Official 390 E.C. Thread

I know Stock on mine are 19 by 18

last winter had them redone and they added a cup

with clean bottom new tabs and props done i hit 29mph at 4100 rpm

rather than shrink wrap for the winter - i was looking at a mooring cover for the winter - anyone found a vendor that sells one for the 390 EC?

Genco Marine in Toronto made my winter cover 1800-361-2890
If you are looking for a Mooring cover , I have the templates to fabricate one from Sunbrella or whatever material you want .
Unless you are keeping the boat in a covered facility I would not recommend just a mooring cover for outdoor winter storage .

Has anyone purchased a camper canopy for a 89 390? Been searching but had no luck. If so can you pass on from where and price.

i may hit you up for the templates! they are coming down next week to measure - this may save them some time

So I looked at another 390 a couple weeks ago, this time an '87 with diesels in Freeport NY. Yet another rot box. Pics on yachtworld must have been 10 years old because it didn't even look like the same boat. I'm starting to think the only good 390's are owned by the members here. Sorry guys, just venting while thinking about the winterizing I have to do on the 250 that I was hoping to have a for sale sign on it by now after finding a nice 390.

oops, I almost forgot.

don't waste your time. Yes Saverio, I'm talking to you.

Looks a lot like my "Rot Box" before I restored it. I seriously doubt you will find one in pristine condition unless it has been kept inside a shed for the last 25 years. Sea Ray did too many stupid things that allowed the boat to leak and subsequently rot. After 25 years the diesels will have to be removed and worked on. No access to very important stuff. I can almost guarantee the stringers will be rotted if there is any water around the water tank.

the water tank had been repaired, but the damage was already done and the stringers were mush. It's a shame because the engines were supposedly rebuilt with only 150 hours on them. But between the stringer rot, the soft spots in the deck, the creaky bulged floors with blown apart bulkheads, and the overall lousy appearance, it was a no-go. At least this one was on my way home from a job and not an 11 hour round-trip waste of time.

I'll keep that in mind for next time. I do a bit of work in suffolk county that takes me up there every month or two. The last time I was up there, it was very last-minute and I tried but failed to set up showings of some 390's on the north side of the island. Apparently NY brokers aren't real big on answering emails.

It looks really nice. What can you tell us about the fridge?

Saverio

It is a Vitrifrigo (Italian) I saw it on Pietro's boat. He has black, I opted for stainless. Has a freezer that really freezes stuff. Got it from Defender:

Because it fits so tightly there is no air circulation behind it so I cut a hole in to the space behind the backsplash and added a 12v fan that is powered by the fan circuit on the frige. This evacuates the hot air along the hull behind the cabinets. Works very well in 90 deg ambient when the boat is closed up. Otherwise the frige would overheat and cook. Another really BAD design feature by Sea Ray. I added a 120v fan to the ice maker seat cabinet in the cockpit too.

I just looked through most of your rebuild again. You gotta be proud of your work. You have a boat that you'll be able to pass on to the next generation!

Off Topic question

Any information on replacing forward deck hatch seals on my 1988 EC 390 would be greatly appreciated.
Taylor made said they do not make original seal with lip any longer.

Has anybody used D shaped seal with success on these older hatches?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Ken

Took our 390 to Catalina Island for the first time on Saturday and everything went extremely well. It was a beautiful 74 degree day with small 1 ft swells every 15 seconds; the pacific looked like a lake! Made it a quick two hour cruise at 19 kts there and 22.5 kts back. I can't wait to go back for a weekender now that I've done it and learned how the Catalina mooring ball setup works.

VERY jealous!
What RPM were you running at what speed? Just curious...

I'm not really sure... Our RPM gauges are somewhat non-functional (they work only sporadically and it seems at certain RPMs). We were about 3/4 throttle, maybe a little more. Probably around the 3k range is my guess but it's just that.

Edit to note that those gauges are why I was crawling around a few months ago looking to see if I could find the sending units. Never did locate them :/
