created with the MARETRON SYSTEMS MONITOR, however all that is way above my intellect, guess I'm too old school.

The short answer to the wiring question is: to use the wiring diagram and locate the <EDITED> SYSTEMS MONITOR TERMINAL MODULE located on the port side of the forward engine room bulkhead - just above and to the port side of the port waste tank, adjacent to the bulkhead mounted solenoid.

Every wire you'll need is in there and you can use the wiring diagram in the book.

I've attached the blown up version as it applies to that connection.

I used a labelmaker and a wire terminal block to make my connections.

You can then set up a bilge pump light and an emergency bilge pump(s) light AND noisemaker.

Or do what I did and add a digital bilge pump counter - - a GREAT WAY to know if you have a small leak going on.

When I'm away from the boat, I focus the SIMPLISAFE camera on that.

Great way to know she's OK or if I need to call my buddy to go and check the boat.

Peace of mind and CHEAP INSURANCE!!

PDF file is attached.

Which 450 did you get?

Thanks for the information. Similar to you I have the 450DA Sundancer with galley to port. However, I have CAT 3116 engines. Have had the boat for 10 years now. Absolutely love it.

Hi, I haven't posted for awhile but wanted to share some of the latest upgrades to my 95'. New EVA foam flooring is in and upholstery going in the cockpit area now. I went with Sunbrella 4 way stretch material in "Toast" and off white, diamond stitch in the backrests. Aft lounge is done and helm is in production. Couldn't be happier with it. By the way I have the .dxf "CAD file" template for the cockpit flooring for our boats and an overseas EVA foam manufacturer if anyone is interested.

JEALOUS AM I

But still afraid to do EVA here in Florida.

If I had a covered slip, YES.

Just afraid that once applied, I'd be married to it and don't want to be replacing it every 5 years.....

Maybe today's products are better???

BEST !
